2024: 7 This was alright. Entertaining sci-fi but not enough to bring me back for book 2.

A review from @Hooked_on_books put this on my radar. Thank you Holly! Turns out an 800 odd page space adventure was just what i needed 😂. Thoroughly enjoyed this, my first Paolini book. The Amazon listing suggests this is the start of a series but it works as a stand alone too. Really enjoyed the found family aspect and the interactions with aliens and alien tech. Lots of battles and adrenaline but also memorable characters.

While checking out one last thing on the survey of an uncolonized planet, xenobiologist Kira unexpectedly encounters an alien artifact. This touches off a series of events she could never have expected. This book is a serious chunkster (33 hours on audio), but I really enjoyed it and didn‘t find it to drag anywhere. Space stories aren‘t usually my thing, but maybe I should read more. 🤔

I think this is a little too epic for my current mood… putting it on pause for now, and maybe revisiting in a few weeks

Christopher Paolini did a good job of infusing natural science and social science elements into this science fiction novel.

This was a page turner for me. I loved the setting and writing style. The author was really good at getting me to feel exactly what the character was feeling. I recommend this book if you‘re interested in space travel, galactic warfare, and extremely detailed book settings. Paolini put a lot of work into this setting and I loved trying to figure everything out. I know I missed some things, and I‘m planning on rereading with a fine toothed comb.

I don‘t know what Saturday me was thinking when I got my summer reading program stack but apparently I was like you just finished a chunkster so let‘s do another? Starting this today.

Bk6 of January 2022 & #JumpStart2022 is done. It‘s also the 2nd for #JoyousJanuary #readathon & my #Bookspin for January. Yay! Finally finished another book, my stats for Jan are awful so far. Though most were over 500pgs. I loved this the 1st time I read it & this time was no different. I‘m so wiped by The Great Library Clean, mentally & physically, that I couldn‘t concentrate on a new book but a reread of a book I absolutely loved the 1st time sounded great. Already a third through & loving it just as much❤️ #JumpStart2022

It was a Paolini month, it was very difficult choosing a favorite, but TSIASOS just barely edged above.

I read this back when it first came out and then again a few months ago as Paolini has always been a great writer. TSiaSoS is such a fantastic book and has such an original story. It was a breath of fresh air for the sci-fi genre. The ending was a little wanting but overall I highly recommend this book!

When I picked up this book, I had no idea that it would become one of my all-time favorite SciFi novels! It was an epic journey that not only told a moving story of identity clashing with morality, but also included extremely loveable characters in this reader‘s opinion. Not to mention that Paolini seamlessly incorporated philosophical ideas and puns, which made this philosophy major have multiple fangirl moments!

This book is rubbing me the wrong way. . . It just feels wrong that the main character is a scientist way in the future obsessed with her boyfriend. I mean I‘m 3 chapters in and 90% of it is about how much she loves him and how he surprised her with a proposal. It feels disingenuous.

Maybe I‘ve been reading too much Becky Chambers and just expect more than traditional gender roles from my distant future books now… 😂

I read and listened to this. Jennifer Hale did a fantastic job in her narration. Gregorovich by far my favorite character. The story itself did draw out a bit and somethings didn't flow well until the very end, then it made sense.

Started this beast yesterday. Putting it on pause for a readathon challenge event but at least made a dent in it. Not entirely sure how I feel about it, it‘s interesting but something feels off, pacing maybe? I don‘t know. Will keep plugging away at it though.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I‘ve been a fan of Paolini‘s since I was about fourteen, so reading this now, despite the genre change, felt like coming home. I adored every moment of it, and I look forward to more!

Wow, this book absolutely sucked me in. There were a few parts of the plot that could have been improved, and some of the names for things made me think he forgot this was an adult level novel instead of his previous young adult. But overall, really good.

I really enjoyed the recent interview he did with the scientist who helped with the FTL concept. Absolutely fascinating.

This felt like Star Wars mashed up with The Hobbit. Lots and lots of traveling parts which reminded me of all the walking scenes in Lord of the Rings. This book was well written, but LONG. I feel that had some of it been cut out, I would have enjoyed it more.

I just started listening to this book and I am enthralled 😱.

I went out of service for like 2 hours and came back and Libby had like 6 holds come in at the same time so I'm starting with this one.

Threw To Sleep Under a Sea of Stars aside. Pushing myself to read it, I was able reach page 220, but I felt like there was little happening in the 50-70 pages I read, part II feels as slow as part I. Also, Paolini is overexplaining every little detail to the point he repeats the same information. It's not a hard book to read, but neither does it feel unique as of yet.

This was way longer than it needed to be. You can tell it was written with the intent of it being turned into a movie series. The author peppered in swearing in unnatural places as a cheap way to make the book feel "adult," borrowed from the Alien movie series pretty heavily, and just kind of left me ranting in angry bursts my partner wasn't interested in as I tried to figure out what about this author was so irritating... But I finished it...

I loved this book. Read it the day it came out (took a long while) Although it come out in September 2020, just recently the author sent out a fan-email about some concept art. While fun to imagine the characters and the ships, I find it very helpful to get the “real picture”
So here is an image of Kira with the soft blade. An Earth military spaceship. The Wallfish ship. The alien Jellies, and then their own ships.

I was hooked immediately, then listening became work because if I missed a word I missed a pivotal moment in the story. Now with 18 hours left to go I think I have found my rhythm and finally settled into the world and finally care about the characters.

The narrator is excellent.

This book. I‘m not sure. I enjoyed parts but then I was bored for large parts of it. And if I‘m completely honest the ending left me unsatisfied.

Was this intended to be a series? It feels like it but as far as I know it is not one.

I‘d be interested in hearing your thoughts if you‘ve read this one.

So, what do you want me to say? The story hooked me and I kept reading; although skipping over a lot of the slower parts. What I ultimately missed was the feeling of horror of alien (without that it was more of a superhero story). But I kept reading and was looking for sequel—so it was at least that good :-)

The tagged book is the author's first adult novel since his best-selling "Eragon" series, which I still need to get to. I believe he's continuing to build upon this fractalverse.

Kira is a riveting main character and the story takes off quickly.

I don't usually dig #scifi or #space novels, but after reading "The Martian" I'm game to try more; this one is pretty good so far.

At 878 pages (apparently that's 309,000 words), this space epic from Paolini was a very entertaining and thrilling ride through the galaxy amongst warring factions of humans and aliens. There were moments that dragged on a bit, but it was never dull. I only wish I knew that there was a glossary at the end of the book which would have cleared up some things for me. So if you do read this, be aware of that glossary! Safe travels!

Wow, this book is a chunkster! I‘ve heard the story is good, so hoping I can skim the technical stuff and the battle scenes and still get it. Here goes....

This is a hefty book! It‘s 872 pages and is long. There is a lot of information in it and there was a lot of tedious things in it that made me bored and made me want to DNF the book quite a bit. I‘m so happy to be finished with it. I do love Kira and her growth. The Wallfish characters were my favorite and I loved how they interacted.

Chugging along. Enjoying the premise, but find myself skimming the “action” scenes. #currentlyreading

Slowly chipping away at Paolini‘s new book. I didn‘t expect it to be so dense? It‘s hard sci fi and there‘s a lot happening and a lot of detail to pay attention to so it‘s warranted, but goodness it‘s taking a long time to read!

I‘m finally getting to my final end-of-year wrap up.

Tagging Sea of Stars because I haven‘t stopped thinking about it for over a week since I finished it. I didn‘t put it on my best of list because it sneaked in at the very end of the year.

Final stats: 64% female authors, 37% LGBTQIA+ books, 33% BIPOC. One of my main goals was reading fewer WM authors, and I‘m happy with my results! I‘d love to exceed these this year.

858 pages?!?
This should count as 3 books towards my 2021 reading goal!

Book gifts are the best gifts! 📚 I‘m excited to read all of these but Paolini‘s new novel in particular. I loved the Inheritance 🐉 series so I have high expectations for this one!

I guess I had a better reading month in December than I thought. It‘s always an insane month for me at work, and I often have less reading time. But several of these are chunksters, so I‘m actually pretty satisfied.

Best of the month is definitely 100% To Sleep in a Sea of Stars. So good!

I also loved The Book of Two Ways and Addie La Rue.

2020 haul and unhaul. Excited to get to everything in the haul stack. As for the unhaul I only keep books I see myself rereading and these were not the ones this year.

Just picked up these two books to add to my TBR pile. Can‘t wait to check them off!
