I love Michelle, but this wasn't that great for me. #roll100 @PuddleJumper

Becoming | Michelle Obama
Bailedbailed

I'm sorry, I bailed after she had been at The White House a while. It was a fascinating insight into a mindset and way of being that she developed through a determined childhood and adolescence. The rise to power was great to read, but I think she should have stopped there - I get why she didn't, as she is more than just a First Lady and wouldn't want to be defined as having 'made it' when she entered the White House - I just stopped caring. Good.

🍁 Michelle Obama's The Light We Carry (tagged)
🍁 🍁 A couple of years I think.
🍁 🍁 🍁 My daughter. Having her, and giving her the childhood, and relationship with her mom that I didn't have.

What can I say, she's an incredible lady.

Zoes_Human I tell you what though. I was absolutely shocked to learn from this that Barack doesn‘t like macaroni and cheese. I didn‘t even think that was possible! 8mo

Organized most of my nonfiction as BeReal popped off. This is where the truly insightful Becoming lives on my bookshelf.

Listening to Michelle Obama talk about how she worked out issues in her life was like talking to your wise friend about things. What was interesting to me though is that, while I always viewed her as calm, cool, and collected, being that way is apparently a real struggle for her. I started Death Comes to Marlow as my new #audiowalk book.

CatLass007 @KathyWheeler I haven‘t finished listening to this book yet, but what I‘ve heard so far has been illuminating. I think one of the most important lessons I‘ve learned while listening to both Becoming and The Light We Carry is what she learned from her mentors. Michelle Obama is a perfectionist (me too!) But she looked around at her imperfect mentors and realized that perfection is unattainable. So excellence is a better goal since it is attainable. 9mo
jlhammar Have you heard the news that The Marlow Murder Club is going to be a PBS Masterpiece Mystery series? https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/masterpiece/specialfeatures/the-marlow-murder-club-tv-a... 9mo
KathyWheeler @CatLass007 I have Becoming but haven‘t read it yet. I need to do so. 9mo
KathyWheeler @jlhammar No! Yay! Looks like they are aging Judith down quite a bit. Samantha Bond is only 61. (edited) 9mo

I‘d hoped to finish this today, but that didn‘t happen; I‘ve got less than 2 hours left though, so it should be soon. We were able to get to the beach today, which was nice. It did rain a little while we were there but then stopped and didn‘t start up again until we were almost home. #audiowalk

It was supposed to rain all day, but it didn‘t so I got to get out of the house. Yay! Michelle Obama‘s discussion of loneliness is interesting. I knew it became a problem during COVID lockdowns, but I hadn‘t realized it was increasingly becoming an issue well before COVID. #audiowalk

Michelle Obama‘s discussion of the fearful mind and how it can hold us back and hurt us really resonated with me. I see the results of allowing the fearful mind to prevail every single day. The streets are filled with leaves from last night‘s storm; then, almost as soon as I got home from my walk today, the storms started again. #audiowalk
