The World of Lore: Wicked Mortals
The World of Lore: Wicked Mortals | Aaron Mahnke
A chilling, lavishly illustrated Who's Who of the most despicable people ever to walk the earth, featuring both rare and best-loved stories from the hit podcast Lore, soon to be an online streaming series. Here are the incredible true stories of some of the mortals who achieved notoriety in history and folklore through horrible means. Monsters of this sort--serial killers, desperate criminals, and socially mobile people with a much darker double-life--are, in fact, quite real, including H. H. Holmes, the infamous Chicago serial killer; William Brodie, the Edinburgh criminal mastermind who inspired The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde; and Bela Kiss, a Hungarian tinsmith with a most disturbing hobby: collecting women in gasoline drums.

This is my first experience with Lore and the author. I‘m listening to the author read this and his voice just isn‘t working. I need creepier and he sounds cheerful even. I‘m still enjoying the stories even with some of his cheesy lines at the ends. I‘ll read the other book in the series, but probably in his voice now. It‘s gonna haunt me 😂

This is similar in style and layout to the first book in the trilogy: Monstrous Creatures. It is still the podcast, but once again, having listened through it so fast, it‘s a nice refresh. Plus this one is about horrible people: serial killers, con artists, you name it. Just the scum of the earth. And that‘s my jam. First story was about H.H. Holmes (who has a few in this book), and I immediately squeeed in excitement.

It might be weird that I enjoy wrapping books so much, but there we are. #Litsyloveslibraries

LibrarianRyan No i get that. It's just one of those relaxing repetitive work that you can get lost in. I too love it. Even though we dont do it at this library. 6mo

BooknerdsLife Awww 😱😍 I used to volunteer at my girls school library just to wrap books! 😆It‘s so relaxing. But we use something called contact which is a clear plastic sheet with a sticky side https://youtu.be/pYOVVuO3vRs 5mo

When you pick up a book by a favorite author/podcaster and the first story is about H. H. Holmes! This is one of those stories that I find fascinating for some reason. And may I just mention how much I LOVE these illustrations by M. S. Corley!

I‘ve thoroughly enjoyed all three of these lore books, started listening to the podcasts and plan to check out the amazon series. Anyone who has a love for the strange and spooky would enjoy it.

Patchshank I listen to the podcast. I've been curious about the books. How closely related are they to the podcast? Is he just retelling the same stories? 9mo
kaykay521 @Patchshank I‘ve only listened to a handful of podcast episodes so far, so I personally haven‘t read any stories I‘d already heard. The book does say it features stories from the podcast, so I imagine it‘s stories he‘s already told with some bonus material thrown in. 9mo

Moving onto the next #Booked2019 choice on my list for the Related to a Podcast prompt. I love the green argyle printed paper inside the book. I hope this is as good as the podcast! @cinfhen @4thhouseontheleft @barbarathebibliophage

Cinfhen I‘m soooooooo curious about this book. Hope it doesn‘t disappoint. I‘ve seen only positive reviews 9mo

People are the scariest creatures out there and this sequel to The World of Lore shares some of those dark tales of evil people. Fans of the podcast will definitely enjoy it and I find Aaron Mahnke‘s narration really grows on me. I probably won‘t get through the third book this year, but I‘ll save it for next October. 🎃🎃🎃🎃

This was a fun book. I listened to the audiobook, read by the author. Each story is in short paragraphs so it was pretty easy to listen to in installments. Some really weird stories here. Worth a listen to.

We had a team building function today that was right across the street from my local #indie bookstore #ParkRoadBooks. I HAD to stop before heading home. #bookhaul. I think I did a good job of controlling myself since I just bought these two. Excited to add to my stack for the October #Screamathon. 😂

The 2nd book of Lore reads as well as the first. The short story setup makes them easy to read in short bursts. Which was something I needed with Wicked Mortals. If true crime is not your genre (it's not mine) the section covering notorious murderers and serial killers might take a few breaks to get through. Outside of that it remains an entertaining read. I'm googling the release of the 3rd installment now.

Checked this out from our elibrary after seeing a publisher post about it. The stories are gripping but also super dark and frightening. I got about a third of the way through today before I decided finishing it was probably not the best thing for my brain and anxiety. Praying none of the stories find their way into my dreams tonight! 😳😫

I absolutely loved this book which I received from netgalley in exchange for an honest review. It is full of such fascinating tales of the darker side of human nature. Every story is intense and witty, plus the illustrations are great! My full review is up on my blog now and I would be so grateful if you gave it a read!
