What a delightful #litsylovefallswap package, @ShelleyBooksie . I am super excited about both those books, and loved all the other thoughtful things you included: tea, stationary, candy, beeswax food wraps, book sleeve, treat for Pippa, and the little set of cards and pen. I loved it all. Thanks for putting it together for me and knowing me so well. 😘

Logan‘s dads are paranormal investigators and when they take her back to their hometown and local teens start going missing, she has to question everything she thought she knew about herself and her family, to protect them all. and why does the first victim‘s girlfriend, Ashley, want to team up with her? a dark and suspenseful paranormal mystery, with LGBTQIA+ rep. tbh this book could have been shorter but I enjoyed it still.

I've seen this landscape before, I've seen these sorta towns. A very strong debut about family, all sorta of love (and hate), and ghosts. When everything comes together at the end, oh my gosh. Like, I guessed the killer earlier on, but the how and why of it. As a parent, I 100% get it. 😭

Loved it! Teens, friends of Ashley, are going missing in a small town; her boyfriend is the first to go. Is it a supernatural presence? Why can she see ghosts? And then Logan comes into to town with her two dads, hosts of a popular ghost hunting show, and things get even crazier. Especially when sparks fly between Ashley and Logan. It‘s a horror/thriller novel, with a bit of romance. Lgbtq YA. Highly recommend! @Endowarrior21 @HWarren

This was a perfect October spooky vibes book! Very atmospheric. I really enjoyed listening to it. When Logan and her dads entered the town of Snakebite, OR, things are not what they seem. Teens start disappearing and some turn up dead. There is darkness and secrets. A great story and perfect for spooky season.

It's unboxing day for the August Rainbow Crate Book Box (they're a little behind due to a huge delay in July)!

This is my first box from this company (as a birthday treat for myself), and it's been a fun experience. This month's theme is Who You Gonna Call? and fandoms include The Dead and the Dark, Cemetery Boys, Shade, Elatsoe, and Back Water Sisters (plus a download for A Light Amongst Shadows).

GondorGirl That was such a good book! And I always look forward to Rainbow Crate unboxings, because they always add books to by TBR list. 🧡🌈 3y
Kenyazero @GondorGirl They always add to my TBR too! Really looking forward to reading this book soon. It sounds super fun! 3y

I didn't realize my #RainbowCrateBookBox was arriving yesterday. What a fun surprise to come home to! I'm very excited about this LGBTQ-focused book subscription box that I also know won't make decisions to support problematic authors who harm the trans and nonbinary community. I'll post pictures of contents later this month ;) (the tagged book is the month's featured book)

I think the strength of The Dead and the Dark came at the end as the author pulled everything together. It was a really interesting and unexpected conclusion. It explained so much of what had happened within the slow build well, but it did still leave me feeling a bit like certain matters weren‘t settled.

A wonderful dark supernatural mystery. Logan‘s dads are supernatural investigators that drag her along with them to their old hometown where Logan realizes something dark and insidious is killing the children of this town and she needs to find out what it is to protect her family.

I... did not expect that to go the way it did.

If you enjoy ghost stories, paranormal investigation shows, prejudiced small towns, and tense family dynamics then this book is probably for you. It was creepy without being too scary, had great character development, and a really intriguing plot.

Also, I'm probably going to have nightmares. 😱

magyklyXdelish I won a copy of this from goodreads and have yet to read it. This review pushed it further up the list 🤗 3y

Ashley finds it strange when all of the sudden her dad Brandon is gone to "film" their show and Alejo her other dad decide its time to follow him and be in Snakebite. The town that both her dad's grew up in. Strange things start happening. Kids are coming up missing and some even dead. I found this horror/paranormal young adult book fantastic. I felt like Courtney Gould did the perfect amount of spooky to keep me at the edge of my seat.

BookNightOwl Thank you Wednesday Books and Netgalley for an advance copy of The Dead and the Dark for an honest review. A+ 3y
GondorGirl I don't really do horror, but I recieved an ARC of this the other day... it's it more atmospheric spooky or slasher horror? 3y
BookNightOwl @GondorGirl it's more spooky than horror... I'm not really into this kind of genre either but this was an easy read because you really couldn't figure out what was going on. 3y

This book really put me in a reading slump. It's not the worst book, but I just really didn't connect with it. And I'm really surprised because it had everything that I would love in a book, spooky mystery, paranormal investigation and solid representation.
I love that the MC has two dads that have their own paranormal show, but hated how neglectful they were as parents. 👇

Tera66 Love a good love story, but I didn't buy the romance, the chemistry just wasn't on the page. I hate to do this with an ARC from Netgalley, but they do want an honest review. It just was not for me.⭐⭐. 3y
Reggie Oof, the slump inducing bad book. Been there and it‘s no fun. 3y
Twainy I can understand that. It took me awhile to get hooked & I thought it was going to be a low star book for me also. It just didn‘t take off for awhile & didn‘t live up to my expectations off the bat. I hope you find a great book to get you unslumped! 🤗 3y
Tera66 @Reggie And now this is the only book I've finished this month 😒. I might of DNF'd if I didn't get it from Netgalley. 3y
Tera66 @Twainy I'm glad that you liked it, and I'm seeing that other people seem to be enjoying it. It just didn't hit for me, but I like everything this book has in it. 3y

🎧 Cover sold me, from the Thriller category.

Snakebite, Oregon has a problem. Teenagers are going missing.

Logan & her 2 dads show up in Snakebite. The dads have a Snakebite history. The dads are ghost hunters. Logan is a lesbian. The small town is homophobic & fearful hate mongers prevail.

Logan meets 2 “cousins” at the Bates motel. That took me out & drew me into the book. The two boys are uber gamer nerds.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/3 👇🏻

Twainy Logan is isolated and lonely. The book deals with this well. She meets Ashly who is the GF of the latest missing boy. They have a connection.

More kids vanish. The girls become closer & share their spooky/creepy stories.

Logan & her fathers are the targets of hate crimes & are thought to have brought the bad times back to town.

Twainy
Atmospheric, supernatural, psychological, thriller. A lonely outcast in a fear & hate-filled small town.

Things happen, murder, attempted murder, something supernatural, something human, it‘s a little bit all over the place but it‘s a fun ride. The character interaction is believable.

It took me a little longer than usual to get into the book, possibly 20-25% before I was hooked but then I read it strait through. I personally enjoyed it and it had a good ending.

Thank you NetGalley & the publisher for providing me with a copy of the audiobook.

Twainy @Hazel2019 this time around in July I chose NetGalley books in my chosen categories by … cover. LOL I‘m not sure it was a good idea …. More of a lazy idea that didn‘t help me get into a book I was clueless about. I support reading the summary on this one. It‘s not overly scary but there‘s triggers. Happy Thursday! 🤗 (edited) 3y

Snakebite is a town I will not soon forget. This book has all sorts of good things going for it- a creepy town full of secrets, complex characters, dark twists and turns, and let's not forget ghosts!

It started really strong for me setting up the town and the characters, then things slowed quite a bit, but the book redeemed itself with a great ending.

I really enjoyed this read. The plot had a lot of suspense and the multiples perspectives kept me on my toes. I also loved the representation of queer romances. This is not a story I could ever reread since there isn't anything that could change my vision of the story or be new the second time around, But this is the perfect novel to read if you want to have a quick thrill but still be able to sleep at night.

An entertaining and unique story. I liked the character development and world building. The characters were fleshed out well enough to evoke emotions. I had been teetering between a 3 and 4 star rating for most of the book. I decided on 4 stars because, although mildly flawed, I was able to read it without worrying about the page number or time. I will keep an eye out for more work by this author.

Thank you to NetGalley for granting me a copy.
