With the help of delivery person, Harley, and a whole lot of soul searching, Syd works on recovering their emotional bakes, saving relationships, saving the safe space the bakery is for the queer community, and figuring out who they are.

February's pick was between this and Paris Daillencourt but the cozy feeling of Heartbreak Bakery won out.
Choosing between Jan and Feb was tough because they're both great queer stories but I ultimately decided on Astrid cause I related to it more

Oh yeah, this book is exactly what I need right now. Thanks to @CaseyTheCanadianLesbrarian for the recommendation! I was so tempted to make these brownies today but I don‘t have the appropriate chocolate or any dried cherries.

Stayed up too late last night finishing this cute romance seasoned with magical realism, queer representation, and a whole bunch of mouth watering recipes. My biggest issue was trying to remember that Syd (Agender MC) was supposed to be a high school student still; I wonder if the character might‘ve been a bit stronger if allowed to be even a recent graduate or something. It was a weird circumstance that was wholly unnecessary. Still a fun read!

You might have to suspend your belief quite a lot to read this one, but if you're willing to go with the flow, it's a fun, delicious read. Featuring every kind of queer love and a dash of magical realism, this YA romance is at times sweet enough to give the reader a tooth ache, but it was a nice break from my usual dark reads. I probably liked it more than the rest of book club.

I absolutely loved this book! Syd discovering their baking magic by accidentally breaking a bunch of couples up with brownies and then needing to fix it was a lot of fun. Great queer rep, super cute romance, and a lot of interesting exploration of relationships and what people need. I loved the narrative in the recipes too, and plan to make more of these delicious treats after making the scones and loving them. #LGBTQ #Baking #Bakery #Romance
