Poor Adelina. First she survives -yet so scarred- from the mysterious fever that claimed her mother, gave her unknown powers and turned her father abusive to her. Now she is on death row for said dangerous (misunderstood) powers. Where will this book take her?

LibrarianRyan This book is so good. Read it with a tween book club. Spent the entire first session discussing mistress vs wife and why she ran away. Not what I had planned, but you go where the kids need to go. 1mo

Oh it‘s nice to read something that grips you from the beginning until the end. I‘ve been wanting to read more of Marie Lu‘s books, and enjoyed this one. It was a bit bleak in some places and the characters motivations were very hard to pin down. I will be picking up the others. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I enjoyed this one a lot- and that ending! I just wish I knew someone at home that I could talk to about everything that happened (happily though, the internet exists). Luckily, the next book was available in the library so I didn't have to wait for "The Rose Society"! Bookworm's dream!!!

LibrarianRyan I know that ending! I really need to get my hands on book 2 3mo

The darkness of Adelina really reels you into the story! I enjoyed this book a lot, and it met a lot of the expectations, since Marie Lu's Legend series was absolute perfection! This was quite different and so interesting because there were three POVs, and you really get to see the insides of the characters at a glimpse. The suspense and action is so breathtaking and I LOVED IT!

While not my favorite series from Marie Lu I still thoroughly enjoyed this series, especially this book. The plot kept me guessing and I found something in each character I could relate to. I don‘t think this book is for everyone but if you like revenge, magic and strong female characters I‘d highly recommend this book!

I was going through a very tough time and I was not coping well with my anxiety. All good now, except work always keeping me busy. Reading is always what keeps me going on but I had to take a break from social medias. I missed Litsy. Will try to pop-up more here.

I spent most this book mad at Adelina. I‘m accustomed to badass female leads these days but I think she might develop into one. My hopes are high. I liked the way her powers worked and the danger within them. Now I just gotta wait for my library to send me book 2 and 3. This one was a bit of a disappointment for me. I liked the world that Lu created, and I will never get tired of stories about a band of characters oppressed because of their secret powers.

Buuutt... I just never really connected with any particular character. I felt like I didn‘t know who to root for. I also found the changing perspectives was not very effective for this story. (The narration was not my fave either, unfortunately.)

As I said in other posts, I didn't like Marie Lu's books. That was until now, because I loved The Young Elites! The plot is amazing and the characters are even more so! I'm not done with it yet, actually finding it hard to finish. There is no character that I actually want 'win'. I actually want the entire cast of characters to end up killing each other and some other group take over their country. I'm sure I should have sympathy for the main character, she obviously has PTSD and is mentally ill, but there is nothing redemptive about her. Even her care for her sister is something she *should* feel.

I am loving this!!! I'm surprised because I did not like so much the other books of the author. I actually hated the Legend trilogy. But this one... Wow! I keep reading and need more and more. I just hope there's no romance, or at least that it makes some sense. I hated all the romances Marie Lu has written 💔

So the narration wasn't great, the voices annoyed me. However, the story was so good, I kept listening. Adelina is such a troubled character, she made me feel sympathetic and fearful at the same time. The idea of young people having powers reminded me of X-Men...if X Men was set in Ancient Rome.

Third time was the charm for reading this one that I'd attempted a few years ago. Still darker & more violent than I like my YA but the world building & characters have me interested enough to continue the series. Teens left with scary strong powers after a plague, fighting against persecution and nefarious rulers. The quotes beginning the chapters seem based on historical documents authored by main characters. Intriguing. #mommyreads #ya #fantasy
