A frustrating book! Frustrating because it's like an unfinished sculpture: inside there is a true fantasy classic, where dreamy depictions of the spirit world lay aside comical satire of a community in the grip of 'progress', yet undone by greed and thirst for power. But there needs to be 100-200 pages chiseled away from neverending scenes of partying, fighting, more partying, more fighting, dragging on indefinitely.

A really tedious read. The characters were underdeveloped, the adjectives used to create the atmosphere were too many and the story, quite pointless.

The premise of this book had so much potential, but in the end, dismally fell short.

Liked this to start with but I was distracted away from it and it‘s a shame because I‘ve heard it has an amazing ending. Hard to pick up again though....

I received an eARC copy of The Famished Road from Open Road Integrated Media via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Beautiful & unique with a magical feel that drags in places. I appreciated it, but I didn‘t love everything about it. It's definitely a story that you need to sit & contemplate while reading & after you finish it. Definitely recommended to those who enjoy reading literature and books that require thought.

I know some people who couldn't manage 500 pages of this book. I loved it. The language, though plentiful at times is stunning and the ultimate message is utterly important!
The language makes the devastating moments in this book easier to read and absorb.
If you can't manage to read the whole thing. Read Section Three - Book Eight. It may help to convince you!

The spirit child is an unwilling adventurer into chaos and sunlight, into the dreams of the living and the dead.

Has anyone read this? It sounds interesting and the price is right.

Look what arrived in the mail today via Amazon from a woman in Russia who I don't know. The first book I received as part of the Facebook book exchange, and not only have I not read it, but it looks wonderful!

I have bought books at McKays Used Books, in Manassas, VA. If I still lived near here, I'd just sign my paycheck over to them.

Not even half way through but the mystical, potent cadence Okri is dishing out is unbeatable.
