Sace I really like the cover for The Passion. 4y
OriginalCyn620 📚😐📚 4y
eeclayton @Sace I agree it looks nice, but it didn't hold my attention. I actually read (or rather, DNFed) another edition, if I remember correctly (it was a library book). 4y

I feel like I‘ve been reading this book forever and I‘m only at 48%...part of me is tempted to bail, but it‘s my #ReadingEurope2020 #Portugal selection😰

jenniferw88 I've just looked at my #Portugal choice to see if it was short for you, but it's 592 pages! 😂😜🤔😘 4y
BarbaraBB You can already count it for Portugal. I know I would 😉😘 4y
Velvetfur Aaww I really love this book! What is it that you're not enjoying about it? Is the pace a bit too slow...? 😊 4y

Cinfhen Thanks @jenniferw88 😂and THANK YOU 🙏🏼 @BarbaraBB This is my bedside read so I guess it‘s a combination of the meandering/ philosophical writing mixed with my tiredness that‘s making this book feel so laborious @Velvetfur It‘s not a bad book but it‘s just SOOOO metaphysical 4y
Velvetfur @Cinfhen Ah OK, I see what you mean 👍 I was just curious, thank you for your insight 😊 4y
marleed Oh I know what you mean about a night side read. I‘ve discovered I like short stories at my bedside. Those same stories I race though in daylight I slowly absorb over days and weeks at night. 4y
Cinfhen I thought a slow deep read would be perfect for bedtime....you know put me to sleep....which it actually does @marleed @Velvetfur and that‘s probably why it‘s taking FOREVER to read🥱😴🥴 4y
Hooked_on_books You can always go with a Saramago book. Lots to choose from and most aren‘t long. Blindness is probably the best know and is fantastic. 4y
suzie.reads I really struggled with my Portugal read, it took me ages! Hope you get through it. 4y
rachaich I bailed on the tagged book... it didn't work for me. Blindness is absolutely brilliant 😊😊 4y
Crazeedi @Cinfhen I started this book months ago, and it's still unfinished. I heard how good it was, but I couldn't get interested, I've picked it up 3 times and read some, then put down. I need to work on my unfinished books stack! 4y
Cinfhen Thanks so much for the suggestions @Hooked_on_books I‘m going to see what I can find xx 4y
Cinfhen I‘m glad to hear it‘s not only me @rachaich @Crazeedi @suzie.reads reading a book shouldn‘t feel like a chore🙄but at this point I feel sort of “invested” 4y
Cinfhen I found a whole bunch of titles on #Hoopla 👍🏻thanks @Hooked_on_books 4y
Hooked_on_books You‘re welcome! Hopefully one will work for you. 🤞🏼 4y
Breanne1 Removing this from my to be bought pile! 4y
Cinfhen I hope you‘re not missing out @Breanne1 It just wasn‘t for me but the writing was really poetic ~ it‘s just a bit endless 🥺 4y

#Two4Tuesday @TheSpineView
Thanks for the tag @BarbaraTheBibliophage

1. I just started reading the tagged book for #ReadingEurope2020 ~ it‘s good
2. Nope!!! But I‘m getting really good at reading menus in Hebrew ☺️

Tagging some friends who I know read in other languages @AnneCecilie @Kalalalatja @BarbaraBB @Simona @HannaPolkadots

TheSpineView Wow.... Hebrew! Awesome! Thanks for playing! 😊 4y
AnneCecilie I own the tagged book, and have for ages. Maybe I too will use it for Portugal, not sure what other book I can use, especially as long as the library is closed 4y
BarbaraTheBibliophage That challenge definitely works in a lot of translated books! And yes, I suppose reading menus in Hebrew is a necessity for you! 4y
See All 7 Comments
Cinfhen Most places offer an English menu but the Hebrew menu is more precise and descriptive @BarbaraTheBibliophage also some restaurants rely on Google Translate for their menus and sometimes we need to decipher the English 😆😊 4y
Cinfhen It‘s a slow read @AnneCecilie but I‘m taking my time and reading a few chapters before bed 😴 4y
AnneCecilie @Cinfhen I don‘t have anywhere else to be at the moment so.... and I would get a book of the tbr. I think I bought it in the 2000s. 4y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Cinfhen I get it. Reminds me of being in France last year! 4y

#ReadingEurope2020 #Portugal Free from #KindleUnlimited / a book that‘s been on my TBR for a long time and I see that it‘s a favorite of @Velvetfur ♥️ 🇵🇹

Velvetfur Oohh it became one of my favourite books ever, as soon as I'd read it! Have you already started reading it? I'd love to know what you think! 😁 4y
Cinfhen Yes, I started reading and I was surprisingly hooked @Velvetfur it‘s quirky and melancholy but I‘m intrigued 4y

Just starting this book. Has anyone read this? Impression if you have?

zezeki I've read it some 5-6 years ago. Now I don't remember many details of it 😅 but I know that at the time I absolutely loved it. I hope to reread it someday to see if I will feel the same. 6y
Crazeedi @zezeki thanks! I'm only a chapter in, but it seems like it's going to be a good one. I'll post when done! 6y
zezeki @Crazeedi I'm really curious to hear your opinion when done. 😊 6y

Sounds interesting, has anyone read it?

#kindledeal #kindledeals #ebooksale

KathyWheeler I read it and remember liking it but it‘s been a long time. (edited) 6y
Louise I‘ve seen the movie. It‘s quiet and thoughtful; and I remember thinking that the book must have a lot of interior monologue in it, which was palpably missing in the movie. My guess is that the book is far better, though the images are nice in the film. 6y

#TBRtemptation post 6! This book became a major international bestseller. Raimund teaches Latin at a Swiss school when he meets a woman and starts a new life in Portugal. He takes with him a book by a doctor called Prado. Obsessed with it, he investigates in Lisbon the author's life, and a picture of a man who defied a dictator emerges. #blameLitsy #blameMrBook 😎

"We leave something of ourselves behind when we leave a place, we stay there, even though we go away. And there are things in us that we can find again only by going back there."

Texreader Yes I agree with this quote so very much. I mourn a beautiful old mansion up in Westchester county, NY where I interned for several years studying economics. I hear it's been torn down and it breaks my heart I'll never walk those endearing halls, its library, its basement ever again. 😓 8y
Lilitherat Beautiful quote! 8y
Sweettartlaura @Texreader which mansion? I'm from the Hudson Valley 😊 8y

Texreader @Sweettartlaura It was the home of the economic think tank called FEE in Irvington on Hudson. Beautiful place and grounds. 8y
Sweettartlaura @Texreader I'll have to look that one up. If you're interested, you can follow AbandonedHudsonValley on Instagram. It keeps me updated on a lot of these old places in that neck of the woods. 8y

I've read this book twice. The first time it blew me away. The second time, I loved it a little more quietly. Isn't it weird how your own life constantly interferes in your experience of a story?

Very little happens in Night Train to Lisbon. It's an emotional journey. It's really quite lovely.

OSChamberlain It's like how everyone says reading King Lear before you have children is drastically different from reading it after you've had children. 8y
becausetrains I love the picture 🚂🚞🤓 but I have a feeling I'd love the book for entirely non-train reasons. On my TBR it goes! 8y
ElizabethSensa I've added it to my TBR list. Thank you! 8y

It took a few days but I've finished book three for #bookisholympics! The middle was a little slow, but this Classics professor's trip to Lisbon to discover the life of Amadeu de Prado was interesting.
