Posted this book for #SundayFunday and now can't get it out of my mind. It got me through 4th and 5th grade. Thanks, Ms. Blume. 🧡💜💛

#SundayFunday @BookmarkTavern

I will always be indebted to Judy Blume for getting me through some rough patched in my childhood. Back in 1975, this 10-year-old girl was the ONLY student in her class whose parents were going through a divorce. She thought her life was over. Enter this book. No one was writing for kids my age about these kind of issues ... until Ms. Blume. She had the pulse of Gen X kids, and she saved a lot of us. 🧡💜💛

BookmarkTavern I think a lot of people underestimate how important it is for kids to see themselves in the stories they read. Thank you for sharing! 1w

In 4th grade in 1975, I was the only kid in my class whose parents were going through a divorce. For some reason, I took it harder than my other 3 sisters. Then my mom found this book at a garage sale (the same copy is in the pic above). The main character goes through exactly what I did. It helped me endure. Her books were such a balm. 🧡🤎💛

LeahBergen I read that very same edition! ❤️ And I was recently trying to explain to a younger family member just how important Judy Blume was to our age group. 12mo

On this week‘s episode of my book podcast, my guest Laura Taylor Namey and I deep dive a Judy Blume book that was new to both of us, IT‘S NOT THE END OF THE WORLD. It‘s Judy‘s so-called “divorce book,” so it inspires all kinds of conversations about the evolution of tough talks with kids over the last 50 years. Listen at the link in my bio!

I was the only 4th grader in my school whose parents divorced when I was ten (back in 1975). To me (and everything revolved around “me“ of course back then), it was the end of my world. Then my mom got me this book, and it saved me in all the best ways possible. Now they're both gone and what wouldn't I give to have them back. They both ended up best friends. 💙🖤🩵

While reading this book tonight with my stepdaughter, I couldn't help but react to this line. It struck a chord with me that I don't let many people in on. 😕
