Circus of the Damned
Circus of the Damned | Laurell K. Hamilton
'Most women complain that there are no single straight men left. I'd just like to meet one that's human.'I'm Anita Blake, expert on creatures of the night. I've dined with shapeshifters, danced with werewolves, and been wooed - but not won - by Jean-Claude, the Vampire Master of the City. And now a darkly dangerous vampire named Alejandro has hit town. He wants me for his human servant. A war of the undead has begun. Over me ...

Circus of the Damned | Laurell K. Hamilton

Anita ducks and dives and is burnt, bruised, cut and tempted and still she survives, soul and morals intacted.
Circus has Anita as a pawn in a turf war between Jean-Claude the Master of the city and two ancient Master vampire.
With her soul in the balance the last thing she needs to be worried about is her dating status but that also rears its head in the form of a High school science teacher that is somehow entangled in this all too, 3/5 stars

Finished another Anita Blake audiobook today, just in time for the last day of the #Scarathlon #readathon. It‘s the 3rd book in the series, Anita is still struggling with her connection to Jean-Claude, the Vampire Master of the City. When another powerful vampire comes to challenge him, she‘s very tempted to turn him over to the newcomer. But who is Mr Oliver really? 11points to #TeamSlaughter #PointsTotal-1,796

This series seems to be getting darker with each novel. I also like the fact that we have well Vampires and Hunting of vampires in this novel. I am loving the unfolding of the vampire world. The question will be can I continue to tolerate Anita she is becoming a tad annoying - that may be by product of having read three books in a row with the same character.

This is a reread / second attempt at this series and the audiobook may be a mistake. Every time the narrator channels the sexy French vampire, I have a harder and harder time not wincing. "Ma petite" never sounded more ridiculous.

Sometimes after a really long day of work (clocked 13 hours today), I just need something familiar and dark, with strong hints of sarcasm and cynicism.

Finished this last night, it was so good!!! The early books in this series are miles apart from the recent ones. It went from 0 sex to constant sex!! I dont have a problem with sexy books its just that this series had such a good story!!

#sizzlinsummerbooks day 16 #graphic
The only graphic novel set i own, and graphic in its bloody scenes, The Anita Blake vampire hunter graphic novels! I, of course, have all the books, but the graphic novels are mine aswell! I love her! Well, early books her, later books her seems to be going through a sexual revolution with herself. This is book three, so shes still mostly badass and less sex.

Yanes Looks really 🤤 scary 4y
Linear @Yanes since the prompt was graphic, I used the most graphic pictures I could find in the picture of Gore. 4y
Yanes And you did a great job. Even though it scares me. Thanks for sharing 😊 4y

#characters2017 Day 3 I think Edward from the Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series would fall into Slytherin. #slytherin

julesG I can picture him in his school robes. 😁 4y
LibrarianRyan 🤓👍 4y
Linear They once had a shared about this Edward versus the Twilight Edward but I can't remember what it said. I just know that to this day I live with regret for not buying it before it went away 4y

Yeah, ok, it's better than the first two books. Not great, but not awful. And there is something that makes me want to keep reading — in part it's trying to figure out what it is that I found so compelling and addictive in the series when I first read it; but also knowing that there are better story lines coming. If I didn't know that, I don't think I'd keep reading this, based on how I feel now. How can our tastes and feelings change so much?

Linear My personal favorite thing about Anita Blake, is an every movie and every book that I've ever read or seen, when the good guy has the bad guy at the end of their Barrel they always find an excuse not to pull the trigger and the bad guy gets away. Like they seriously could have ended everything by killing them when they had the chance and they always choose not to. Everyone except Anita 4y
Elisa @Linear yeah, Anita is actually a badass, she is not playing at it 😮Cynical, too — she has no trust at all that the bad guy can be reformed, so she ends it right there. Others may still hold out hope and that's why they are not so quick with the gun — though Buffy was pretty damn fast with a stake too, so this might be specific to vampires! (edited) 4y

😏😏
I have to admit that I don't entirely disagree with her there. I don't mind a man opening the restaurant door for me if we are on a date, but the car door? Where I have to wait until he runs around to my side? That's just awkward. I'd rather open my own door.

Linear My boyfriend has been insisting on opening the car door for me but I always feel like it's a waste of time. Like what does this do to make life better? I understand the door to a building, but the car door is just wasting mine and his time. 4y
Elisa @Linear haha, I guess it's kind of sweet though. Maybe let him read this passage and tell him Anita Blake agrees with you? 😉😁 4y

Ok, maybe I won't take a break after all 😁
I previously gave this book ⭐️⭐️⭐️; let's see how I feel about it this time around 🙂 #AnitaBlake #reread

CaitlinSiem I've been rereading this series myself! Well, the first 9 books I listened to on audio and now I'm reading through the next 9(?) because there aren't audiobooks for them. 5y
Elisa @CaitlinSiem I didn't know there were only 9 audiobooks! Now I'm curious 😃 5y
CaitlinSiem Well they pick back up on book 17 I believe it is (I'd have to double check the exact book). 5y

Circus of the Damned really pushed the Anita Blake series well for the third book. We finally get to meet the infamous Richard (such a love hate thing there—especially since I've been a fan of Jean-Claude since day 1) and we get to fight beside the best vampires in the Midwest. Her details are gruesome and fantastic. On audio, the mix of sound effects and descriptions had me cringing and squeezing the steering wheel extra tight. I loved it. Again.

BarbaraTheBibliophage Great review. I love this book maybe an audio read would be fun for #HalloweenHorror! 😈 5y
CaitlinSiem @BarbaraTheBibliophage Thank you! And yes! It works extra well since Halloween is a part of this one. 👻 5y
BarbaraTheBibliophage Oh I'd forgotten that! Hmmm ... 🎃 5y
RanaElizabeth Richard was such a drip, at least compared with Jean-Claude. 5y
TheNextBook I loved the first few books in the series. I stopped at 10. It just became too much. But Anita was so bad ass. 5y
