The League of Gentlewomen Witches
The League of Gentlewomen Witches | India Holton
As much fun as the English language will permit.New York Times Book Review on The Wisteria Society of Lady Scoundrels Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the teahouse. . . . Miss Charlotte Pettifer belongs to a secret league of women skilled in the subtle arts. That is to sayalthough it must never be saidwitchcraft. The League of Gentlewomen Witches strives to improve the world in small ways. Using magic, they tidy, correct, and manipulate according to their notions of what is proper, entirely unlike those reprobates in the Wisteria Society. When the long lost amulet of Black Beryl is discovered, it is up to Charlotte, as the future leader of the League, to make sure the powerful talisman does not fall into the wrong hands. Therefore, it is most unfortunate when she crosses paths with Alex ORiley, a pirate who is no Mr. Darcy. With all the world scrambling after the amulet, Alex and Charlotte join forces to steal it together. If only they could keep their pickpocketing hands to themselves! If Alexs not careful, he might just steal something elsesuch as Charlottes heart.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4.5/5)

I adored the first book in this series, and this one is a solid second. I didn‘t enjoy Charlotte‘s and Alex‘s relationship as much as I did Ned‘s and Cecelia‘s, however I still really enjoyed the story and its humor.

Day 5 of the 12 Days of Christmas. In May, I read 2 favorites of the year, the tagged and Hamnet. I‘ll go with this as the best of the month because it‘s funny even during turbulence on an airplane. #12booksof2022 @Andrew65

Andrew65 Sounds brilliant. Love the cover. 1y

The humour was too much. It wasn't funny anymore.

More madcap adventures with Jane Austen references this time. Not on theme but excellent for word search points. 4386 points #scarathlon #teammonstermash #witchathon

I didn't enjoy this one quite as much as the first book. It took me a long while to warm up to Charlotte, who is, frankly, a crank, but I loved Alex and Charlotte grew on me eventually. This book has a lot more sexy times than book one, and combined with the plot dragging a bit in the middle meant that parts of this book felt a little more slog-y. There were also times that the zany absurdity that was fun in the first book felt a little forced ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) here. (Here's your random parallel for the day - it reminded me of the scene in the movie Groundhog Day where the first walk in the snow is magical and perfect, but then when he tries to recreate it it just feels clunky and awkward. This wasn't quite that bad, but almost.)

I did still enjoy this one and will pick up the third book when it appears, but this is definitely a softer pick for me than Wisteria Society.

Tera66 I love this cover! 2y
TheAromaofBooks @Tera66 - Right?? Both this one and Wisteria Society have fabulous covers. 2y

If you ignore the books piled to the right, which may or may not be (part of) July's TBR already lurking nearby, I've actually made good windowsill progress!! My #weeklyforecast is to finish the tagged (not pictured) (only a few chapters left), then my only “have to“ book is The Color of Dragons for #LMPBC. After that I'll see how many random draw books I can fit in before that new pile gets added in on Friday!!

@Cinfhen

Cinfhen Yesssss, you REALLY have made awesome progress 🥳🥳🥳 2y

The #20in4 Readathon starts tomorrow!! Anyone can join, just set your own goals and go for it!!

I'm aiming for 1000pgs over the course of 4 days, and will probably be starting with the tagged book as I should finish my reread of the first book in the series today (it's just as ridiculously fun the second time around). Thanks for hosting @Andrew65 !!!

Andrew65 Good luck 😊👍 2y

This might be an #unpopularopinion but I was kind of exhausted by this book. I skimmed the last 20% and found it very repetitive.

I‘ll give the next one a try, but I definitely liked the first book a lot better.

Another book that I saved for vacation. I don‘t know if this series will continue, but I hope it does. I laughed often during this one, between the banter and the ridiculous situations. The story encompasses so many genres—romance, adventure, comedy, fantasy.

TheAromaofBooks This one is on my shelf!! I want to reread the first book before I delve into this one - it was SO much fun! 2y
Scochrane26 @TheAromaofBooks I let a friend borrow the first one since she was reading the 2nd. I love both! 2y

what does India put in these books? why are they so good?? all your fave characters back from the first one but this time we have a witch and a pirate who should hate each other but it‘s not just the pickpocketing that‘s preventing them from keeping their hands to themselves. I just love everything about these books and characters. Charlotte is great. Alex is great. Ned and Cecilia are adorable. I will read this series for as long as it goes on

This book is the best use of the enemies to lovers trope I've read in years. So much fun and just pure joy. I liked this one even more than the first.

#WeeklyForecast - April is fast approaching, which means a new pile of books to add to the windowsill!! I am going to see how many of these I can knock off this week. The exciting news is that I have completed all of my January challenge books and only have one February challenge book left on the shelf (Ocean of Storms for #22booksin22). The rest are March challenges, series reads, newly published books from the library (like the tagged), plus I⬇️

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) like to keep a couple of books from my not-challenge TBR in the mix of potential reads. All that to say - the crazy number of challenges I'm doing this year actually does seem to be helping me knock books off the TBR instead of making feel super behind LOL My main problem right now is that I feel like I have too many series on the go, so I am going to try to wrap up a couple of the shorter ones before starting Cinder or Stay With Me ⬇ 2y
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) which are both the first books in series. Next week all the shiny new April books will be in the mix, too, and instead of using my random pick method, I'm going to try to follow the trail of #ThingsInCommon which could get exciting!! @Cinfhen @Clwojick 2y

Clwojick Yay! #TheYearofALLtheReadingChallenges! Hahahahah! I‘m honestly shocked that I haven‘t felt overwhelmed either with all of my (66) reading challenges…(yet). I‘m just reading a lot and having a blast! It‘s actually helping me keep my momentum up since I feel so productive whenever I check off a bunch of prompts! ☺️ Cant wait to see where April takes us! (edited) 2y
TheAromaofBooks @Clwojick - It really is helping me, like I feel sooo satisfied checking stuff off, and it's genuinely helping me focus on getting a lot of my own unread books off the shelves, which is fantastic! 2y
Clwojick Agreed! I actually wrote out every single unread physical book I own, as well as all my NetGalley audios and chirp audios, which is motivating me to read more of those as opposed to getting distracted by all the new shiny things that pop up on Scribd and Cloud. Im doing better than usual anyways. There‘s definitely still some distraction happening 🤣🤣 2y

I absolutely loved this book as much as the first one. I loved that all the lady pirates were back in this book and that our MC Charlotte was just as badass as our first heroine but with more ✨magic✨

I adored this book. It is 2nd in the Dangerous Damsels series. The 1st book was fun and funny, but this one was just lovely and absurd. It's historical romance with a slight paranormal bent. The main characters are witches and pirates who sail flying houses instead of ships. I liked this one more because there was more focus on the romance and I loved the two main characters. I really hope she continues the series. Out 3/15.

Return to India Holton‘s magical Victorian England full of flying battlehouses and dangerously debonair pirates! This time, meet the pirates‘ mortal enemy—witches. When the British Museum displays a long lost amulet from their shared origins, which is promptly stolen, Irish pirate Alex and prophesied leader of the witches Charlotte are hot on its trail—and each other. A hilarious, madcap, sexy, and fantastical read ensues! Because of the tone… 👇

underground_bks (Cont.) sometimes tragic historical events are treated with frivolity. I would love to see the magical alter the historical in these books, with liberation and diversity as part of the world, but this is an incredibly fun historical fantasy romance and I deeply enjoy it for being what it is! 2y
