The Mistress: A Novel | Danielle Steel
18 posts | 24 read | 5 to read
Incomparable storyteller Danielle Steel illuminates rarely glimpsed precincts of unimaginable wealth and power, where love and freedom are the most dangerous desires of all. Natasha Leonovas beauty saved her life. Discovered on a freezing Moscow street by a Russian billionaire, she has lived for seven years under his protection, immersed in rarefied luxury, while he pursues his activities in a dark world that she guesses at but never sees. Her home is the world, often on one of Vladimir Stanislass spectacular yachts manned by scores of heavily armed crew members. Natashas job is to keep Vladimir happy, ask no questions, and be discreet. She knows her place, and the rules. She feels fortunate to be spoiled and protected, and is careful not to dwell on Vladimirs ruthlessness or the deadly circles he moves in. She experiences only his kindness and generosity and believes he will always keep her safe. She is unfailingly loyal to him in exchange. Theo Luca is the son of a brilliant, world famous, and difficult artist, Lorenzo Luca, who left his wife and son with a fortune in artwork they refuse to sell. Lorenzos widow, Maylis, has transformed their home in St. Paul de Vence into a celebrated restaurant decorated with her late husbands paintings, and treats it as a museum. There, on a warm June evening, Theo first encounters Natasha, the most exquisite woman he has ever seen. And there, Vladimir lays eyes on Lucas artwork. Two dangerous obsessions begin. Theo, a gifted artist in his own right, finds himself feverishly painting Natashas image for weeks after their first meeting. Vladimir, enraged that Lorenzos works are not for sale, is determined to secure a painting at any price. And Natasha, who knows that she cannot afford to make even one false move, nevertheless begins to think of a world of freedom she can never experience as Vladimirs mistress. She cannot risk her safety for another man, or even a conversation with him, as Theo longs for a woman he can never have. From Moscow to the Riviera, Paris, and London, The Mistress is a riveting tale of vast fortune, cruelty, creative genius, and daring courage, as uncompromising individuals chart a course for collision. From the Hardcover edition.

Cinfhen I haven‘t read a book by Danielle Steele in forever! 10mo
jenniferw88 @Cinfhen she was one of my Gran's favourite authors, but I won't be rushing to read any more by her. I really don't do what I call 'straight romance' - but somehow lgbtq romance is fine 😂 10mo
Cinfhen I‘m probably the same age as your gran 😂😂😂and I DID love Danielle Steele back in the day too but at some point, I “outgrew” her novels 10mo

jenniferw88 @Cinfhen LOL! I REALLY DOUBT THAT! (She'd have been 94 this year) 😂 Birthday card is in the post! Xx 10mo
Librarybelle I just cannot get into her newer books. I really liked her older book that is set partly on the Titanic. 10mo
Cinfhen HaHaHa - so I‘m a bit younger than your gran xxxx 10mo

Thanks for the tag @MoonWitch94 ! #thoughtfulthursday

Pictured is me with my 90 year old Gran, who was very brave in the early 1960's and left her abusive husband. She was also very strong, as when I was born (with my ❤ defect), she gave up smoking so she could look after me (under orders from my Mum though!)

Tagged book was one of the last gifts she gave me. She also loved Daphne du Maurier, and loved (and lived for a bit) in Cornwall.

Cupcake12 Lovely photo ❤️ Thank you for the tag xxx 1y

I'm starting a new book today! I got this Spanish version of The Mistress from Danielle Steel - my sister lend it to me, she loved it! - I have to confess, I've never read a Steel's book before, so this is gonna be like a kind of a introduction to her world. Did you guys read it? Let me know if you liked it!

Xmas pressie from my gran - not my usual genre but the plot sounds intriguing...

ColleenIsReading My mom was a big Danielle Steel fan in the 80s and I read a lot of her books as a teen. I remember them as being fluffy but enjoyable. No idea how they are these days. Is she still alive and doing her own writing? Or is she like Robert Ludlum or VC Andrews—long gone but the pseudonym remains? 5y
jenniferw88 @ColleenIsReading it appears she is still alive. 5y

Meh. Just okay. For me, this is not a typical Danielle Steel book that kept me turning the pages nor was I particularly thrilled with the characters or the ending. I didn't feel like there was a lot of character development particularly in Natasha. A little bit more so in Maylis. Sorry, but this one just didn't do it for me 😔

Any Danielle Steel fans in the Litsy house? The library acquired her latest release, which has a 2017 copyright! I personally took several requests for this title a couple months ago. Many DS fans at my library. She has 6 shelves all to herself, she's so prolific! #TBRtemptation post! #blameLitsy #blameMrBook 😎
