The Book of Pride
The Book of Pride: LGBTQ Heroes Who Changed the World | Mason Funk
7 posts | 3 read | 6 to read
THE BOOK OF PRIDE captures the true story of the gay rights movement from the 1960s to the present, through richly detailed, stunning interviews with the leaders, activists, and ordinary people who witnessed the movement and made it happen. These individuals fought battles both personal and political, often without the support of family or friends, frequently under the threat of violence and persecution. By shining a light on these remarkable stories of bravery and determination, THE BOOK OF PRIDE not only honors an important chapter in American history, but also empowers young people today (both LGBTQ and straight) to discover their own courage in order to create positive change. Furthermore, it serves a critically important role in ensuring the history of the LGBTQ movement can never be erased, inspiring us to resist all forms of oppression with ferocity, community, and, most importantly, pride

This was a great collection of interviews of LGBTQ people of the older generation, documenting their fight for rights and change, big and small. It is a reminder that the LGBTQ community has always been around and a beautiful way to remember their legacy. Each interview was short & easy to listen to and super inspiring

July Nonfiction #ReadingBracket2023
I only managed to finish one nonfiction book last month but it was a good one and probably would have been a top read regardless

It‘s Pride Day here in Bradenton, FL. The “Don‘t Say Gay” Bill is headed to the state Senate on Monday.

I‘m an out and proud gay teacher.
I will be gay.

#pride #gaypride #lgbtq
I will say gay.
I will show my kids (who all know that @BookishMarginalia is my wife) that you can be a happy, LGBTQ+ adult.

“When society as a whole moves beyond treating us ‘nicely‘ to welcoming us with open arms, when we can live openly and fully as who we are, when we can bring our entire grab bag of perspectives, talents, and sensibilities, our slightly jaded, salty sense of humor, our exaggerated mannerisms, our pumping hearts, and our outlaw sexualities - when we can bring all of who we are to the altar of the world, the world will be a better place.”
