This book had little plot, and the MC was pretty unpleasant and selfish. This being semi-autobiographical makes me wonder if F. Scott Fitzgerald had any regrets or if this was just a recollection of his youth, fictionalized to a degree.

This served as an interesting time capsule; life in the 1920s seems so far removed from 2025, but at the same time, it's still very similar in a lot of ways.

I aim to finish this book today, so far it's been very interesting

And he could not tell why the struggle was worth while, why he had determined to use to the utmost himself and his heritage from the personalities he had passed. . .

My favorite almost-pick of the year? Fitzgerald's inventive writing saves this story of a Princeton student 'finding himself' from being boring. But it also seems meandering and uneven - not like Gatsby at all in that respect. For all the strangeness of the lost social norms of the period, it's crazy to me how similar the mc's character is to a contemporary college intellectual dude. @Cinfhen @BarbaraBB

I've never read anything else by Fitzgerald except the one we all read. While that novel is about someone looking back on his youth, his debut is about a young scholar who's looking ahead to his future with great zeal as he attends Princeton. Nas must have had a similar perspective when he made his debut album Illmatic, and I thought The World Is Yours is perfect for the theme. @Cinfhen @BarbaraBB

Fitzgerald's first novel on a WWI-era Princeton student. He enjoyed adulation as the voice of his generation after its publication, but I'd prefer the hard-earned maturity of later works (The Beautiful & Damned & The Last Tycoon). A whiff of cocky undergraduate in the tone that's juvenile, though also poignant when one is mindful of what life had in store for the author, namely alcoholism & premature death

Although the writing was beautiful and I can see why this book made Fitzgerald famous, I don‘t feel like it had much of a plot. As a result, I didn‘t retain much of what I read and I‘m afraid the only thing I‘ll remember when I think about this book is the scene with Eleanor and the horse.

This was not good. It was literally just a privileged man whining that no girls loved him for 216 pages. And why was one chapter written like a play when all the others were normal? 2⭐️

My first F. Scott Fitzgerald book. I got this book from the Christmas book exchange from the #bookclub @MrBook and @BookBabe wonderfully run. A very well-written book! Truly, one of the most well-written books I have ever read. The development of Amory Blaine was wonderful to follow. I loved and underlined many quotes. This book will surely stay with me.

This semi-autobiographical novel, Fitzgerald‘s debut, follows the life and many loves of Princeton student Amory Blaine as he drifts from romantic idealism and self-absorption into a more disillusioned adulthood. With its rhythmic prose and themes of materialism in post WW1 modern society, Fitzgerald captures the Jazz Age in a novel.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ Not my favorite Fitz book. The plot is choppy and I didn‘t enjoy the poetry throughout. Definitely room for improvement and I‘m glad he kept after it.
