Blackpool Rock
Blackpool Rock: Guns, Gangs and Door Wars in Britain's Wildest Town | Steve Sinclair
2 posts | 1 to read
To the police he was Public Enemy Number One. To drunken gangs of yobs intent on trouble, he was a nightmare come true. Steve Sinclair was the toughest doorman in the wildest resort in Britain - and if you crossed him, payback was swift and certain. Blackpool, once a byword for cheeky family fun, was by the 1980s a violent town plagued by lager louts, drug dealers and villains intent on muscling in on the lucrative club trade. Sinclair worked the biggest clubs and the roughest doors. He and his associates fought hundreds of battles against football hooligans, gang members and rival hardmen. They were also branded gangsters and were blamed by the police for serious unsolved crimes. Described by On The Doors magazine as 'a compelling, gripping and fascinating tale', THE BLACKPOOL ROCK is a candid insight into the dangerous world of the modern doorman and of the extreme methods he sometimes employs to defend himself and his customers and uphold his hard-won reputation.

Very different pictures today as we are in Blackpool, and to put it very simply there is only one Blackpool, as the pictures demonstrate!

#DailyCheckIn

Birdsong28 Loving the pictures! 📚 📖 4y
TrishB Ah Blackpool, scene of many a holiday in my youth. One summer I used to make everyone go to a certain cafe as they had Gary Numan on the juke box. I played the same song for an hour over lunch. Everyone loved me. 4y
TrishB Today has been ok, work felt normal, busy but not too stressed. Meetings most of the rest of the week now. Hope all ok with you Andrew. 4y
Andrew65 @TheBookHippie Worrying that our schools will be open in June! Media seem desperate to get schools back despite the vast majority in opinion polls being against it. Purchased face visors today for every member of staff and looking at what we need to do to control the risks. Blackpool is certainly an interesting place. 4y
Andrew65 @BookwormM Enjoy your book, and hope the hay fever improves soon. 4y
Andrew65 @Birdsong28 A few times recently we have driven our Motorhome through Blackpool, always great fun. 4y
TheBookHippie @Andrew65 😳😫 if ppl have their way they‘ll be open here..... ugh 4y
Andrew65 @TheBookHippie Plain ridiculous! 😱 4y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Beautiful pics as always! My brain is about to explode too @thebookhippie !! Trying to figure out who are nurses is stressing me out! I go back to work tomorrow for 3 days so maybe I will get some sanity without the news on! And then I saw there is a “murder hornet“ in the US from Asia!! WTH!!!! 4y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Blackpool looks fun! Today had been a tame Monday so far. Making some reservations for contract clients to finish out the day. My body is a bit stiff from couch time this weekend so I'll do some yoga and a bit of cleaning before relaxing with a book. I have very slowly worked my way through watching Parks & Rec at lunch time, and have now finished. It was a fun series. 4y
Andrew65 @TrishB Meetings do seem to take up our time. I spent a small time in school this morning for documents, invoices, orders etc that need signing. All feels very surreal although I did get there at 6.40 am. In main fine but stressing about schools reopening and how you can possibly keep children and staff safe. 4y
Andrew65 @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks That Hornet doesn‘t sound fun! 🐝 Hope you do get some sanity tomorrow away from the media and everything else. Good luck at work tomorrow. 4y
Andrew65 @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Sounds an overall good day. Blackpool is most definitely unique, we won‘t come anywhere quite like it on the rest of our travels. 4y
TrishB My kids are thankfully not school age, but everyone I know with school aged kids is worried sick - both about their own families and the staff ☹️ I have a bad feeling that lots of things are going to be relaxed at the end of this week. So much pressure from businesses. But I don‘t see where the pressure is for schools? 4y
Andrew65 @TrishB I think it is the media, Lead of OFSTED, children‘s commissioner and so parents can go to work. I think it might be at least another couple of weeks before things are eased but opinion polls should more than two-thirds don‘t want this to happen. Seems ridiculous when talking about easing things when number of deaths and confirmed cases much higher than when we went into lockdown. 4y
Andrew65 @TrishB I think a lot of people will keep their children off school. We had more than half off in the week leading up to closure. (edited) 4y
Andrew65 @TrishB Currently trying to source PPE resources as clearly can‘t rely on the government for this. 4y
CocoReads Not a bad day, felt almost normal. Inpatient and outpatient Surgery is back open. We closed the inpatient surgical floor back in March and as of today it‘s back open with a whopping 9 patients. Time flew by today—no chance to be bored. The county I live in starts required masking in stores tomorrow. 4y
kezzlou85 Hope you've had a better day today @Andrew65 . Mine was, more home learning but into the swing of it now. Gotta brave the supermarket tomorrow. 4y
TrishB Just what you thought you‘d be doing! Such a pressure and then you‘re taking resources off the NHS. Why should schools have to do this ☹️ think it‘s unlikely we‘ll go back to the office until July. But we‘ll see. The uncertainty doesn‘t help either. 4y
Andrew65 @TrishB Crazy! The local company we are using don‘t provide the NHS because quantities they can provide are too small. Why the government aren‘t using these smaller providers I don‘t know. That was my concern! Government hint they will provide, now why don‘t I trust that! 🤔 look at the mess they made of vouchers. We had to make alternative (and better) arrangements there too. Feel I‘ve got to protect my staff. It is the uncertainty which is worse 4y
Andrew65 @kezzlou85 I‘m frustrated by home learning as can‘t provide what our children need, and work in a very high deprivation area so many don‘t have resources for online or people that can support them in it. 4y
Andrew65 @CocoReads sounds like some much needed normality. Shocked to see how, was it California, backed off on that requirement. 4y
CocoReads I know someplace in Oklahoma did. It‘s hard to believe the number of people who refuse to do it. But there are idiots everywhere 4y
Andrew65 @CocoReads At the moment there seem to be so many #Covidiots! 4y
CocoReads @Andrew65 and those are going to be the first to be the demanding and assholish patients we all hate to see. 4y
Andrew65 @CocoReads Yes most definitely! 4y
Itchyfeetreader Oh Blackpool! So many hols there when I was little! I‘m ok. Taking some joy in my not having killed the seeds I planted when we locked down! I feel for you. I worry the end of the week will see changes for the sake of making changes. 4y
Velvetfur I love Blackpool! These are great pics! Today a lady phoned me from the local job centre to check all was ok with my recent UC payment. We had a chat and she's going to give my number to her colleague in another dept who informs people of current jobs available. Apparently there are still jobs out there! So that's a little bit of hope 😊 4y
TheSpineView Today was good but I do have headache. I just want to lie down and close my eyes. 4y
Velvetfur Schools back in June??? So....what about the summer holidays? Would they be cancelled because of the time off kids have already had, and the school year run later than usual? Can parents just refuse to send their kids back to school, and home school if at all possible? I'm so confused! 4y
Velvetfur @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Murder hornet?!?! Hornets are one of the few animals I actually hate, as they're pure evil, so I'm gonna have to Google this one, scary as it is...! 4y
Andrew65 @Velvetfur I would normally say can‘t get staff to work in Summer because not in their contracts but everything screwed up this year so who knows what happens. Staff have a,ready worked over the Easter holidays. But when do they get a break? At this rate after this people will leave in droves if not handled right. If not careful people will reach breaking point, I know I haven‘t had any sort of proper break recently. (edited) 4y
Andrew65 @Velvetfur Also children not really had time off either work has gone to them every week since schools shut including some over the Easter holidays. But who knows what will happen. Half expecting unions to step in at some point especially around staff safety. I cannot guarantee safety of children or staff. I do not think a lot of children will send children back, also approaching a third of staff who are shielded. Who teaches them? Mine field! (edited) 4y
Velvetfur @Andrew65 Oh gosh, that really is all a mess! You of all people need a break, you've been knocking yourself out lately by the sound of it 🙁 I don't reckon it'll happen though, it's a logistical nightmare and going to school just doesn't matter when hundreds of people are dying every day, hopefully the incompetents (govt) will realise that. 💜 4y
tracey38 Fun pictures and lots of color! Today was a busy day at work but the day went by quickly, so that's a positive! Other than that, just tired as usual. 😉 4y
Andrew65 @Velvetfur I feel certain it will happen at some point and I get the impression it will be sone time in June. 4y
Andrew65 @tracey38 Get a good rest. 😊 4y
Velvetfur @Andrew65 Ugh... Dunno what else to say 🙁 4y
tracey38 @TheBookHippie yes, eat a cupcake! A coworker brought in Krispy Kreme donuts as they are giving a dozen free to healthcare workers right now on Mondays. Sad to say I had more than one today... 🤪 @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks yes, as if things couldn't get worse, there are now giant murder hornets! I just can't anymore... 4y
GHABI4ROSES I have had a good Monday vibe; professionally, I feel more stable today (not that there is Income, but I am remembering where it fits into my daily). Other Goals: not yet? Thank you for keeping us together on here! 4y
TheBookHippie @tracey38 LOVED the cupcake ...I ate two 💯🧁🧁 4y
tracey38 @TheBookHippie yay! And I don't feel bad at all about my donuts. They were good, too. 😆 4y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @Velvetfur google it! It was on the national news today!! 4y
Andrew65 @Velvetfur Does rather beggar belief! We‘ll have to just see how it plays out. At least I will have some say over the controls we put in. 4y
gradcat @Andrew65 Did you happen to see “Viva Blackpool” on television? It was several years ago, I think...anyway, that show made me realize that there is actually a part of Britain that is like our Las Vegas! ♥️ 4y
kezzlou85 @Andrew65 thats understandable. This situation is so difficult. There's going to be no easy or right answers to how to send schools back. Im not sure taking the summer holidays away is necessarily a good idea though. The teachers need a break and the kids will want one too especially if lockdown has eased by then. 4y
Velvetfur @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Oh my lord..... Now I want to come to America and chase hornets, then when I catch them - off with their heads!! 4y
JanuarieTimewalker13 Love this!! I want to see Blackpool!! I‘m going to look for a video on YT!! Thank you, Andrew!! 4y
margreads I went to Blackpool once when i lived in the UK. I was so pleased to see sand on the beaches even if it was black! 4y
