Final book completed for September's #20in4 - this is a short, fluffy, modern adaptation of P&P that I had a few quibbles with but overall enjoyed. I especially liked that the author decided to keep all the sisters (a lot of modern adaptations seem to think it's ridiculous that a family would have five kids) and that Darcy was a reasonable person, not just a total jerk. I would have liked this one to be a little longer, as it felt like some ⬇️

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) things were wrapped up a little too quickly, but overall a perfectly pleasant time.

I didn't hit my goal of 1000pgs for #20in4 but I did complete 3 three books and caught up on all my chapter-a-day reads, including Dracula (I was over 100pgs behind on that one), so I feel pretty satisfied with the weekend's progress @Andrew65

PageShifter This sounds imteresting 🤔 2y
TheAromaofBooks @PageShifter - If you're looking for a fast, light read, this was a fun one. It's less than 150pgs long, so it's a little light on character development, but I still enjoyed it haha 2y

After all the heavy stuff I'd been reading, I really needed something light and fun, and this book turned out to be just that. It's a modernization of P&P, and I don't know if the book would work on its own, without any previous knowledge of the original, but I appreciated that the author didn't overexplain anything. Some updates worked better than others, but overall I felt the author had done a good job.

eeclayton My favourite update was that Mr Collins won the lottery and visited the Bennets to lay low for a while, and Catherine de Bourgh was his financial advisor 😂 2y

I'm always interested to see how authors decide to “update“ P&P, and while this one wasn't groundbreaking, it was a great deal of fun with some #laughter along the way. I really liked the way the author decided to interpret some of the characters and scenarios, although I was confused why half the people had the same first names as their original counterparts, while others were randomly changed (seriously, she keeps Fitzwilliam but changes George⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) Wickham to Jeff Wickham??) A fun little romp, and when I was looking this up on GR to get a copy of the cover pic, I realized that she's actually written three more sequels based on other Austen books, so I am totally going to check those out as well!!

CrowCAH The cover is cute! Yay for more variations! 2y
TheAromaofBooks @Librariana @eeclayton - I typed a comment and it disappeared, so sorry if you tagged twice for basically the same thing 😂 I did like this one a lot, but it's one of those things where the concept is almost stronger than the execution. I really wanted there to be more character development. Still an enjoyable read, though!! 2y
mabell Sounds fun! Do you have a preference between historical or modern variations? 2y
TheAromaofBooks @mabell - Not a strong preference, no. I'm here for any of them haha I think the historical ones are fun because sometimes only one small thing is changed from the original - but the domino effect makes everything after different as well, which is super fun to see. But I also love seeing how different people interpret the themes and characters in a different setting! I'm easy to please! 😂 2y
mabell @TheAromaofBooks I love that! I never thought about how reading variations of P&P could be a comfort read, but I totally get it! 2y

I'm always a sucker for a P&P variation. This modern adaptation was a lot of fun. I felt like the author hit it right updating various scenarios, although I was a smidge confused about why some random first names were changed from the originals while others weren't. While this book could have used a little more depth and development, it was a fun, lighthearted story.

LiteraryinLawrence Have you read Ayesha at Last? It‘s a Muslim Canadian variation on P&P and I‘m liking it so far! 5y
TheAromaofBooks Oooo I will have to add that one to the list! 5y
