Something about this book reads like a YA romance, even though it‘s about Lotus, a Chinese prostitute. All of the characters are cliched and the author writes in simple, direct sentences, not in a beautiful way, but more like she thinks the reader is daft. I‘m not inclined in any way to pick this up again after reading the first 100 pages so I‘m done! Atleast I can check this one off my #tbrbingo ☑️

I REALLY enjoyed this novel. A young woman from a small village moves to the city to provide and make a better life for her family. She gets caught up in prostitution, and ends up meeting an unlikely suitor that changes her life. The ending was lovely 😊

#TBRtemptation post! Wow! This story sounds compelling when you know that it was written based on the author's grandmother's deathbed confession of being sold to a brothel when a girl. Lotus heads to the city of Shenzhen to blaze her own trail. She works the streets while sending "waitress wages" home. All the while, she weighs her concubinal options among several different men.
