Found this at our local bookstore! Sounds like tough read… have you read it?

#TBR

ChaoticMissAdventures I read all of Morrison's novels last year. Most of them are pretty tough reads - I know this one has some grooming and child abuse in it. But the characters are very rich and interesting. 5mo
TheBookgeekFrau Read it ages ago and really liked it - very thought provoking; and that's all I remember 😂 5mo

To say I enjoyed this would not be accurate, as a main thread of this story is about a pedophile and his child bride, but it is also about female friendship and rivalry, about how a community grows and changes over time and it is all told through the genius of Morrison 's writing

Yesterday was a beautiful taste of spring so I sat outside to finish Love. This Morrison novel explores the impact of one deceased man on his child wife, granddaughter, and daughter-in-law. I found it less about love and more about jealousy and miscommunication. Excellent writing as always.

It feels criminal to give Morrison a mid-rating, but it‘s a given that it‘s beautiful, heartbreaking, interesting as hell. I guess I found it confusing - and I think that was a choice - in ways that frustrated me. Her characters are always so full, filled to the brim. It was a tough read overall and I don‘t necessarily recommend, but I still acknowledge the power the story has.

This book was uneasy in every sense of the word: It made me feel extremely uneasy, it was not easy to follow and it certainly didn‘t offer easy solutions! I‘m not sure i actually liked it, but i don‘t think it‘s meant to be liked. it‘s certainly exemplary for how well Morrison can throw a punch. I‘m very much looking forward to discussing it‘s feminist and BIPOC perspectives at my next book club meeting.

PS: take a look at my #spooktober coffee!

I really enjoyed this story about the people in and around Bill Cosey‘s life. The most intriguing part of the book for me, was the relationship between Christine and Heed. Such a complex relationship between once friends. This is definitely a book I‘ll pick up again. #AuthorAMonth #AAMTM

In life, Bill Cosey enjoyed the affections of many women, who would do almost anything to gain his favor. In death his hold on them may be even stronger. Unique use of a dead character around whom all the women‘s lives revolve! Great setting and historical background.

Her words, her words, her words. I had to rewind some sections to savor the words.

As with all of her work, there is so much to unpack. I'm looking forward to discussing this book with others.

Professional_Book_Dragon I have not read this one but I do agree with you. I love the way she writes and the discussions I get to have about her books. I was so sad the day she passed! 4y

We've been challenged to find the best opening line in one of the books from our #readathon stack. This is is from Love by Toni Morrison, "The womenstlegs are spread wide, so I hum." Umm, I really don't anything about this book so I have no clue where this going...

I have to laugh because @Cinfhen I did have a hissy fit about Litsy not working, and then I thought ‘Thank the powers that be that THIS is my biggest problem in life right now‘ But,my hissy fit posts resulted in some damn good Litsy Love and kindness from virtual strangers when you come right down to it. I‘m overwhelmed and awed and warmed by the concern and help of this community, which actually affirms said hissy fit😁 with love I #BlameItOnLitsy

Toni Morrison is an expert at her craft. Love looks at the life of Bill Cosey, 20 years after he died through the perspectives of those he loved or who loved him. The definition of love, though, is what is examined here, and as the perspectives are explored, love is not necessarily a good thing, nor does it influence good choices or actions. Everything is complicated in this one.

DrSabrinaMoldenReads Wow! I love your book choices and reviews! 6y

I have to admit this book lost me a bit at the beginning.. clippings from the past mixed into the present and characters who I couldn't exactly place on the genealogical tree until halfway into the novel made this a slower read. However, the constant jaw-dropping revelations and the ending make this another of Toni Morrison's incredible stories. The lives of different women revolving around the ghostly presence of Bill Cosey - a mystery to all.

Cathythoughts I recently finished Sula. She is one master story teller ✨✨✨ 6y

Although it is not my fav Morrison novel so far, I am really enjoying it. And it's #ToMo - so ALWAYS worth the read. It is bothering me how little time I have to devote to it though. Feels like it is taking me forever to get through it. #recommendsday #tonimorrison #readthemall!

You know your attention span has been zapped by work when you have to keep alternating between Toni Morrison and The Rocky Horror Picture Show to keep yourself occupied. #strangebedfellows

As a side note, can't wait until the 2018 #StratfordFestivalCanada stage version of Rocky Horror. Love love LOVE that they are doing such a range of classic to cult classic now ❤
