Gosh this was a tough book to get through. It was trauma after trauma for Dixie. All the trigger warnings, so read with caution.

A pretty good Southern tale, thus far.

Mrs_Organized_Chaos @Amabear a quick portion of the inside cover of The Education of Dixie Dupree says, “Donna Everhart‘s remarkable debut is a story about mothers and daughters, the guilt and pain that pass between generations, and the truths that are impossible to hide, especially from ourselves. 6y
Mrs_Organized_Chaos @Amabear Glimm, A Glimpse of Light Found explores the adventures of tweens and early teens as they uncover everyday mysteries and connections. I picked this one up simply because the author is local to our area. It is written for youth. 6y
Amabear @Mrs_Organized_Chaos I like the sound of glimm! 6y

Started off as a very slow read - I actually had to put it down for some time. When I picked it back up I realized that I had put it down right where it got good! Such a powerfully written book about the strength and resilience of a sexually abused child. A very dark topic portrayed in a slightly different light 👌🏽👌🏽

Don't let this sweet cover fool you; I think this book has every trigger warning possible. The ending was good but man it was hard to get there.

MrBook Nice cover though ☺. 7y

This book has a ton of triggers so beware, but I really liked it. I originally chose it because I had read that the author was from my area. I fell in love with the main character and wanted to be able to save her from all her troubles, but as a reader I was just along for the very bumpy ride.

Pet peeve - it's spelled y'all...not ya'll. Nails on a chalkboard!

annkuch13 Omg! I HATE when books get that wrong! 7y
Titania @annkuch13 Yes! It isn't that hard. Smoosh together you and all and stick an ' where the missing letters were. An insult to a great word. 😁 7y
annkuch13 @Titania Right?! Even if it's not a word you use a lot, it still follows the grammar rules for contractions! 7y

This is the paragraph that grabbed me! If you are a fan of CeeCee (Saving CeeCee Honeycutt) or Starla ( Whistling Past The Graveyard) I highly recommend this one!

I challenged myself to read something completely outside of my comfort zone. As a Southern girl I always balk when someone says I "have" to read a Southern book, but despite my discomfort I'm glad I took the journey. I saw too much of myself on these pages. From the POV of 11-year old Dixie comes a story that shows how dark a family can be, and how finding your way through the world isn't always pretty. Highly recommend if you are in a book club.

Written in flowing, deceptively simple prose, the story of Dixie Dupree is one you won't forget quickly. Covering a wide range of issues: alcoholism, depression, physical abuse, rape, suicide and more. Dixie's voice makes all the difference, adding enough charm and goodness to balance out this dark, captivating debut novel.
