This series is a sheer delight! These installments cover Betsy‘s freshman and sophomore years at Deep Valley High School, and all of the angst and excitement involved in coming of age. (Surprisingly, I don‘t find Betsy‘s angst annoying, unlike that of more modern protagonists. 😆) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

LeahBergen I don‘t find it annoying either! 😆 5mo

That time I dressed up for #BetsysPartyinPlace and had afternoon champagne tea. No time for party today but plan #avisittodeepvalley in celebration of Maud Hart Lovelace's Birthday today. 🥳

GingerAntics Girl, that looks like you were living the life that day. That classic look really works for you. Plus the book of course. That‘s the accessory that goes with everything. 2y

I re-read many, many books every year, but without a doubt #IveReread these #3Books more than most others. I guess when I really need a pick-me-up, I'm turning to children's historical fiction! #FarmerBoy #LIW #betsytacy #maudhartlovelace #julieandrews

#LitsyPartyOfOne

I‘m enjoying Betsy‘s senior year SO MUCH, @rubyslippersreads . ❤️❤️

Melissa_J Is this a series? If so, what is the first book? 5y
catebutler This was such a fun one, and one of my favourites too! 5y
LeahBergen @Melissa_J Oh, you‘ll love this series! It‘s a bit like an American Anne of Green Gables as the series follows Betsy (and her friends) from the age of 5 to college and beyond. The writing style of the series matures as the characters do, so be prepared for quite “simplistic” writing in the first few. I bought the first four in one volume 5y

LeahBergen @Melissa_J Oh, and the illustrator changes after the first (4-in-1) volume. You‘d better just order the whole series to start like I did. 😂 5y
LeahBergen @Melissa_J There are three more trade paperbacks after the 4-in-1. 5y
LeahBergen @Melissa_J So, ten volumes in total with remainder in 2-in-1 volumes. 5y
LeahBergen @Melissa_J They‘re heavily based on the author‘s childhood and these trade pb editions have photos and notes about the real people in the back of each volume. 5y
Melissa_J Thank you! I just screen shot this so I know what to get 😉 5y
LeahBergen @Melissa_J Too much information? 😂😂 You can blame @rubyslippersreads for introducing me to this series (AND for the cute Betsy-Tacy bookmark in the photo! 😘) 5y
Melissa_J There is no such thing as too much book-related information. And of course I did notice the lovely bookmark 🔖 5y
LeahBergen @Melissa_J 😂😂 I think you‘ll love them. I don‘t know why they weren‘t more readily available in Canadian school libraries? 🤔 5y
LeahBergen @catebutler I‘m a wee bit sad that I‘m coming closer to the end of the series. 😩 5y
Chrissyreadit ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️There is Carneys Houseparty too. 5y
LeahBergen @Chrissyreadit I was looking at that in the back of this book! 👏🏻👏🏻 It‘s republished with Winona‘s Pony Cart. I‘ll be needing it. 😆😆 5y
LeahBergen @Chrissyreadit Also, although not an actual Betsy book, 5y
Chrissyreadit I totally recommend Emily of Deep Valley. It is a beautiful story. 5y
Chrissyreadit Someday I will go to the Betsy Tracy conference. 5y
LeahBergen @Chrissyreadit I would love to go, too! Hmm... Litsy Meetup? 😆😆 5y
catebutler @LeahBergen I felt the same way, I definitely had a major book hangover after these. There are a few more books that she wrote featuring some of the other characters. So check them out! 5y
Chrissyreadit @LeahBergen that would be fun! Two Littens organize it also. Now I have to remember who.... 5y
Chrissyreadit @catebutler I still have book hangover after more than 20 years. And multiple readings. 5y
MrBook 😁👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 5y
rubyslippersreads @LeahBergen @Melissa_J I‘m always trying to lure people into the cult. 😉 5y
Reviewsbylola I discovered these books about ten years ago. So sweet. I wish I had known about them when I was younger. 5y
Melissa_J Ok, I just ordered the first three books ☺️ @rubyslippersreads 5y
LeahBergen @Melissa_J Yay!! Did you order the first 3 as separate volumes or the multi-volumes like mine? 5y
Melissa_J Same one you have 😉 5y

I love this book ❤️ When I first read the Betsy books I started at the end with Betsy's Wedding. I wasn't able to read this book or Betsy and the Great World for a few years because my library didn't have it. So I was always missing part of the story. I still to this day remember going to a far away library with my dad to do genealogy research and finding this book and reading it in one sitting!

Every now and again I need to revisit the books I loved as a girl, the books that kept me company when I lived among non-readers, the books that convinced me that writing was an ambition other "ordinary" people had. Even more than Jo March, Betsy Ray was my secret soul sister.
