It‘s been a long time since I read the books but this one made me want to dive back into them. There were things I didn‘t know about them or Tolkien until reading this book. It takes you into the mythology and history that inspired these stories, and gives some information about Tolkien himself. Loved it.
Today‘s #threelistthursday / #TLT assignment is three movie soundtracks you love. I don‘t have patience to fiddle with Pic Collage today, so here‘s a gratuitous picture of Eomer. 😍
My choices
1. The Return of the King (Howard Shore)
2. Gettysburg (Randy Edelman)
3. The Boys Are Back (Sigur Ros)
Honorable mention because it‘s not technically a soundtrack: Songs from District 12 (various) (Hunger Games)
Wow! I loved reading this ending- or beginning because there are still pages for Sam to write. 😭This was my favorite by far and I‘m so glad I finally got around to reading this trilogy. Gave me all the feels. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Oooh this second book was great! You can tell we are building up to something epic. I loved the Frodo, Sam and Gollum chapters the best. Even though I know how it ends, it still feels new. Although of course I am still picturing Elijah and Viggo! 😉 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I feel very mixed on this one. I enjoyed the action for sure, but I was not a fan of Frodo and Sam‘s chapters. I just never felt attached to them and disliked Gollum lol. I also felt like the last chapter, and the last line, were very anticlimactic and lacking emotional depth. I think I just missed the dwarves too much from the Hobbit. Overall, loved lotr, but I don‘t think this was my fav. Excited to start The Silmarillion next!
Finished the LotR trilogy, starting the Silmarillion & v excited for the critical theory I‘ve chosen to pair with it. Also mad about not having all the books I want to read on audiobook ho hum
This book was lovely— a lot of excellent moral readings BUT I wanted more nuance. Still, delightful. Looking for a close reading involving Tolkien‘s other works & specifically an analysis of “the scouring of the shire”

@ImperfectCJ I meant, with everything in me, to email you as soon as I got to school Monday to tell you my schedule. It has been a crazy week, finalizing grades, parent/teacher conferences that lasted late. Please forgive me and my forgetfulness.
