Started this on #hoopla. Thanks @Cinfhen for the heads up! I lost my password for awhile, and I must say I LOVE the new layout!! (And I have 20 borrows now!!)

I‘m surprised I‘m not finding the accent problematic and am still able to listen at 2.0x. Probably because I‘m part Scottish. 😉😃🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Cathythoughts I love the Scottish accent ❤️ that‘s a fast speed your on 👍🏻 3y
Cinfhen 20?!?!??? I only get 5😩and 2.0 #SpeedJunkie 😘😘 3y
Megabooks @Cathythoughts it is a great accent! And thanks! 💜 3y

Megabooks @Cinfhen it used to be 10. I guess they‘ve upped it. I‘m sorry!!!! I wish I could share!!! ❤️❤️ and you know I‘m a #speedfreak 3y
Kalalalatja I started listening at 2.0 in January, and I‘m surprised by how quickly I got used to it. Also, I feel like I‘m flying through audios now 🙌 3y
Megabooks @Kalalalatja 👍🏻👍🏻 fellow #speedfreak!! 3y

274 titles and 758 hours, even I didn‘t expect that!!

First listen was, appropriately, #newyearwhodis with @youneverarrived 💖

Also with titles vs hours, I‘m obviously a #speedfreak, and lest you think all my titles were short Ducks, Newburyport was 45 hours!

And the nonfiction vs fiction, it was a bit surprising that difference was that large.

My top authors were Elin Hilderbrand, Rebecca Solnit, and 🌈 Rowell!

577 titles 🤯🤯

TrishB Wow 😳 3y
CoverToCoverGirl Great year! 3y
Graywacke Phew. Wow. Also congrats on fantastic year audio year. 3y

BarbaraBB What @TrishB says 😳 3y
Cinfhen That‘s INSANE and TOTALLY AWESOME 👏🏼 👏🏼 👏🏼 I need to peek at my stats except I also use Hoopla , Overdrive & Scribd so my hours and book counts won‘t be as accurate 3y
Megabooks @Cinfhen thanks!! ❤️😘 I think the number of titles also counts partial titles because I can think of some I‘ve partially listened or re-listened to. I also used overdrive and Libby a fair bit, but not nearly as much as audible. May-September was so unpredictable, I wanted to have more control over the titles I listened to and not have to stress about due dates. (edited) 3y
Kalalalatja Cool stats! Very impressive 👏🙌 3y

In other audiobook news, maybe I‘m weird, but I can‘t focus on an #audiobook unless I speed it up. Even though I slowed down from my usual 2.0ish to 1.6x, it was still hard to understand Michael with the slight slur that his Parkinson‘s disease gives him. I‘ve put myself on the list for the ebook. Just FYI for other #speedfreaks. Food for thought.

mom2bugnbee Oh. My high school celebrity crush. Will definitely be reading this. 3y
Megabooks @mom2bugnbee I got about 28% in, but I was missing too much. I think you‘ll really enjoy it though. I‘m excited to get the ebook in a couple of months. 3y
SheReadsAndWrites You are an audiobook speed rockstar!! I'm new to audiobooks but my brain can't follow 2.0!!! 🤣 I'm still snail's pace audiobook girl. 🤓 3y
Megabooks @SheReadsAndWrites just saw this. 😀 I definitely live up to the #speedfreak moniker that @Cinfhen gave me! 😂 I‘m just counterintuitive to most in that I focus better at high speeds. I usually just put it at the highest speed that I can understand the narration and follow the plot. 3y

True Story | Kate Reed Petty

Pickpick

This book is soooo good - I couldn‘t put it down. The blurb claims that it is a genre-defying mix of a campus novel, psychological thriller, horror story and crime noir, which is true.

I‘m still trying to process parts of it, what actually happened or didn‘t happen and how I feel about it.

Other than that, I‘m not going to tell you anything about it as it‘s one of those you should go into knowing nothing about.

#netgalleyreviewathon

squirrelbrain @Cinfhen @BarbaraBB @TrishB @Caroline2 @jennym - *this* is what Bunny should have been. If you didn‘t love Bunny (I didn‘t) it‘s like a poor cousin compared to this very clever, also weird, also a bit ‘meta‘ book. Try this one instead.... 4y
BarbaraBB Oh this sounds good! I am going to look it up! Thanks for sharing! 4y
Cinfhen I added it to my cart yesterday!! Do u think audio would work?? 4y

squirrelbrain Hmmm not so sure about audio @Cinfhen - trying not to give too much away but there‘s some sections that are annotated letters and also some play scripts so I don‘t think they would work. I know @oryx loved this one too recently - what do you think Emma, does it need to be read rather than listened to? 4y
squirrelbrain I hope you like it @BarbaraBB - better than Bunny anyway! 🤪👍😘 4y
Cinfhen Book is still pricey!!! So let‘s see what @Oryx thinks about audio?? I think @Megabooks read this too??? 4y
Caroline2 Sounds awesome....stacked! 😀 👍 4y
squirrelbrain @Cinfhen - that‘s a bit annoying that it is expensive.... I bet @Megabooks listened to it in less than 27 minutes! #speedfreak 🤣 4y
Oryx @squirrelbrain @Cinfhen I think some bits might be a bit annoying on audio - like the letters, where there is a bit of repetition (for a good reason) - I found I could look for the new text in those, but it could be a bit tedious if you have to listen to full thing each time. Although I think the multivoice cast would add something. 4y
Oryx Glad you enjoyed it Helen - I agree, completely unputtdownable. 4y
Oryx Also, if you had to pick a cover from the 4, which one would you choose? 4y
squirrelbrain I like the bottom left cover @Oryx , but not sure which genre that applies to - what do you think? 4y
squirrelbrain Great thoughts @Oryx - particularly on the multi-cast. I‘ve not yet listened to a book with more than one narrator (still an #audionewbie!) but I really want to try one out.... @Cinfhen 4y
Cinfhen I‘m still deciding on print vs audio / thanks for the feedback Helen & @Oryx and multi narrated casts are UH.MAY.ZING @squirrelbrain 🙌🏻 4y
Megabooks @Cinfhen I did the audio! It was great. Multiple narrators made it work! Lol...not quite 27 minutes @squirrelbrain 😂😂 4y
eraderneely Ok, when you say horror can you rate it on the scary meter? 0-5 creepy ghosties 👻 4y
squirrelbrain I definitely don‘t do horror and this was fine for me - don‘t want to give anything away but a cabin in the woods with some weird goings-on. More creepy than horror. @eraderneely 4y
eraderneely A creepy cabin in the woods with some weird goings-on sooooounds scary....will it really be ok? 4y
squirrelbrain As long as you‘re not planning to read the book whilst staying in a creepy cabin in the woods, Emily, you should be fine! @eraderneely 4y
eraderneely It‘s getting so much love, so I want to read it. Thanks for the advice! 4y
squirrelbrain Go for it @eraderneely - you won‘t regret it! 4y
JennyM Thanks for the rec @squirrelbrain #stacked! 😘👍 4y
LeahBergen Ooo, stacked! 4y
Oryx I think I like the same cover. I do like the horror one, but it's not as horror-y as that cover would suggest. 4y

I can only do this if I‘m

1. Really used to the narrator (like Bahni Turpin)
2. Generally only professional VO artists because they speak more clearly (like Bahni Turpin)
3. And only if I‘m just listening to the book and not doing anything else besides listening to the book

#megaspeed #speedfreaks @Cinfhen

And yes, I finished the last 4.5 hours after dinner this way!

Cinfhen That‘s INSANE!!!!! #SpeedFreak #MegaSpeed 😘 4y
Megabooks @Cinfhen it is kind of crazy! I listened to my first book at 1.25x four years ago. Now here I am! 🤷🏻‍♀️👍🏻👍🏻 4y
squirrelbrain Whoa- that is just ridiculous! 🤪 4y

rockpools 😂😂😂 Wow! 4y
Megabooks @squirrelbrain @rockpools what can I say, I just keep turning it up!! 😂😂 4y
Hooked_on_books I‘m not quite that fast, though I was able to cut Roots from a 30 hour listen to 15 with my standard 2x. My current listen is on 2.2. That thought of listening to it at standard speed is a little unbearable. Though with some books, that might be ok. 4y
janeycanuck Wow! I think I‘ve gone as fast as 1.7x. You are dedicated. 4y
Daisey Wow! I frequently listen at 1.5 and I think I‘ve gotten up to 2.0 a few times, but I don‘t think I‘ve gone any faster. @jewright this is relevant to our discussion yesterday. 4y
JulAnna @Hooked_on_books Roots is one of my all time favorite reads- what is the audiobook like? Cast or one narrator? Would you recommend? 4y
Megabooks @Hooked_on_books I did the same with Ducks, Newburyport, which was over 40! I listen to that one as high as 2.2, but it was too fast all ready to turn it up! 4y
Megabooks @Daisey yeah, I don‘t know how I do it, but it still makes sense, so I go with it! 4y
Hooked_on_books @JulAnna Highly recommend! It‘s a single narrator, Avery Brooks, whose rich, lush voice is like a balm in your ears. He could read an economics textbook and I‘d listen to it. Fabulous! 4y
jewright @Daisey I‘m always comfortable at 1.75, but I really haven‘t tried any faster than that, and I‘m always doing some kind of work when I listen to audiobooks. This is impressive! (edited) 4y
Megabooks @jewright thanks!! It depends on the narrator for me. I rarely go that fast, but 2.0 is my usual default! 4y
Reviewsbylola 1.25 is usually my preferred speed and I have to be doing something else too, typically it‘s cleaning. 🤪 4y
Megabooks @Reviewsbylola yeah, I listen between 1.75-2.0 when I‘m cleaning, depending on the narrator. 4y
