Brain Robeson is a thirteen-year-old boy who got into a plane accident while flying to his Dad in northern Canada in the Canadian wilderness. After the plane crash, he‘s left nothing but a hatchet given by his mother. Surviving to the fullest, Brain tries his best to gather food and shelter. The problems of the wild begin to affect David's lifestyle, nothing can be expected with the harsh conditions.

Nathan_356 If you like books with adventure and survival at the fullest with heart-stopping moments, then this book is for you.
The Hatchet is a Third Person Omniscient view. The techniques used by the author by favoring Brian's perspective and don't narrate the thoughts and feelings of other characters. This style suits the story as Brian spends much of the book alone with nobody to speak to but lots of time to think.

My daughter read Hatchet with her class at school. I hadn't reread it as an adult so I joined them too. I hadn't reread it as an adult and hadn't remembered as much as I assumed I had. At its foundation learning a respect for nature shines through.

Gary James Paulsen (May 17, 1939 – October 13, 2021) was an American writer of children's and young adult fiction, best known for coming of age stories about the wilderness. He was the author of more than 200 books and wrote more than 200 magazine articles and short stories, and several plays, all primarily for teenagers. Shown above is a 5-book series about Brian and his will to live in harsh wilderness. #WeRemember #GaryPaulsen

#thingswehaveincommon blue covers. I‘ve never read this and we had a rummage sale which caused my husband to unearth his copy. (Apparently stolen from his elementary library-though he denies this) The only way to save it was to read it. I quite liked it. I‘ll be keeping it for our son.

My reluctant reader was attracted to this 30th anniversary edition of Hatchet - I NEVER say no to books!

He‘d only agree to a pic if I included Family Guy. 🙄

This edition is really neat. Leather like cover and beautiful pencil illustrations!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ My sweet, sensitive 9 year old is reading this in ELA and absolutely loving it. He recommended I read it, and since I never have, of course I bought a copy! This is some heavy stuff for kids, but the appeal is obvious. It‘s a grown up story (at least for my son) with serious situations. It‘s more literary than most books he‘s drawn to. I think it will change him as a reader. I can‘t wait to see his reaction to the ending!

TheDaysGoBy I haven‘t read this since I was a kid. It‘s honestly amazing we got to read such heavy books at such a young age. I have been thinking of revisiting some of those early books I remember reading. Number the Stars is another one 1y
CogsOfEncouragement Someone just recommended this to my teen son and me. I think we‘ll listen to the audiobook in the new year. 1y
Cinfhen Paulson is such a great writer / I remember when my son was assigned this book, but not at 9!! Amazing that your kiddo is being exposed to such great books at an early age. Happy Holidays, Britt 💚❤️💚 1y

13-Year-old Brain Robeson is flying to Northern Canada for the summer to spend time with his Dad. While flying to Canada his pilot Jim or Jake (The main character who forgot the pilot's name,) died from a heart attack leading Brain to fly the plane into a lake. This whole text reminds me of the Delta Air Lines Flight 89, It happened on Jan 14 2020 and even though it did not crash it was a plane incident where the pilot dropped Jet fuel.

Shocktober Film # 14: Hatchet
Do you miss the campy horror films of the '80s with their ridiculous practical effects? If ketchup-covered sausages playing the role of a large intestine is exactly what you want for a Halloween scare, then this is what you should watch. Is it a masterpiece? No. Will it entertain for 90 minutes? You bet your Milk Duds it will! +6

Brian Robeson, a 13 year old boy, had recently experienced his parent's divorce. While traveling in a small plane, the pilot, who he does not know, has a heart attack. Brian is able to sustain the plane for 7 hours before inevitably plummeting to the forest floor. Trapped alone for 54 days, the experience changes him forever. Hatchet is narrated in the third person limited point of view.

AustinWilkins We see this when the narrator has access to Brian's thoughts and nobody else's during each event. If you enjoy stories that explore the truth of survival, you will not want to put this one down. 3y

I really enjoyed this book. This book is about a 13-year-old boy. He is flying to Canada to visit his dad, when the plane crashes. He is the only survivor and has to learn how to survive and adapt to his surroundings. If you like books about survival and wilderness you would enjoy this. The theme of this novel is survival, and overcoming obstacles. The theme is present because Brian hast to learn how to overcome surviving in the wilderness.

MissYaremcio Cute kitty!! Probably one of my favourite novels to teach! I usually teach it with a Minecraft project at the end, so it's definitely one of the more rugged and captivating books. Keep up the great work! 6/6 3y

10/10 HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
Gary Paulsen is a Three Time Newberry Honor Award Winning Author for a reason! Your students will love this book and having an acclaimed book and author in your classroom library is a MUST!

Emma_Barcena The text's genre is RF. This is a Newbery Medal Award winning book. This book can be used as an AS. I used this resource in my author study presentation about Gary Paulsen, and it can be used in the classroom when students are doing an AS using this text.

This RF Newberry award winning book is great for a middle school GR. This boy named Brian ends up in a plane crash after the pilot has a heart attack and he has to live in the woods on his own with nothing but a hatchet he found in the crashed plane. Slowly he finds ways to survive while going through a lot of mental hardship. More on the author at https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/authors/23384/gary-paulsen

KatiaP ESOL strategy I would use 2 and 9 teach note-taking strategies and promoting cooperation. Students can come together and share their notes on what was read. UDL principles that can be used are 1.2 offer alternatives for auditory information by using videos or recordings of reading to play for the class during the GR. #UCFLAE3414SP20 3y
