Rise of the Earth Dragon: A Branches Book (Dragon Masters #1)
Rise of the Earth Dragon: A Branches Book (Dragon Masters #1) | Tracey West

The DRAGON MASTERS series is "How to Train Your Dragon" meets the DRAGON SLAYERS' ACADEMY! This series is part of Scholastic's early chapter book line called Branches, which is aimed at newly independent readers. With easy-to-read text, high-interest content, fast-paced plots, and illustrations on every page, these books will boost reading confidence and stamina. Branches books help readers grow! DRAGON MASTERS has it all! Dragons, a Dragon Stone, a king, a wizard, and magic! In the first book in this fully-illustrated series, 8-year old Drake is snatched up by King Roland's soldier and taken to the castle. He is to be trained as a Dragon Master. At the castle, he is joined by three other young Dragon Masters-in-training: Ana, Rori, and Bo. The Dragon Masters must learn how to connect with and train their dragons--and they must also uncover their dragons' special powers. Does Drake have what it takes to be a Dragon Master? What is his dragon's special power?

Very cute. Just short enough we could read it together in one sitting at bedtime.

Finished reading this book to our six year old and it was a hit. A perfect early chapter book while he transitions into chapter books. There were enough pictures to keep him engaged but not so many that he could figure out the whole story through them. He isn't a kid who loves reading so the fact that this book captures his attention is great for us! Hopefully he can read them himself one day. We've already started book number 2.

TheKidUpstairs My 7 year old LOVES this series. He mostly likes NF, fact based stuff, this is the first fiction series to really capture his imagination. 14mo
Jess861 @TheKidUpstairs Sounds exactly like our guy! He loves non-fiction and this is really the only fiction series (or even book) he's been interested in. 14mo
Tamra My kids loved this series and when I showed the pic to my 15 year old he smiled. 😁 14mo

Jess861 @Tamra Oh that makes my heart melt! 14mo
Tamra @Jess861 funny thing is they have really never cared for fantasy type books/stories, but they definitely enjoyed this series. We read it aloud for a number of years. 14mo
Jess861 @Tamra Although it is fantasy - I feel like most kids fiction is. I think it's more just a start in fiction with the early chapter books. 14mo
JohnLAndBenji This reminded me of a children‘s book that I loved, it‘s Dragon rider by Cornelia Funke. I only read the first book in the series, but to this day I vaguely remember enjoying it back then, so your kid might like it. (edited) 14mo

We read the last 3 chapters of this tonight, and it was definitely a hit! They wanted to go back and look at all the pictures again before bed... I think we‘ll be starting book 2 very soon! #raisingreaders

I got this dragon book from the library thinking it was something my 5 year old son would enjoy me reading to him. Imagine my surprise when 3 year old Nina is absolutely OBSESSED! She has been completely riveted every night this week, asks me to read it at bedtime, begs for another chapter each time I stop... I think I've got a fantasy fan on my hands! 😁😁😁 #raisingreaders

My 4yo was so excited when his brother came back from the library (and piano class) with the third book in the Dragon Masters. The boys wanted to take a photo with the books.

Putting in some reading time before school (although for the 4yo it's more of a looking at pictures time)
