panI cycled through the following stages as I listened to THE BIG TIME:
1. “Wow, Greta‘s narrative voice is fantastic! I‘m in for a good time.”
2. “Wow, this thing‘s packed with characters I can‘t care about. Bored now.”
3. “Wow, whenever I rise out of my boredom, I find I actively hate this thing on account of the casually relayed gendered violence.”
1 star (which is my “why the hell did I finish this??” rating)
I took a lunchtime #audiowalk and found maple nut ice cream for @ljuliel .
I‘m gonna finish this book because it‘s so short and I‘ve only got about half an hour left, but it‘s also pretty boring. Leiber delivers a stellar narrative voice in the opening so I went in excited, but I haven‘t been able to find a reason to care about these characters. Sadness.
