Tom Lake: A Novel | Ann Patchett

Pickpick

This was a beautiful read and only cements what I already knew - Ann Patchett is one of my favorite writers. I found myself thinking more than once how lovely it would be to live in an orchard, or near one - but I think I‘d be disappointed to find that I wouldn‘t be living with the Nelson family 😂 #tbrtarot #flowersoncover

TheBookHippie Here‘s a tip -don‘t do it in northern Michigan 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫. 11mo
CBee @TheBookHippie hahaha exactly the setting of this book too 😂😂 11mo
AmyG Exactly! I wanted to be one of the daughters. 11mo

CBee @AmyG me too! This might be my favorite of hers - but I also loved The Dutch House so so much. 11mo
JamieArc @AmyG I wanted to be one of her daughters as well! 11mo
AmyG @CBee yes, The Dutch House comes in a close second for me. @JamieArc Ha, right? 11mo
TheBookHippie @CBee yes I know -it gives me hives just thinking about it. (edited) 11mo
Billypar I've only read Bel Canto and State of Wonder and I thought the two were so different that I wouldn't have even guessed the same author wrote them if I didn't know. But I liked them both for different reasons. 11mo
CBee @TheBookHippie oh my - stop thinking about it 🫢😂 11mo
CBee @Billypar I highly recommend The Dutch House as well! And of course Tom Lake 😊 I haven‘t read Bel Canto but loved State of Wonder. 11mo
peaKnit I‘ve listened to this audio twice, it‘s just so lovely. 11mo
Reggie ❤️❤️❤️Emily! I loved this book. 11mo
AmyG @CBee You haven‘t read Bel Canto? I thought you did. It‘s…ok. @Reggie 👊🏻❤️ 11mo
CBee @AmyG I know, it seems odd I haven‘t read it - I tried to a couple of times and I‘m not sure why it didn‘t stick. I sent it to you instead 😂😂 11mo
CBee @Reggie 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻♥️♥️♥️ 11mo
CBee @peaKnit I‘ve heard the audio is amazing! 11mo
AmyG @CBee Ha! I thought you read it before sending it to me. 🤣 11mo
CBee @AmyG nope 🫢🫢😂😂 11mo
peaKnit I literally use this audio book to lull me back to sleep, Meryl Streep‘s voice put my nervous system into neutral🩷. (edited) 11mo
CBee @peaKnit wow, that‘s great! 11mo
Amiable Loved this book! And @AmyG , I thought I was the only one who wasn‘t totally enamored with “Bel Canto.” 😄 11mo
CSeydel Just finished this one and I did enjoy it, maybe not as much as I hoped to, but it was beautifully written and emotionally evocative! But (spoilers ahead) I am dying to talk about that last chapter… 2d
CSeydel I was kind of shocked that she went to rehab and let Duke have sex with her! After all her seeming “growth”, she was still so smitten with him somehow. And that was part of my problem connecting with the book — I did not really get the appeal of Duke. Beyond the initial wow factor, he was clearly a self-absorbed user, and it made me sad that women like Lara and Pallas who had so much potential would just swoon over him like that. 2d
CBee @CSeydel it‘s always hard to read about that, I agree. You‘d think they‘d make better choices….. and yeah, first meeting him and I could spot “player” a mile away 😂 2d

Early last year a friend of mine was getting his mother‘s house ready to sell, and he recruited several friends to help him. There was a lot of stuff! Some went to Goodwill, some went to the dump, and some went home with his friends. I got some wrapping paper, a step stool, and this book about local gardens.

#WindsOfMarch Day 6: #FlowersOnCover. I like how the formidable artist Frida Kahlo has been humanized even more through Anholt‘s story: Frida‘s tenderness towards Mariana; how she told her confidences, even those that are not ordinarily told to a young girl. My review: https://wp.me/pDlzr-j59

The Lowland | Jhumpa Lahiri

I like the story as well as writing style of Lahiri. I love her vivid description & development of characters. But the story was too lengthy. I enjoyed the part set in India but the later half of the book was a tiresome read. Communist activity background was interesting. Overall it‘s in between pick & so-so read 3🌟/5🌟

It was read in 2020 as a part of #readingwithmaja #November prompt. #flowersoncover

Cinfhen Gorgeous edition/ my cover was certainly not that beautiful 4y

Little Women | Louisa May Alcott
post image

I was 7 the first time my grandmother read Little Women to me. Since that day I've read this book more than any other. It is where I return when the world robs me of my joy of reading, or when I need to be reminded of the unbreakable bond we can form with those we love. Because sometimes in life we just need a good book to make everything okay again.
