My oldest just texted me from the paternal grandparents‘. I love that our relationship is one that they can describe something as non-euclidean and I know they mean a geometrically unsettling nightmare a la H. P. Lovecraft. 🥰 #raisingreaders

Holy Shitballs! In the time since I‘ve been on here, I: lost my apartment; moved back to my hometown in Idaho from Boston; finalized a divorce;[we all] passed 2 waves of pandemic; moved to Homer,AK; worked at a rare book store; had all my worldly possessions stollen; got home; saw my mom through cancer; started a podcast; got published in the Boston Globe; became a bartender; went back to AK; made it home; became a librarian; & READ A LOT!
Watched the Brad Pitt adaptation of Moneyball (first time)with my dude and his family last night. He had two A‘s hats we Had to wear. It was a blast.
One thing that has got me through this year is my membership to Harvard Bookstore‘s Signed First Editions Club. When I got stuck in my hometown during quarantine, they happily shipped me my backlog; Christmas in June!
So a little more than a year and a half ago, my ex and I split. Then things really started to happen...
I can‘t believe how long it‘s been and what‘s transpired. As part of carving a new life for myself, I got a tattoo of a man that changed my life at 17. Flawed genius, right where I can see him remind me to tell the f*cking story.
I saw the documentary, “The Center Will Not Hold,” And recommended YMT to my mother. She started and finished it before I even got a copy. I read it as fast as I could, first to catch up to her, then because I couldn‘t stop!

When your nerdisms cross, the effect is often a bad pun. Sorry, not sorry. #LorePodcast #PokemonGo
There are so many good things about this book. There are some things that made me think, “Wait, THAT‘S the thesis?” “That‘s the binding thing?” There were two loose ends- one I could only reconcile because they were a side character. Anyway, it was a good read. The writing was good and I highly enjoyed the story.
This book is required reading, & I don‘t say that lightly. Keefe takes a handful of braided lives to weave one masterful story that happens to work like a celluloid cypher to so many global issues. This is the kind of book that changes the reader‘s history to, “Before I read...” and, “After I read...”
I was looking for something else when Utopia caught my eye. I asked myself, “Why buy it when it‘s on the public domain, though? Then I saw who wrote the intro and essays and I was done for.
-What makes you buy a book you could read for free?
It‘s been a busy season (more articles, fewer novels) but I couldn‘t be prouder of our hardworking girl. She wanted a part in the Nutcracker & she went & got it! #WorthIt
Snuggling up post-festivities is one of the best parts. #merrybooksmas

Merry Booksmas! Happy Holidays! #bookhaul
Of all the praises I could give this book, the most important is this: Get it in audio!!! The dialogue and dialect are too savory for the eyes to do justice. Listen!
Happiness is: Leaving new books by their beds & waking to squeals of joy & gratitude- “Eeeee! Thanks, Mom!” Nailed it!
I promised I wouldn‘t get anything new for myself till I finished what I‘m on...but that doesn‘t mean I won‘t get books for THEM!
I‘m almost too excited for this one💙💜💗.
A new, better fit apartment in an old neighborhood that, we all agree, is home. Next step: A Forever House.
This was a lot more fun than I thought it would be, in that I‘d heard disparaging reviews about the writing quality. But I hardly found a hiccup and over all enjoyed it very much!
So tell me: why the hell didn‘t someone give this too me as a kid?! Haha
As if being sick as hell didn‘t put me in a melodramatic mood already, my PCP‘s office is, literally, in a Belle Epoch “high rise” building. #toopretty #consumptivemaiden
True Love is when you‘re too sick to sit up, so they get a new audiobook to listen to together, then syncs the playback on your phones before getting up to make you soul food.
A new perspective that reading has brought to this privileged child: what happened to the people who came to U. S. Customs between 1880-1920 & were turned away?
Between the snowstorms last week and The Cold From Hell this weekend, I should be freaking DaVinci by now.
Did anyone else do this challenge with the podcast?
Finishing The Shining from my In-Laws' cabin. Behind the whiteness are the Sawtooth Mountains. I swear this was unplanned.
I missed #nationalcatday because I was caring for my Sherlock. The vet was blunt about his survival odds, but we were vigilant, & today he's almost 100% again. He's a strong kitty. He reminded me of my favorite Bukowski poem, "The History of a Tough Motherfucker."

Everything is Holy!
I was busy all day yesterday, so Happy Howl Day today!
The descriptions were pristine. Rachman paints layer upon layer so subtly that I could ALMOST overlooked the complete absence of a plot.
Then he killed off the dog- the only likable character of the whole mess.
But, just maybe, the very pointlessness of the whole damned thing was it's point. I guess if I am asking myself that, the book has succeeded...
I know this is a month old, but knowing Stephen King loves Rancid & similar bands makes me so happy! #goodtaste

So this is happening, and I'm still pinching myself...

Bees always bring me hope & optimism. Saw this guy & more at the park...
Watson knows what's good.
Seriously though, cat knows exactly when I'll have a book to rub every day.

This was the perfect escapist novel. I couldn't imagine a greater counter weight to the news cycle than a sassy, sympathetic MacGyver uniting planet Earth. Throw in a righteous rebellion by his team & you've got a hook. Weir does a good job of showing a lot of characters w/ depth. Dr. Neil D. Tyson might rip up the science, but it's fine for a story. Enjoy.
Pharmacist: Is that your member card?
Me:(searching wallet) Oh, that's my library card.
Pharmacist: I didn't know people still went to the library!
Me: (Thinking) Should I be taking drugs from this person??? #actualconvo
Audiobook: "I glued my hand to the helmet,"
Me: [giggles]
Audiobook:"Stop laughing." #4thWall
O.W. argues that we relate to the emotions of characters, & the rest should be escapism...🤔
I'm blowing you all kisses- mwah, mwah, mwah!! Thank you! #milestones
I have to take a break from this one for a bit. I'm in a sensitive mood. Also, unrelated, I really dislike Vivian. I pity her, but I still dislike her. To be continued...
OMG I'm salivating to read this book now! Excellent interview.
Spoiled for Mother's Day! Happy Mother's Day to all the Nurturers!
Last week we finished HP7 & it was even better than I remembered. They've grown so much & I couldn't be prouder, but I was apprehensive (it's hard to let go of 5 yrs). But reading the end together was so full of heart, & they insisted we have to start all over again soon; I don't think we've lost a drop of the magic. ⚡️💚
