Portrait of a Murderer | Anne Meredith
post image

There‘s a delicious smell that has enveloped the kitchen as the roast bubbles away. With the Christmas tree lights all a glow, I‘ve been checking off items on my to do list. After a candlelight dinner, we‘ll curl up on the couch, to watch my Christmas favourite, Love Actually. Then a gift each, from under the Christmas tree, and a cheeky eggnog toast; wishes to all for a Merry Christmas.

Pickpick

November ended up being a great reading month. I had a few books carry over from October, which I finished in November. I also read one or two books that were quite large (900+ pages). I listed my top favorites, in the photo, which I would highly recommend.

Mrs Dalloway | Virginia Woolf

Pickpick

Earlier today, I settled in with an iced pistachio milk matcha (absolutely delicious!) and savoured the last few pages of Mrs. Dalloway. I've loved dipping in and out of this beautiful novel; highlighting sections, making notes in the margins, digesting each and every word. What was the last book that you were completely engrossed with?

I'm fully recharged after a delightful weekend. An outdoor picnic, a wander through the woods and yesterday a stop for a Sunday afternoon respite. We merrily munched away on scones and croissants and sipped on frothy lattes. After jotting down a few memories from the weekend, we idly people watched, then propped our feet up on the chair rails and tucked into our respective novels.

SilversReviews Ohhhh...I LOVED this book. 2y
catebutler @SilversReviews I did too! I still think about it constantly, since finishing it. Have you read anything else by Pilcher? 2y
SilversReviews @catebutler I haven't, but I am sure they are excellent. 2y
catebutler @SilversReviews I just finished, SEPTEMBER last month and enjoyed it. I didn‘t think it was as good as THE SHELL SEEKERS, but I definitely enjoy Pilcher‘s novels. I‘ve also read WINTER SOLSTICE, which is a great book for the winter months. 2y
SilversReviews @catebutler Oh yes....I remember SEPTEMBER, but I never got to it. Thanks for the reminders and comments. 2y

Elegance of the Hedgehog | Muriel Barbery
post image

“When tea becomes ritual, it takes its place at the heart of our ability to see greatness in small things. Where is beauty to be found? In great things that, like everything else, are doomed to die, or in small things that aspire to nothing, yet know how to set a jewel of infinity in a single moment?” ― Muriel Barbery, The Elegance of the Hedgehog

catebutler I've been contemplating this quote, and beautiful book ever since I finished it earlier this month. Rituals such as tea making or even the delightful motions of reading a book, are the simple joys in life. I've been attempting to embrace a slower movement this year, appreciate those small moments. One of my favourite slower rituals; a stop at a café, a pot of tea and an excellent read. 2y
HotCocoaReads I remember that quote from the book--there were parts of that book that were just beautiful! 2y
catebutler @HotCocoaReads I really loved how well written this was. There were parts and characters that I didn't care for, but overall it was an enjoyable and thought provoking read. 2y
