This is my first book by Jenkins and I liked it. The romance was alright. I never had the feelings I usually get when I read a romance, nor did I cry happy tears as I often do at the end. I think there wasn‘t enough concern over their eventual happiness, which makes no sense due to the time period and situation. What I absolutely loved was the historical information that Jenkins worked into the story and the feeling of community that Eddy finds ⬇️
This makes me so happy❤️ I love her books https://www.bookbub.com/blog/beverly-jenkins-forbidden-tv-show
Reading challenge: read a historial romance by an aoc. ✔
The romance was too raunchy for me, but I enjoyed the characters and the race storyline.
Great story (4 stars) but I was not too fond of the audiobook reader (3 stars.) I give it 3.5 stars total.
My review:

Absolutely amazing! The best historical romance I‘ve ever read! Everyone needs this in their life!! ❤️❤️❤️
(Still) raging about the RITA awards so this is my current reading list.
Typical amorous and sappy writing with shallowly written characters and easy to follow plot. Decent read... Good for fans of historical fiction and romance or those looking for a light read.
⭐⭐⭐
#Audiobook #Review: Forbidden by Beverly Jenkins with @AvonRomance and @HarperAudio. This was my first read from the iconic Beverly Jenkins, and it did not disappoint!⠀

I'm torn on this one. On the one hand, I was fascinated by the historical setting and the details about black life in the 1870s wild west: Rhine passing for white, politics, Eddy's cooking, community. On the other hand, I just wasn't sold on the couple. They had an instant attraction that wasn't developed and, despite the racial gulf between them, the romance didn't have high enough stakes. The representation of sex workers also naggled me.
Fascinating historical details and characters so far! The romance feels like it's still just getting started, which isn't a bad thing, just different from other romances I've read so far. I mean, it's almost halfway through and the hero is still engaged to someone else and the heroine isn't giving him the time of day! #Romantsy #BlackBooks
Got my first Beverly Jenkins out of the library! Any fans out there? #Romantsy
This was my first Beverly Jenkins romance, and it was pretty entertaining! There was a lot of interesting history tid bits. #litsyAtoZ #readharder #notaninnuendo
Loved it! Great characters, wonderful story, interesting setting. I just ❤️ Beverly Jenkins! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This book was an absolute delight. The romance was so much fun and so exciting. The characters kept me engaged and their problems weren‘t the end of the world kind of things to stress me out. They talked to each other and got to know each other so I could believe in the HEA and I know there‘s more to this series I can‘t wait to pick up! Jenkins writing was just so good!
My first time reading Beverly Jenkins and I was not let down. Such a fabulous read. Everything I hoped for and more. I can't recommend it enough. #readharder
I'm gonna have to read everything Beverly Jenkins has ever published, because this was WONDERFUL! The love story's great, but what set this apart for me was the focus on the characters' wider community. Jenkins peppers the text with details that make the world feel fully occupied and capable of rolling on even when the reader's not looking. The action does falters slightly near the end, but the book's strengths compensate for it. #romantsy
I've been in a reading slump lately and can't concentrate on anything for long (might have something to do with the morning sickness 🤢) but I did finish this last night!
My Sunday morning involves bacon, Belgian waffles with local crabapple jelly, and my first Beverly Jenkins novel--which I'm loving. #bookandbreakfast #romantsy
My fourth and final #24in48 TBR "stack" is obvs on my kindle. I stocked up on books from my public library (in addition to ones I already had)!
#junebookbugs best of June The best part of June was discovering Beverly Jenkins novels😊
Am at the airport waiting for my vacation to begin, armed with lots of fun vacation reads! It's not a reading vacation, we'll be pretty busy traipsing around France, but I was in the mood for a good light sexy reads lineup. What should I read first?!l #romantsy
Crashed through the Arlington Public Library Book Sale and am feeling very pleased with myself. #TreatYoShelf
In my romances I'm more of a contemporary girl, but when I find an historical writer I like, I'm all over them. Tonight I decided to jump back in and try an author I've not read before.
I've heard Beverly Jenkins on the SBTB podcast and I thoroughly adore her, but wasn't sure how I'd go with books set in the US. Worry over, I LOVED IT. Will def be reading more! #romantsy
Note to self: try more historicals 😃
This book cover probably features the best #muscles (both guy and girl because back muscles 110% count) for day 4 of #aprilbookshowers. I'm really looking forward to reading it- I've heard a lot of good things!
@RealLifeReading
I loved this book! The characters, setting, and story were excellent! It took on some heavy topics but wrapped it all in the pleasing and satisfying story that I enjoy when reading romance! Also this is my most recent audiobook and I loved it in that format so I'm using this for #awesomeaudiobooks #marchintoreading
Read this book after I heard Beverly Jenkins discuss it on a podcast. Have to say that I enjoyed it more than the first book of hers that I read now that I know the research she puts into her books. Didn't hurt that this one was about a time period i had no familiarity with.
When I think of #happyreads I think of romance! It's light, refreshing and you know everything is going to turn out ok! This is next up for romance on my tbr! #marchintoreading
Perfect Valentine's read! 💜This is also my new #LetterF for #LitsyAtoZ made possible by @8little_paws who mailed this to me! The cover made me think it was Harlequin like and would be full of pulsating members and all kinds of other bad sex scenes, but thankfully it was a lovely historical romance with strong, like-able characters set it Old West Nevada. It's a first in a series, too, so I can read more! Thank you @8little_paws 😍
Made soup and continued reading my first Beverly Jenkins romance! Trying to use this month to read romance authors I've been meaning to try for a long time. ❤
Really trying to dig back and not recommend the same books over and over. I saw on Goodreads today that it's romance week. That reminded me of this fantastic romance novel by Beverly Jenkins.
Don't let the cover fool you. 😉

P.S.: Also today's recommendation for #28BlackBooks. Jenkins always brings a history lesson with the sexy times.
I have a bunch of books I want to get to during Black History Month but I'm having a hard time focusing on things with the current state of dumpster fire our country is in so I'm reading my first Beverly Jenkins instead.
Look what came in the mail today! @8little_paws saw that I needed a new "F" book for #LitsyAtoZ so she mailed this to me! Isn't she the sweetest? It's lightweight too, so I will be able to take it on the plane to DC and hopefully my students will let me read. Thank you so much, Karin @8little_paws ?
Book 5 of #24in48 is finished. What a fun historical romance read this was! It takes place out west, and the author's note on what inspired the story is worth the read too. Forbidden fulfills the #ReadHarder2017 category of a book where all POVs are people of color. 💕
What a lovely historical fiction! I was rooting for Rhine and Eddy the whole time. Eddy is so smart and strong and sassy. I thoroughly enjoyed their banter. All of the characters were well developed!
