Thanks to @batsy who put the author into my radar. I couldn‘t find ‘Arthur Who Wrote Sherlock‘ but found the tagged book instead. This is an illustrated biography of Mary Shelly, adapted for children. It tells of the early life of Mary, and how ‘Frankenstein‘ was written. An inspiring story for young readers (and readers of any age) with great illustrations that complement the story.

This was another 5 star read this year. Outstanding picture book about Mary Shelley. Very informative and very cool art.

A bio of Mary Shelley and the birth of her famous novel, in the form of a picture book! The art is absolutely gorgeous. The writing is quite lovely and poetic. Highly recommend for Mary Shelley fans of any age.

What a cool picture book biography! I loved the illustrations, it really worked for the Gothic feel of Mary‘s life. It‘s very limited, in time and in scope (hey, there was a lot of sex stuff in Mary‘s life, and this is a kids‘ book), but it works. Good lead-in to Mary‘s Monster, a great YA bio-in-verse with gloriously dark illustrations.

Frankenstein continues to be such a relevant story 200 years after it was written. I‘m listening to The Golem and the Jinni and partly because they are ‘creations‘ and partly because the narrator‘s voice reminds me of when I listened to Frankenstein, I have Frankenstein on the brain a lot. I grabbed this GORGEOUS story about Mary Shelley from the library today. It talks about her life and how she was inspired to write her gothic tale

Loved the illustrations in this picture book.

It is also so touching and a bit heartbreaking that Mary Shelley would sit at her mother‘s grave to read. #NFNov

This picture book tells the story of Mary Shelley‘s life although it ends with her writing Frankenstein.

There is a four page Author‘s Note at the back that talks about her life after the novel, but it doesn‘t go into great detail. It is the fantastic moody illustrations that make this book. I‘ll post a separate blurb of an interior illustrations.

I read the translated edition in French published by La Pastèque.
The illustrations are amazing. A pinch of weird, a pinch of drama, a pinch of suspense all mashed up to make the reader seek out the details of the background, the expressions of the characters. The story of Mary Shelley's life and how she wrote Frankenstein and launching science-fiction lit into the world is well done.

#MarchIntoThe70s Day 13: #HighwayToHell reminded me of this picturebook biography of how a monster was made and conceived by the Mother of Science Fiction. It is fascinating how Frankenstein‘s birth was inspired by being among like-minded individuals, who lived by their own rules and defied social conventions. Came home to this awesome surprise from the husband.

I can‘t remember who it was but another Litten posted a pic of her LEGO Frankenstein and Mary Shelley and I showed my husband. I can‘t believe he remembered and got me my own! Now I need Mary Shelley.

I read this on Feb 3 & gave it 5 ⭐️. This book is gorgeous. It leans towards being gothic in tone but it‘s beautiful and it doesn‘t oversimplify Shelley‘s life.

First things first. The illustrations are amazing. I hope it gets nominated for a Caldecott, but i can see judges saying the illustrations are too dark. Of course they are, we are talking about Shelley and Frankenstein. This is a picture book biography about Mary and what brought her to write the most famous monster ever. It‘s well done, entertaining and informative.

The illustrations alone are worthy of a 5-star rating. Thankfully, the text is equally worthy in this introduction to Mary Shelley‘s life and masterpiece. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Such a beautiful children's book covering key events in Mary Shelley's life that led to her inspiration for the most enduring classic horror novel in history. The illustrations are both haunting and beautiful, adding an incredible dimension to this gothic story.
