@Jadams89 here are your #trappedinaspookyhouse picks! I chose Joyland and Rebecca because I read them and loved them! I picked the other two on the bottom row because the covers are fun. And I picked the other in the top row because the cover is beautiful 🤷🏻‍♀️
@PuddleJumper thanks for organizing!!

PuddleJumper He's brave for letting cats sit on him without a shirt ... 4d
BarkingMadRead @PuddleJumper for real, though! 4d
Jadams89 Woohoo! I‘m excited to read these! Thanks @BarkingMadRead for picking the list, and @PuddleJumper for organizing! 4d

The premise of this story sounded promising and the writing was beautiful from the start but the story? Weird, boring, and did not keep my interest at all. I skimmed from the middle to end. I don‘t even know why I finished because the ending was just as terrible.

Ruthiella Oh, I hated this book so much after the first chapter. 😂 1w
Susanita I tried three times to read this book and never even got very far. 1w
Bec_lectic @Ruthiella same here!! At first I was like this may be good than after the first chapter it took a nose dive! I still can‘t believe I made it to the end. 6d
Bec_lectic @Susanita three times…you‘re out lol! Don‘t bother trying again. I still can‘t believed I bothered to skim it to the end. 6d

Mehso-so

Largely a coming-of-age novel, I found myself more drawn to Kiwi‘s stories vs Ava‘s narration, although the latter is written prettier. I found the dialogue, especially Kiwi‘s “friends” and coworkers to be fairly unbelievable, like what a Boomer thinks “the youth” is saying. But there‘s a turn here that really clarified the novel‘s intent, the temporary nature of innocence and moving forward when your body is not ready.

Pickpick

Well written and well researched, filled with facts and true stories, this historical fiction novel is steeped in a strong sense of time and place. I loved it! Palisades Amusement Park in New Jersey no longer exists, but it comes to life in rich detail in this story. The main character‘s pursuit of a daring career in an age where women were not encouraged to do such things deftly ties the book‘s many narratives together.

#ReadOrDonate for July

MemoirsForMe Are you from NJ? I remember going to Palisades Park when I was a kid. Great fun! 2mo
julieclair @Memoirs4Me Yes! I was born in Paterson, but grew up in Wyckoff, in Bergen County. I don‘t remember ever going to Palisades Park, but I can still sing the jingle… it was running through my head as I read this book, lol. 🎶 Palisades has the rides, Palisades has the fun, Come on over… 🎶 2mo
Aims42 I loved this book so much! It‘s one I like to re-read every now and then to revisit 😄 2mo

My July choice for #ReadOrDonate is Palisades Park, historical fiction about a legendary amusement park near where I grew up in New Jersey. What will everyone else be reading and/or donating?

AmyG I grew up near there, too…in Bergen County. 3mo
Amiable I read this one —I don‘t think I enjoyed it very much. I think I was disappointed because I liked this one so much: 3mo

julieclair @AmyG @Read4life I was born in Paterson, too! At the old Paterson General, which no longer exists. And I grew up in Bergen County, In Wyckoff. But our church was in Paterson - in the Totowa section. So I kind of grew up in both places, Wyckoff and Paterson. 3mo
Read4life @julieclair @AmyG I was born in St. Joseph‘s. I lived in Prospect Park which borders Paterson. 3mo
AmyG My parents almost bought a house in Wycoff. I grew up in Fair Lawn. Small world @julieclair @Read4life 3mo
julieclair @AmyG My dad's best friend & his family lived in Fair Lawn. He was the superintendent of schools there for many years. @Read4life I lived in Hawthorne, right next to Prospect Park, until I was 4. Small world indeed! Now I'm craving Texas weiners, lol! And Taylor ham. 😘 3mo
AmyG @Julieclair Too funny! 3mo
gossamerchild I'm still working on Cryptonomicon :-D In my defense, I haven't picked it up in a while. My plan is to get back to it this month. I WILL finish it! 3mo
julieclair @Amiable Moloka‘i is on my TBR, but I don‘t own a copy. It‘s interesting that you liked one so much more than the other. I‘m predisposed to like this one because of its link to my childhood. 😉 3mo
julieclair @gossamerchild You will finish it for sure. I have faith in you! 3mo
Read4life My grandparents lived in Hawthorne in the house my grandfather and great grandfather built. I spent many summer days in the Hawthorne pool!! 3mo

My mood is a roller coaster! 🎢

The current regime is a joke. But it‘s not the least bit funny. Except sometimes it is.

It‘s Spring! Time of renewal and new hope! Except…see above.

So…resist, grieve, carry on, and live another day.

Congratulations @dabbe on your achievement! You are one of the reasons I love Litsy!

ncsufoxes Same. I have to laugh or I‘ll cry all the time. I have an Autistic teen & my 2 other kids are neurodivergent, so I‘m exhausted & on high alert to this BS. Also the wife on an oncology research scientist that works as a govt contractor, so hoping daily that he doesn‘t have his funding pulled. And hoping that my oldest can be able to complete his degree in environmental sciences (between the backlash towards academia & the environment, it‘s 😵‍💫) 5mo

ncsufoxes @Susanita & add Dr. Amen in there too, who is a vaccine skeptic. I had a friend in San Diego brought her son to one of his clinics & she kept talking about all the supplements that he put her son on (real pseudo science stuff). He‘s added himself to this mess. Except the way he talks make people think he‘s knows what he‘s talking about but he‘s just as bad. 5mo

1. Puzzle entitled Good Hair. I thought it was beautiful!
2. See the tiny rocket on the left? Daughter sent this image from Cape Canaveral.
3. Anybody catch this viral image of two kids with Obama taking a walk in the background?
4. Wow, my incredible library now has pick up lockers RIGHT NEAR MY HOUSE! I can walk there.
5. Really happy this week to have Litsy in my life.
