"You are aware that I have some proficiency in the good old British sport of boxing. Occasionally it is of service. To-day, for example, I should have come to very ignominious grief without it -
He had a very fine flow of language, and his adjectives were very vigorous. He ended a string of abuse by a vicious back-hander, which I failed to entirely avoid. The next few minutes were delicious. It was a straight left against a slogging ruffian." ??

Bookwomble I love Doyle's use of euphemism and understatement in this passage, and, of course, his rare portrayal of an actively pugilistic Holmes sending a bounderly cad home in a cart! 7mo

Mehso-so

This case was not very sherlocky. Not a big mystery, basically just a little chase and saving the woman in distress. I guessed the bad intention early on.⠀

#Sherlocked

JazzFeathers The weakest so far, in my opinion. 6y

Pickpick

Oh, Watson, just because it‘s common doesn‘t mean it‘s ok.

A much more satisfactory ending than the last story, although it was a close call. What do you think of Holmes almost not making it in time?

#Sherlocked

Daisey This has been my least favorite of this collection so far. I just felt like hardly anything happened through the whole story. I also wanted more from the female character, and although I try to remember time of writing, this one just didn‘t have enough other good points to balance it out. 6y
jpmcwisemorgan @Daisey I think that the stories written after Sherlock‘s “death” suffer because Doyle has killed Sherlock off for a reason and then had to bring him back. 6y
CSeydel @jpmcwisemorgan I think that‘s it exactly. The author had really done all he could with the character, but readers wanted him back, so ... why turn away money, right? And the stories are good, just not great, as some of the earlier ones were. 6y

Next story in the #Sherlocked readalong. I need to post my thoughts on the last two stories! Oops.

Richryan52 This is a great story and shows Holmes at the top of his game 6y
GlassAsDiamonds I keep seeing your posts & going “I have no memory of this Holmes!!!” Missed this boat I think but may need a re-read. 😊😊😊 6y
jpmcwisemorgan @GlassAsDiamonds I think that‘s because these are the ones after he “died” and they don‘t get as much attention. I don‘t think some of the compilation books contain them or they‘re in a second book. I‘m not as familiar with this round of stories. @Richryan52 I‘m looking forward to reading it again! 6y

Richryan52 I love the deductions Holmes makes at the beginning. 6y
Daisey These stories are definitely ones I‘ve heard less about, and I also really enjoyed the beginning of this one. 6y
Daisey @GlassAsDiamonds You could join in any time! 6y
GlassAsDiamonds @Daisey what are the timelines? 6y
jpmcwisemorgan @GlassAsDiamonds @Daisey I don‘t have a full sized image to use to repost but it might be worth doing since we‘re mid-month??? 6y
