Whew! @Chrissyreadit challenged me to identify my top 10 (ish) favorite sci fi / fantasy novels. Impossible. This list is my current mood, responsive. But I had to exclude books that are definitely also favorites in this genre! Like Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell or City of Saints & Madmen or LOTR.. or others!!! 😁😁 But here are 13, anyway...

Books that are first in series are representative of the series (avail so far). 😁🌌🔮💜

You wanna play?

Avanders Oops. Edited Bc Night Film is not sci-fi / fantasy.. 😬 3y
LibrarianRyan Yeah yeah yeah. @chrissy tagged me to. I promise I will. 😜 3y
Avanders @LibrarianRyan lol 😁😁 can‘t wait! 3y

Chrissyreadit I love your picks- because I have several on my real life TBR- I‘m putting Nyxia and Queen of Tearling on top- I will read them before April ends! (March is all about studying) 3y
Avanders @Chrissyreadit 👏🏽👏🏽 I really hope you enjoy them 🤗 also, if you happen to do audiobooks, Nyxia is perfect for audio. 😁 3y
Chrissyreadit Oh- I‘m ordering The Fold now- it not only sounds like a book I would like it sounds like a book Owen and my friend Sytil would like. 3y
Avanders Ooh fun!! I loved that one. But ... heh, I guess I‘d say that for every book on this 😂 Hope you all like it! 🤗😘 3y
MommyOfTwo Oooo there are a few on there that I really enjoyed! 3y
Pogue I love Moonheart and Bone Gap. 3y

BethM @Chrissyreadit The Fold is amaze balls. @Avanders what is the yellow one? 3y
Chrissyreadit @BethM so I totally need to get it don‘t I?!?!? 3y
BethM @Chrissyreadit you do! I listened to the audio and that‘s good too. 3y
Avanders @MommyOfTwo @pogue I think some of these came from various mail book groups we‘ve been in 😁😘 @DaveGreen7777 @TheSpineView 🙌🏽😘🌌🔮 @TK421 now that you mention it... I want to, too! @SamHeartCoffee yay! 😘♥️ (and so many more to still add, right?!) @readordierachel I‘m so happy it gets some love around here! ♥️😘 3y
Avanders @BethM I *love* that book... it was my first Matt Ruff and just... 🤯🤩 But it‘s weird, apparently... at least that‘s what some people tell me 😜 On the other hand, there was rumor Margot Robbie (is that her name?) was going to produce and star in it... so I can‘t be all wrong 😜😁 3y
MommyOfTwo Nyxia was my pick for SFMBC. I still need to read the third one. 3y

Mehso-so

I love bits of this book. The parts that follow Sara and Kiernan, Taliesin, Pudjwik, and the house are amazing. I was frustrated by the government plot and much less invested in the other characters

#toptenofthedecade
I included books I *read* (not necessarily published) in the past decade.

Of course this was ridiculously challenging, but I used my “favorites” shelf in Goodreads 😊. I also added 2 runners-up, at the end. And I cant‘t pick a single favorite, but I sure did esp love the tagged book. ... and all the others shown here. 😂

Years 1st read, in order: 2015, 2014, 2015, 2018, 2019, 2013, 2016, 2019, 2019, 2019, 2010, 2015

umbrellagirl I liked Slade House. I just passed it on to a friend. 4y
marleed There is no excuse for my copy of Maybe You Should Talk to Someone to sit unread on my nightstand when so many Littens love this. Dang - it‘s at my fingertips! 4y
Avanders @umbrellagirl nice! I passed on several copies to friends a couple years ago... it wasn‘t what I was expecting, but for me, in such a pleasing way. 😁 Same for me with 4y

I missed the official full moon, but if werewolf rules apply then tonight will still work. 🐺
1. I have tried to be closer and more understanding with my family. My wife (@cobwebmoth) and kids are really awesome and supportive people. They deserve me at my best.
2. Self doubt and a general feeling of unworthiness.

1. An hour from everywhere Ohio.
2. I had never read a Stephen King novel until last year. The Dark Tower series has me hooked.
3. "Stacks and stacks of racks on racks."
4. Couch
5. Moonheart by Charles de Lint
It has Vikings, wizards, magic houses, time travel, bikers, ancient curses, indigenous American Elves, a dark army of evil creatures, and a legendary traveling bard from King Arthur's court.

Used bookstore Charles de Lint haul. I got all 3 for 9 bucks! 👌

de Lint is an excellent urban fantasy writer and I've slowly been trying to get all his books. Finding these 3 that I don't already have made this humpday a joy! 🤘🤘

minkyb That is a great feeling! 6y

Pickpick

I just finished listening (primarily) to Moonheart. I loved it so much. It is involved and profound and fascinating and nostalgic and enrapturing and was just the perfect thing for me just right now. I cannot believe there's no movie or tv series of this book for me to watch now. What do I read next?! This is one of those books where you feel like nothing else is going to satisfy you that same way for a while.
💖💖💖💖💖

Pogue Spirits in the Wire by de Lint. It is about the Wordwood, and it is amazing. I am so glad you like de Lint. I think he is is underrated. (edited) 6y
Avanders @Pogue thank you!! 🤗🤗 6y
Pogue You‘re welcome. There is an order to the books if you want to read them that way. Goggle can tell you. 6y

Avanders @Pogue oh good to know - I'll keep an eye out for that ☺️ And I agree - de Lint is underknown! 6y
Craftylikefox I am so glad you love De Lint. I keep trying to get people to read him. I started with his short story collections Moonlight and Vines and Dreams Underfoot are just a couple of my favorites 😊 6y
Rudis Another de Lint fan! If you‘re looking for a sampling of his work, he put out a The Very Best of Charles de Lint a few years ago, and The Wind in his Heart is his newest book. (edited) 6y
Avanders @Craftylikefox @Rudis Awesome thanks for all the suggestions! I have the Best of, and I'm about halfway through... need to get back to it! 6y

A couple of my shelves. I'm a terrible housekeeper. 😅🤓😇

bates_barb Me too. I mentioned somewhere else recently (I've now forgotten where) that I very clearly remember my mum's older sister coming to visit when I was a kid and remarking that she thought it was just delightful mum could be such a 'casual housekeeper'. Passive-aggressive though it may be, that phrase has stuck with me, and I use it for myself, since I inhereted my mum's indifference to cleaning and decorating 7y
tracyrowanreads @bates_barb I like that phrase. I may swipe it for myself. 7y

While I absolutely love Nova Scotia, I also love and miss Ottawa wholeheartedly. We lived there for 6 years, and so many things we love are still there (friends, family, amazing food). I used to live in the neighbourhood this book takes place in, and actually read this the first time while I lived there. #setinabelovedlocation #17booklove @jess.how

mllemay I didn't know you lived in Ottawa! That's where I'm from :) 7y
sherryvdh @mllemay I did! I moved to NS in 2009, but I go back to Ottawa and visit as much as I can. 7y
mllemay @sherryvdh that's cool! If we're ever in Ottawa at the same time, we should do a Litsy meetup! 7y

CouronneDhiver I miss living in Ottawa... such a great city! 🇨🇦 7y
KassKho @sherryvdh and @mllemay didn't realize I would find people from Ottawa on Litsy! I don't live there anymore since I moved to Montreal but I visit my family there often enough! I'm curious what part of Ottawa does the book cover? 7y
mllemay @KassKho I didn't think I would find people from Ottawa on here either, but it turns out there are a few of us! 7y
sherryvdh @KassKho It's around the Glebe area. 7y
