9 posts | 1 read | 2 to read
Recommended by the Ontario Ministry Of Education Grades K-8 With all the controversy and confusion over "best practice" issues in teaching reading, Regie Routman steps in: giving clarity, support, specific demonstrations, and confidence to teachers so they can teach reading in a manner that is consistent with research and learning theory and respectful of students' needs, interests, and abilities. The hate that people load onto Amazon is getting old. I understand why one would avoid using them, but their prices are so much better. There shouldn‘t be shamming of where people buy their books, but an embrace of people reading. It shouldn‘t matter where one buys ones book or if they get them from the library, it should matter more if they are reading at all

melissajayne I understand the concerns that people have about Amazon and other bookstores like ChapterIndigo or B&N or Waterstones, but when your only choice is one of those options to purchase books from, you have to go with those you options. I would like to have a store like Munro‘s in Victoria, BC but I don‘t. (edited) 5y
melissajayne The most important thing is that people are reading. I don‘t care about the format either 5y
melissajayne People are just too damn sensitive as a person‘s reading behaviours. 5y

ShyBookOwl I agree. The world is changing and that means the way we access books is changing too. Key here, we're still reading! So much, in fact, that we need accessible, affordable options. I'm buying books. All the time. Usually from Amazon. 5y
Birdsong28 In my town we have a small Waterstones or the Supermarket for new releases, there is a bargain book store but it takes awhile for them to get new releases, so if I can't find it in the 2 main options mentioned I have to go to Amazon. I also have a kindle so I have to get my ebooks from Amazon and I love using Audible which is an Amazon company for my audiobooks. I guess some people don't like using big corporations. But I agree with your sentiment 5y
rretzler Agreed. 5y
melissajayne @Birdsong28 and most people who say these things usually live in more urban environments that have such things. If you live in a suburb or smaller community your options are limited. I would to have an independent book store in my suburban town, but I don‘t. 5y

Couldn‘t resist reposting this that I found on FB. It neglects to mention what reading does for your vocabulary. My current nonfiction read is sending me on regular treks to the dictionary.

Susanita Reading too loud. 🤣🤣 5y

I‘m moderately obsessed with this reading graph I somehow got to on Goodreads today. Look at how sad my reading life was at the beginning of grad school (2011-2013) to now!

I‘d love to see everyone else‘s graphs!!

Pamwurtzler Did you get there from your phone? 7y
drbethandherkindle @Pamwurtzler Yeah, I got there from on email they sent me today/yesterday. I couldn‘t find how to get there from the app 7y
Pamwurtzler I got some email from them too! I‘ll check it out. 7y
