Fellow Travelers
Fellow Travelers: A Novel | Thomas Mallon
9 posts | 3 read | 2 to read
It's 1950s Washington, D.C.: a world of bare-knuckled ideology and secret dossiers, dominated by personalities like Richard Nixon, Lyndon Johnson, and Joe McCarthy. Enter Timothy Laughlin, a recent college graduate and devout Catholic eager to join the crusade against Communism. An encounter with a handsome State Department official, Hawkins Fuller, leads to Tim's first job and, after Fuller's advances, his first love affair. As McCarthy mounts a desperate bid for power and internal investigations focus on sexual subversives in the government, Tim and Fuller find it ever more dangerous to navigate their double lives. Moving between the diplomatic world of Foggy Bottom and NATO's front line in Europe, Fellow Travelers is a searing historical novel infused with political drama, unexpected humor, and genuine heartbreak. From the Trade Paperback edition.

Wow! This book is wonderful and heartbreaking and strangely appropriate given the shenanigans going on in the current political climate. This has been in my TBR list for ages but the new Showtime production with Matt Bomer and Jonathan Bailey bumped it up the list. I can already tell the show is taking liberties to expand the story beyond the book, but I think each are worthwhile in their own right. Excellent portrait of DC during McCarthyism.

2. Myrtle beach or Disney World

Wow, this is the largest swap that I have participated in yet on #Litsy. So many places I have visited and so many I am excited to visit for the first time. Thank you everyone for taking the time to write your postcards, I‘ll be checking out the books you have all mentioned. Big thanks to @Kaye for organizing, can‘t wait to do this again! 🤗 #litsypostandswap

Kaye So glad they arrived safely. These swaps are so much fun, aren‘t they ? A little bit of money, and a personalized item from each player, including possible new books or authors to try ! ✨✨✨. @BookishBlonde12 6y
