The Wind Is Not a River | Brian Payton
14 posts | 10 read | 28 to read
The Wind Is Not a River is Brian Payton's gripping tale of survival and an epic love story in which a husband and wifeseparated by the only battle of World War II to take place on American soilfight to reunite in Alaska's starkly beautiful Aleutian Islands. Following the death of his younger brother in Europe, journalist John Easley is determined to find meaning in his loss. Leaving behind his beloved wife, Helen, he heads north to investigate the Japanese invasion of Alaska's Aleutian Islands, a story censored by the U.S. government. While John is accompanying a crew on a bombing run, his plane is shot down over the island of Attu. He survives only to find himself exposed to a harsh and unforgiving wilderness, known as the birthplace of winds. There, John must battle the elements, starvation, and his own remorse while evading discovery by the Japanese. Alone at home, Helen struggles with the burden of her husband's disappearance. Caught in extraordinary circumstances, in this new world of the missing, she is forced to reimagine who she isand what she is capable of doing. Somehow, she must find John and bring him home, a quest that takes her into the farthest reaches of the war, beyond the safety of everything she knows.

Mehso-so

Also, I liked the title and the USO guy Steven. For a novel about AK during WWII (which is an easy sale to me), I was disappointed. #Alaska #Historicalfiction

The bra company Curvy Kate posted this on Instagram, and I love it 😂 That is some relaxed reading! Also this book is good so far. It‘s fun to read an Alaskan Historic Fiction. Thanks you @Kimberlone for your hoopla use ❤️ #boobs

Kimberlone Haha love it! Let me know how the book is and I might check it out next. My hoopla is your hoopla! 3y

gradcat @Eggs So glad you‘re cancer-free for these past 14 years...I‘m hoping it stays that way! Thanks for the tag—I‘m a bit under the weather and having trouble catching up with things—so I may not get to it. So sorry! ♥️ 4y

@Lmstraubie So cool to see you post your copy of this book for #sideprofiles This is the cover of mine. The story is told from two different perspectives, husband and wife. I guess you have the "wife" cover and I have the "husband" cover. I really like them both.

Lmstraubie @Wife Very interesting! I wonder if they did that for marketing purposes. 7y

Beautifully written, deeply moving novel of love, war, survival and journey. Takes place in Seattle and the Aleutian Islands during WW2. Loneliness was balanced with unexpected friendships, regret and longing with commitment and sacrifice, and loss with reunion.

Laura317 This book sounds amazing! Adding to my list. 8y
DebReads4fun Hope you enjoy it! I loved it! 8y
ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled I enjoyed this book a lot too. I liked the parts in the cave the best. So fascinating. 8y
