I read “The Truth About Forever” for the first time when I was seventeen. I loved it just as much then as I do now, on the eve of my 30th birthday.

I love the writing style, the well-written characters, the emotion behind the storylines and romances. Wes is still one of my all-time favorite book boyfriends. Most of all, I love how reading any of Sarah Dessen‘s books is just like coming home.

The first Dessen book I ever read and the last one before I start on her newest book.
In the beginning, at least for me, it was difficult. It brought back so many memories of my own personal losses I found myself tearing up at times. But “The first step is always the hardest”. Towards the end it‘s cheesy, and predictable, but I still love it. Big fan of cheese 🧀.

I remember why this book spoke to me as a kid. I lost my grandfather in February of my Fifth Grade year. Since then I‘ve also lost my Aunt. Just like Macey I‘ve hated the condolences and all I wanted to do was grieve in anger and silence. I also hated events that led to both deaths, especially my Aunts‘. Not gonna lie, I did tear up. I haven‘t even finished the first chapter, I‘m excited to see where this book will take me.

So I saved this book as one of the last books before I started on Once and For All, because this is the first Dessen book I ever read. A gift from my parents after the Fifth Grade Ceremony. I remember loving the book, and have read it many times over the years. After reading through almost all her works, I wonder if my views will change?

Avidreader25 @readinginthedark It was my first time trying her work. Is there another you would recommend? 7mo
readinginthedark This one is probably my favorite...maybe with This Lullaby or Just Listen second? I haven't read her last book, but I love all the others. Dreamland may be the most unique. It's very sad--one of her earlier books. 7mo

This is Sarah Dessen - she is my favorite YA author.

Sarah‘s all time favorite book, from my online research is A Prayer For Owen Meany by John Irving, which I‘ve never read.

My favorite book of Sarah‘s is probably The Truth About Forever. But I really do love all her books!!

SamanthaMarie Love Sarah Dessen, too. Keeping the Moon is my favorite. 13mo

Dolly These emojis are fun to try to interpret. It looks like you ate a taco that made you sick so you went to bed. 1y
readinginthedark @Dolly Aren‘t they fun? 😆And to answer your question, yes and no! I did eat a taco and felt sick later and went to bed early. The part before and between those is driving two hours for a doctor appt. Whether or not the taco caused the sickness is unclear. 1y

A small stack of books that feature #kidsinlove. It amuses me that I love YA as an adult because as an actual teen there was no way I would have been caught reading anything even remotely close to these titles. #decdays

cariashley Ha so true for me too! I only read classics as a teen, guess I wanted to grow up faster, now I‘d rather be young 😜 2y
Cinfhen As a teen I was SOOOO into all the angst and "passion" I devoured those books but nowadays I have VERY little patience for YA. Maybe raising teens was enough angst for my lifetime ?? 2y
Reggie It‘s funny I think, as a teenager I was done with Disney endings and I wanted the hard endings and suffering. But now, maybe we all see things later that make us yearn again for happy and hope. 2y

After her father's death, Macy deals with her grief by stuffing her feelings away and pretending that she is fine. She has a "perfect" boyfriend and pushes herself to be flawless enough to deserve him.

When Jason leaves for summer "Brain Camp," Macy feels lost, but soon finds herself working for Wish Catering, where she finds new friends and a sense of connection that helps her finally begin to work through her grief.

Moving and hopeful.

This was one of my favorites as a teenager, so when I found it in our local used bookstore this weekend I thought it would be the perfect book to fulfill the "read a book that you read before and loved" on the Popsugar Reading Challenge. While my tastes have definitely changed since 15 (this is such a fun cotton candy read), I really respect Sarah Dessen for making a readable YA novel that can still bring me joy.

heyitsMacall I'm trying the popsugar challenge too! Have you found a steampunk book? Have you found a book from a genre you've never heard of? 2y
