Welcome to Litsy!

I dragged my feet picking this up because I wasn‘t ready for it to end. I love many of the characters Older brought to life in this NYC of living, dead, and half-dead. While I would have liked more time with Reza and a couple of others, this was a satisfying conclusion to the trilogy.

As always, Older's writing is vibrant and his world is so real. I didn't love this one as much as the other two in the series - not sure if it was the characters he chose as POV or what.

Finished the Bone Street Rumba trilogy. I'm not a big fan of epic climactic battles so I preferred books 1 and 2.

This. Book. This. Book. There are no words. It is beautiful, jarring, aware [of the current state of the world], sexy, a completely satisfying end to this fantastic series. Oh, DJO has done it again. Whew! The world building, the character development, the spirituality, the fantastic representation of just about every marginalization. I am floored. I have not a single complaint. Every page was perfect.

I am eating fried shrimp, in bed, while reading my favorite author's most recent novel. This is my happy place defined. I never want to do anything else.

Retreating into my book comfort zone. Life is hard.

I found this one a little less suspenseful than the first two novels, but I was still completely drawn into the setting and the characters. Everyone is so fully fleshed out (no pun intended) that I just want to spend time with them and know that they're going to be ok.

"Hit 'em quick, get out fast." I see what you did there. Good to know that we're getting far enough out that Hamilton references are popping up in regular books.

I'm sneaking in a little time to unwind and join #litsypartyofone before I go to sleep. I was hoping to finish this book in time to take it back to the library tomorrow, but I don't think that's going to happen.

"Being near him is like drinking a whole glass of milk and realizing there was a dead mouse at the bottom. And then the dead mouse looks up at you and smiles". WTF is happening inside Daniel Jose Older's head? I'm simultaneously amazed and horrified by this turn of phrase. That is a suspiciously specific simile.

Yes I am going to bed at 9:15 on a Friday night with my book and a container of peanut butter cups. It's been a long week and I'm taking my joy where I can find it right now.

Again Daniel Jose Older left me wanting more. I love how he ties his series together and brings the Shadowshaper world in here. He even borrowed a little from Chuck Wendig here!

Next up on the agenda. Hope this is as good as the first two!

Such an incredibly satisfying end (?) to the trilogy!! I like that he managed to weave this world and Shadowshaper together. I hate that Kia and Reza aren't as present in this one, but otherwise I loved it!! Totally random pic I took that is apropos of nothing lol.

I haven't read Battle Hill Bolero yet, but I'm sad it's the last book of the highly enjoyable Bone Street Rumba series. I need more!!

Finished with just 30 minutes to spare til midnight! I wasn't able to properly participate in #24in48, but I think I managed to get nearly 12 hours in (with a few breaks in between)!

Anyhow! BONE STREET RUMBA is over. 😭😭😭 It ended SO WELL and was SO STEAMY, but man am I gonna miss these folks. I hope at least to get updates in the Shadowshaper novels. Farewell, my loves!

Whelp, my phone failed me. I hit 23 hours 37 minutes and then the timer decided to restart. 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 The last time I hit lap (for when I started my last book) was at 20 hours. Technology fails. #24in48

Just now able to participate--however incompletely--in #24in48! Reading with my lil dude amid a partly packed apartment. Also...BATTLE HILL BOLERO!!!!!!!

ACK! As if having to work all day wasn't egregious enough in keeping me from participating in the STL march and making any sort of real dent in the #24in48 readathon, Battle Hill Bolero came in and I HAVE TO WAIT SO LONG til I get to dig in.

The only books on my TBR for #24in48 are the Bone Street Rumba trilogy. Y'all know my love for DJO is deep and unending. I am so excited to re-read HRB and MTT and to read BHB for the first time.

Tentative TBR for @24in48 , some of which will carry over to #DiverseAThon. I'm so excited for this, and currently headed out to stock up on snacks! #24in48 #tbr

I'm going to re/read this entire trilogy for #24in48.

As expected, BHB was outstanding. Yesterday Older held a mini comp on twitter to see who could name the Bone Street Rumba character who is mentioned in Shadowshaper. Trying to think of the answer made me want to reread the book so it is next.

DJO continues to be one of my all-time favourite authors.
