This was really great, just what I needed now. Great world building, characters, and a twisty-turny plot with a real climax. It is a bit slow starting, but from about halfway it is a real page turner. There is still plenty left that is still unexplained, so onto the next one! Took me out of my reading slump. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

InLibrisVeritas @daena Thank you ❀ I'm so glad you loved it! It's definitely a series I want to continue as well! 3w
TheSpineView I loved this book too!πŸ’œ I have already read the 2nd one and will continue on. I liked some of the characters but I was not drawn to any of them. I think Fritz could have been so much more had been given the chance. Yet, in ways he was a better person for not growing up privileged. 3w
Gezemice I am so sorry for your loss. Sending you my deepest sympathies. 2w
Gezemice I have just finished it and loved it! @daena @TheSpineView I am going to read on, too! There is plenty to be left to explore, we only scratched the surface of The Skill, The Wit, and the mysterious repell thing that I am not sure if is a third thing or not. It was a page-turner and I loved the doublecrossings at the end. 1. I did text mostly but had audio as well when I was doing chores. (edited) 2w
Gezemice 2. The characters are well described but we don‘t really get too close to them, this is mostly plot driven. I wonder why Burrich has such a distaste for The Wit - there is something in his past. 3. I think his closeness to Burrich and animals is why his upbringing was in the stables and it might not have been an accident. 2w

My first ever Robin Hobb book, this was a slow burner but well worth the read. RH has a very distinct writing style that took me a few chapters to get my head in gear but by the end was thoroughly enjoying. Characters and world were well built and the story was engaging. Look forward to reading the second in the trilogy. Photo is unrelated but couldn‘t go without one, This is the family‘s attempt to draw Rousseau the dog.

I‘m so glad I finally gave this book a shot. The writing is great - it‘s a bit slow, but it sets up an interesting world and character. I‘m a big fan of having a protagonist with some flaws, and Fitz definitely makes some mistakes along the way that add to his growth. I look forward to continuing the series.

Since Elizabeth Haydon's Symphony of Ages series not a real lot has scratched my fantasy itch with anything even approaching true satisfaction. Happily the high hopes I had for this author were all met with aplomb. Top notch writing - simple, precise, thoroughly absorbing, so easy to read (& so hard to do!) Plot was a slow builder, a gradual immersion that was nonetheless very engaging. And then the final section of the book - cont. below ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️

Prior to joining Litsy in the fall of 2016 I regularly watched booktube. Robin Hobb is an author who has been on my radar since then & now having finally read her, I can say the hype is real. Yes, there is a George RR Martin blurb on the front, but don't expect Grimdark. Hobb gradually builds her world up, & although there are moments of high drama (Forging anyone?), this is all about the characters & their choices, a coming of age. I LOVED this!

So glad I finally read this - a great world to get lost in for a week. Fitz is a bastard child to a prince in a bustling kingdom where his existence is a threat to some and a source of hatred from others. In order to survive he has to navigate through a whole host of characters and politics. I can see this making a great tv series as it‘s almost episodic, multiple challenges he faces within a larger character arc. I completely loved it 😍

First of a trilogy, which is itself just a small part of the Hobb universe, and concerns Fitz, the bastard son of a Prince of the Six Duchies, his boyhood and youth and his training as the King's assassin. There's two distinct systems of magic, intrigue, loyalty, and betrayal and the writing and characterisation is way superior to many fantasy novels. I can see some might find it a little slow-moving but I enjoyed it a lot.

Just finished «Assassin‘s Apprentice» by Robin Hobb the other day, and it was all I wanted it to be.
β€’
It‘s a slow-paced, character-driven, classical epic fantasy, about a bastard boy thrown into a world of magic and political conflict, and his coming of age.
β€’
If you like the Lightbringer or Mistborn or Kingkiller series, chances are you‘ll fall for Farseer too.

While this book starts slow, once it hooks you it really hooks. Love the way the book flows, keeps you on the edge of your seat.

Caz1 It‘s so slow 9mo

Really liked this one! Am jumping right on the second in the series. Quietly enjoying these days that seem to go by much too quickly. Here's a picture of the moon beam and his Dada looking over some cliffs. Luckily it was a relatively warm day. Before this, he got all wet from splashing at the beach and we had to peel his soggy pants off. :) I love that unexpectedly, he clambers into our laps and plants kisses on us. β™₯️ Don't grow up too fast!

I've loved Robin Hobb's books since I was a teen and they are still my comfort reads. If you like your fantasy rich in detail and full of complicated characters, you'll love her books!

My husband and eldest daughter left early this morning for Windhoek by car. I and my youngest are flying tomorrow. Spent the morning madly getting documents certified (you have to give permission if only one parent is traveling with a child) and getting some stationery and last-minute toiletries. Now I have to pack!

At 40% in, I'm still not quite getting why my husband inhaled these books at record speed 😊 It's not bad but also not amazing...

RainyDayReading I haven‘t started this book yet, but I‘ve been told that her later series are better and well worth it. But in order to read those you have to read this first trilogy πŸ™„ Maybe you‘ll get hooked in later on? 11mo
MommyWantsToReadHerBook @RainyDayReading I hope so! Something pretty interesting just happened so yeah, maybe the pace is picking up 11mo
