Fallout
Fallout | Ellen Hopkins
This gripping conclusion to the New York Times bestselling Crank trilogy features a refreshed look and a trade paperback trim size.Hunter, Autumn, and Summerthree of Kristina Snows five childrenlive in different homes, with different guardians and different last names. They share only a predisposition for addiction and a host of troubled feelings toward the mother who barely knows them, a mother who has been riding with the monster, crank, for twenty years. Hunter is nineteen, angry, getting by in college with a job at a radio station, a girlfriend he loves in the only way he knows how, and the occasional party. He's struggling to understand why his mother left him, when he unexpectedly meets his rapist father, and things get even more complicated. Autumn lives with her single aunt and alcoholic grandfather. When her aunt gets married, and the only family shes ever known crumbles, Autumns compulsive habits lead her to drink. And the consequences of her decisions suggest that theres more of Kristina in her than shed like to believe. Summer doesnt know about Hunter, Autumn, or their two youngest brothers, Donald and David. To her, family is only abuse at the hands of her fathers girlfriends and a slew of foster parents. Doubt and loneliness overwhelm her, and she, too, teeters on the edge of her mothers notorious legacy. As each searches for real love and true family, they find themselves pulled toward the one person who links them togetherKristina, Bree, mother, addict. But it is in each other, and in themselves, that they find the trust, the courage, the hope to break the cycle. Told in three voices and punctuated by news articles chronicling the familys story, FALLOUT is the stunning conclusion to the trilogy begun by CRANK and GLASS, and a testament to the harsh reality that addiction is never just one persons problem.

So, I am VERY late. Just read the Crank, and Glass books by Hopkins. Just started the Fallout book, last of the series. The change of perspectives is different and interesting.🤔

I feel like the only one who hasn‘t read her books. So I‘m catching up! 🤗

There are no words to describe how much these books have impacted my life. I remember picking one up in middle school and I couldn't get enough. Each story is so heartwrenching and such a rollercoaster of emotions.

Very powerful book!

Kristina is a good student, a good daughter, an honest person... until she spends some time with her father and is introduced to “the monster.”

It is not too long before drugs overpower her, and her whole life is turned upside down.

Beautifully written, and I cannot speak highly enough of the poetic prose. Highly recommend this to high school students searching for a meaningful book.

Loving Ellen Hopkins lately!!

“Whatever punishment lay ahead , only one thing could have improved that phat, fabulous day: a big bite of the monster.”

Addiction can happen so, so quickly.

I really struggled with this. After having read the first 2 books and coming to know and love Kristina, in spite of her poor choices, it was hard for me to switch perspectives and have her be a secondary character who everyone dislikes. Also, I felt like this was less poetic than the first two.

Day 11: #Black ft. an entirely black cover. I‘m not 100% sure if this book started this way or if the book has been handled too many times by my students (though I‘m not complaining if it means they have picked up a book) but either way, the prompt made me think of this book.

Really just want to get this series over with. No hope at all, but I have this thing about finishing books and series that I start. Who knows, maybe this will be the first.

I first stumbled upon these books probably when I was 10 and I just never picked them up, they never popped out at me. Until one particularly long reading slump when I was maybe 16 and just decided to read it. Best decision I've made. These were the first books to really make me cry, and to this day Hopkins is a go-to author for me. I've reread these books countless times too,and each time it's just as impactful as the last.vbb

"Still dealing with the fallout of choices..."
Finished with Fallout by Ellen Hopkins!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!! Although this wasn't as "heavy" as a lot of Hopkins' fans are accustomed to regarding her books, I was crying when I finished it. Once again Hopkins' has made me feel intense compassion for anyone struggling with addiction and that in my opinion is worth the read alone. ?

You're flustered, I'm not flustered. 😅 I haven't read Ellen Hopkins' books since high school because I was nervous how I felt about her stories then wouldn't live up to the now. I was so, so wrong. FALLOUT is about the children of Kristina, the main character in CRANK who is addicted to crystal meth. A harsh read for a beautiful Saturday afternoon, but so, so good.

Well the plan to tackle some of my library print books has been derailed. Little man is suffering his first ear infection and I could only get him to sleep if he was next to me in bed and the lights were off. This is when ebooks really do come in handy. Looking forward to the last installment of this series as both prior books were excellent. (Bonus points for the David Benoit holiday pandora station in the background. Yay for xmas jazz!!)

YA lit is full of dysfunctional families but this trilogy really stuck with me for a long time. Hopkins' verses are so tragically beautiful, you will return again and again despite the haunting content. I recommend this series every year to my students and my copies, without fail, mysteriously disappear from my shelves by the end of the year. #24in48 #readathon

Finale of the Crank series. Does a phenomenal job at showing how addictions effect more people than just the addict.
