Happy Saturday and good morning! I started this audiobook with breakfast today and am looking forward to spending lots of time listening while I work around the house today.

Scochrane26 I love this book! 7d
Ruthiella This sounds like a great nonfiction companion to a scifi book I recently read 6d
Daisey @Ruthiella That does sound like an interesting companion read. 6d
Daisey @Scochrane26 I agree; it was fantastic! 6d

I haven‘t had much actual reading time lately, so I caught up yesterday on audio while I took my beagle Luthien for a long rambling walk. “Of the Flight of the Noldor” is heartbreaking to me every time, but it‘s also an amazing story.

This morning I read “Of the Sindar” with breakfast. Here we learn more about Thingol & Melian and meet their daughter Luthien.

Happy Sunday Littens! I‘m so looking forward to rereading this again with a group of readers here. It‘s sometimes a tough read, but I get more out of every reread.

mabell I won‘t be reading along with this one, if you would like to remove me 😊 2mo
mabell PS - Yummy looking breakfast! 2mo
CatLass007 I‘m listening to the audiobook narrated by Derek Jacobi. It doesn‘t have the forward and preface. Should I be concerned about missing something? 2mo
CatLass007 Actually, it‘s not Derek Jacobi. 2mo
Daisey @CatLass007 The main part of the preface is excerpts from a letter that Tolkien wrote to Milton Waldman. You can read about the letter here: https://www.teawithtolkien.com/blog/Letter131 2mo
CatLass007 Thank you. 2mo
JazzFeathers I'm so excited too. It's been some time since last we read it 🤩 2mo

Saturday morning #BreakfastWithTolkien!
I caught up on a few days of poetry reading this morning. It‘s hard to choose which pages to share because these illustrations by Alan Lee are all so amazing! I‘m always amused reading the fun poems supposedly written by hobbits.

#FellowshipOfTolkien #BookAndBreakfast

AllDebooks I'm starting today 3mo
BarbaraJean 😍Thank you for sharing some of the illustrations when you post! I‘m sad I‘m not reading it in print this time around—alas for the need of a digital version while traveling! 3mo
JazzFeathers There are so many great illustration, but this one in the picture, for some reason, is one of my favourite. 3mo

Sunday morning breakfast and reading this weekend‘s letters from Father Christmas. We‘re getting more into the longer story letters, and I love it. These letters introduce the trouble making goblins for the first time, and there are all kinds of illustrations.

#TolkienChristmas #FellowshipOfTolkien #BreakfastWithTolkien #BookAndBreakfast

AnnR I love how the stories become more sophisticated with the polar bear and the troublesome goblins. It makes for better illustrations too. 4mo

AllDebooks This might be my new favourite Christmas book 😍 4mo
Cortg Just got caught up! I love the hieroglyphics. This must have been such a magical letter for these kids 🎅🏼 4mo
BethM The pictures are gorgeous! 4mo
JazzFeathers The middle of the book is simply fantastic. That was the same time Tolkien was telling Bilbo's stories to his children and he was clearly on a roll 😜 4mo

Sunday morning book and breakfast with Tolkien!

I read Book 6 Chapter 7 “Homeward Bound” with breakfast this morning. After several reads, this chapter actually makes me a bit anxious as I just want them to keep moving and get to the Shire. At the same time, I love their visit to Bree and Butterbur‘s reaction to Strider as king.

#LotRChapterADay #FellowshipOfTolkien #BookAndBreakfast #BreakfastWithTolkien

BarbaraJean I felt similarly anxious reading “Many Partings” last night, especially when they encounter Saruman on the road. It‘s foreshadowing, guys! Get a move on! 5mo
Daisey @BarbaraJean Exactly! Saruman talking about the Shire is not a good sign. 5mo

Sunday morning book and breakfast

I‘ve barely ready any of The Two Towers this week and I don‘t have much time this morning. Hoping I can squeeze in a few chapters through the day today.

I had lots going on this past week, so I got a bit behind. By the time I finished breakfast this morning, I‘d reached the point where Strider and the hobbits left Bree for Weathertop. I hope to finish Book 1 later today and flip through the notes in my Reader‘s Companion. One interesting note from my previous reading of HoME, the character that became Strider originally appeared as a hobbit named Trotter.

#BreakfastWithTolkien #BookAndBreakfast

BarbaraJean 😂 A hobbit named Trotter would certainly have lent a very different feel to the narrative! 8mo
Vansa I wonder why he changed the character to Aragorn? I guess to include a man among the Middle Earth races! 8mo

dabbe I'm glad Tolkien turned him into Aragorn; otherwise, I wouldn't have been able to drool over Viggo Mortensen in the movies! 🤩🤩🤩 8mo
JazzFeathers @dabbe 😂😂😂 @Vansa @BarbaraJean But Trotter was a lovely character. I became very attached to him. In fact, up to Rivendell, all the characters were hobbits in the first drafts. In Bree, only.hobbitscas well. 8mo
Daisey @BarbaraJean @Vansa @dabbe @JazzFeathers It was one of the most interesting things to me in reading about the early drafts of the early part of the story. He just appeared and worked himself into the story. I tend to think it started all hobbits as Tolkien was attempting a sequel, and then the characters grew and changed as it became more and more a story of this world he had already written about. 8mo
BarbaraJean @JazzFeathers @Daisey It is so fascinating to think about this whole section being just hobbits. That goes right along with the idea that there‘s far more to hobbits than meets the eye, to have them make their own way to Rivendell without assistance from Aragorn. But I don‘t know if I could get past the name “Trotter”! 8mo
