A fun romping romance, where the heroine attends a RenFest with her boyfriend and learns to joust!

mariaku21 I swear the cat stole a lot of scenes in this book 😂 5y
emilyhaldi This cover!! 💞 5y

Lassie Come Home | Eric Knight

#anglophileapril

(Day 14 - #HardDaysNight)

*Many of you may not remember Lassie because the books, movies & tv shows began in the 40s. By the time I was watching them as a child, they were already in syndication. But I couldn‘t get that phrase, “working like a dog” and Lassie out of my head, so...
Also, I‘m a day late, I know...but between migraine & the weather, I never got to post this until now. Sorry! 😐

Cinfhen Sorry about the migraine!!! I‘m part of the sufferers club 😭 5y
gradcat @Cinfhen Thanks for your thoughts here...I‘m so sorry you get them, too. Lately I seem to be getting them more often. Got new meds, but I‘m not sure they‘re any better than anything else I‘ve ever taken...oh well! Love your comments woman! 🥰 5y
Mdargusch Oh yes! One of my favorite shows. 💙 I hope you‘re feeling better! 👍🏼 (edited) 5y

Crazeedi @gradcat I'm so sorry to hear you've been suffering! My hubby's cluster headaches are back, he hasn't had for 3 years, now they come every day at almost the same time, last 45 min or so . They're horrible, hes going to go to dr. Thursday. 5y
Reviewsbylola Great connection. 5y
emilyhaldi My 5th grade teacher read this book aloud to us and I still remember the whole class sobbing!! 😂😭 5y
gradcat @emilyhaldi That is so cool! Seriously, I think those books would be great for young school kids. That your teacher read them to you guys just warms my old heart! ❤️ ♥️ 💜 5y
gradcat @Mdargusch Makes me feel good that somebody remembers those shows...I can still hear Lassie‘s whine in my head! 👍 🐶 💚 5y
gradcat @Reviewsbylola Thanks for saying so...I love to get you guys‘ comments....🥰 5y
gradcat @Crazeedi Hey! I got your note yesterday...you‘re so thoughtful, and I‘m a terrible pen-pal! I hope you & your husband have a lovely Easter 🐣... even if you two are alone (it‘ll still be nice!). I‘m sorry about his clusters...I have a friend for whom they occur seasonally, which makes me wonder if he hasn‘t started getting them again because of the wild & wacky weather....? Hope he gets some relief from the doctor. 😍❤️ 5y

Loving | Henry Green
post image

The #anglophileapril version of a #harddaysnight is best exemplified through the servants of an aristocratic British family, am I right?! This 1940‘s English novel focuses on the servants who are living their lives in contrast to the war... dealing with scandal within their own household and finding love amongst one another.

Reviewsbylola Good pick and wow, what a cover! 5y
BarbaraBB I‘m no fan of Green but this was an okay one I think. 5y
emilyhaldi Oh no, not a fan?! @BarbaraBB I haven‘t read anything by him... Now I'm nervous 😬 5y
BarbaraBB @emilyhaldi Don‘t be, it‘s just me. I like the blurbs of his books better than the stories themselves 😂 5y

Night Waking | Sarah Moss
post image

When you are a historian trying to work while being stuck on a small island with your two small children, a husband too focused on his own work, and suffering from insomnia, then every night might feel like a #HardDaysNight. That‘s the reality for Anna. Add the skeleton of a small child into the mix, and you have the recipe for a great book 👌

#AnglophileApril

Cinfhen Sounds intense!!! 5y
Reviewsbylola This sounds great! Except for the idea of being stuck on an island with two small children. 😆 5y
emilyhaldi I wanted to stack this but it‘s already stacked 😜 5y
Kalalalatja @Cinfhen it is intense but in a quiet way. I love Moss‘ description of motherhood and how you can love your kids, but at the same time wish them so far away @Reviewsbylola 😄 @emilyhaldi next step is reading it 😉 5y

Saint Mazie: A Novel | Jami Attenberg
post image

I read somewhere recently that "work is the furniture of novels," Attenberg puts the career of her eponymous character in center by focusing a significant amount of the narrative at her job. I thought Mazie was a great character & I loved reading about this era (Jazz Age NY). Thinking about it, I also more than likely had a soft spot for Mazie, because my first job was at a movie theater. Leaving work reeking of popcorn & soda stained shirt. ?

vivastory #HardDaysNight indeed. I have not yet read "Daisy Jones & the Six," but I would imagine this would appeal to fans of Reid's novel. Attenberg utilizes an oral history approach in her book & Mazie is a strong & memorable female character. #AnglophileApril @Mdargusch @Reviewsbylola @emilyhaldi @Cinfhen 5y
Rachel_nyc I loved Saint Mazie and thought she was a fantastic character. I think this book deserves a lot more attention than it seems to get. It only has about 5000 ratings in GR. (edited) 5y
megnews I really loved this book 5y

vivastory @Rachel_nyc I couldn't agree more, it deserves a lot more attention. I've read only one other Attenberg book, but I loved it as well 5y
Rachel_nyc @vivastory I haven‘t read anything else by her but that one is on my tbr. 5y
Mdargusch I‘m stacking! So many good recommendations for this book. Did you ever get sick of eating popcorn? 5y
vivastory @Mdargusch I did. It was years after I finished before I could have any popcorn. 😂 5y
Cinfhen I own Maize...need to bump it up my TBR @Rachel_nyc @megnews 5y
vivastory @Cinfhen That's been on my TBR for awhile now, going to move it up I think 5y
Cinfhen It‘s super short @vivastory but there was something so recognizable in those pages. Her characters felt all too real. 5y
emilyhaldi I‘ve loved all of Attenbergs novels except this one 😬 for some reason I found it a bit grating and repetitive and was dying for it to be over by the end!! However I DID love the setting of Jazz age NYC ❤️ 5y
Reviewsbylola I liked this one but I didn‘t love it. 5y
Suet624 Attenberg is one of my go to authors. 5y

I thought immediately of Audacity for #harddaysnight but then I read about Crowders other book- and it also sounds appropriate....
