alisiakae I read Ask Me About My Uterus for the invisible illness prompt! I have endo, so I love that there is finally a book that this frustrating disease, but I wish it had better editing, and felt a bit all over the place. 5y

shadowspeak17 @4thhouseontheleft I totally agree. I‘d never read anything about endo before, so I thought it was great that Norman wrote about it sharing her story. It really could have used some better editing though. It certainly wasn‘t a bad read as it is, but it could have been so much better. 5y

The Summer Book | Tove Jansson, Thomas Teal, Kathryn Davis

Well this was just beautiful! I was going to read it and pass it along, but it‘s very definitely staying on my shelves for a while.

Following the loss of her mother, a young girl spends her time on an island in the gulf of Finland, with her father and grandmother. Grandmother is wise, funny, acerbic and their relationship is a joy. Gorgeous!

Not sure if it‘s bad timing but I started out really enjoying this but got bored towards the end. The audio was great but I think I just wasn‘t really invested in Lillian or her story. I like the idea of it - wandering around the streets of NY on New Year‘s Eve meeting people and looking back over her life but it didn‘t hit the mark for me. #mcover70 #booked2018

Reviewsbylola It was really good!! The author wrote in his afterword that he immersed himself in 1854 Victorian London for two years in preparation for writing this book and it clearly showed. He went above and beyond by including a lot of details about the period. @vivastory (edited) 5y

This was a lovely, if uneven, read. Much of it was compelling and thoughtful, but a few points dragged, and a few minor characters were lackluster and unbelievable (I'm looking at you, Penny). But ultimately I did enjoy the read, and Lillian.

A Spool of Blue Thread | Anne Tyler

so-so

Anne Tyler‘s books always seem to hover between just okay and 👍 for me. It‘s a solid family saga, but I did not like the brief but jarring flashback to the past 2/3 of the way through the story.

I think what keeps pulling me back to her books is the taste of home they give me. Her settings always feel so familiar!

Caterina I haven't read any Anne Tyler, but I recently experienced a similar feeling with Raney, by Clyde Edgerton, read for a book club - I hated a lot about the book, but it felt so much like home! It got two stars/5 just for that! 5y

LazyDays I know what you mean! Her books feel like real raw feelings you would experience. She has a nice flow sometimes. At least that's how I felt with the tagged book. I don't re-read very often but I've read this one 3 times.

The Beginner's Goodbye

ravenlee My MIL gave me her favorite book years ago, The Accidental Tourist. After having it a year or two I finally read it (forced myself to finish it) - and I hated it. I‘ve never read another Tyler novel and I‘ve avoided all discussions of the book with my in-laws (all her sisters love the book, too, as well as the movie). Awkward! 5y
