Wow. I underestimated this book. I had it checked out of the library forever before I finally read it. It is so powerful and amazing and there were a couple of pages that gave me literal chills. The art enhances the story perfectly. I could just picture this being told out loud and captivating an audience. Fantastic.

Quiet, cosy, meandering, sometimes melancholy, always charming. Another fine yarn from Diane Setterfield - a bit of a shaggy dog story, but the sort you can curl up with and enjoy on a wet afternoon by the fire.

Since I‘m already playing challenge catch-up, I thought I‘d kill 2 prompts with 1 post of The Midwife of Hope #River, a book with plenty of #babies being birthed. I‘m a sucker for a book about a midwife and enjoyed this 2015 read set in Depression-era Appalachia.

Loved this book, and it‘s really all about the river, and the tale involves quite a lot of crying as well.....

Honestly, I liked the premise of this book -- the role of storytelling and how it shapes us. But this was also a book that I could have put down and left unfinished (had I not been desperate to reach the midway point in my Goodreads challenge 🙈). I wish there had been more about the Quietly as well.
