This book just feels physically good in my hands. It enlightened me so about what it means to be Deaf and the challenges navigating the hearing world. It was painful to read what she heard and what was actually spoken and what she had to do ALL THE TIME to figure it out. There was also lots of hope. All good things. Everyone should read this! #110 #BookSpinBingo #4 #BFC21 #2 #DisabilityReadathon #SuperSeptember #FallIntoReading

wanderinglynn Sounds like a great read! 4mo
EadieB @Allylu Interesting book 📚 I‘m glad I still have good hearing as it must be frustrating trying to figure out what people are saying! 4mo
Allylu @EadieB I‘m Deaf in one ear and I sometimes lose conversations, so I kind of get it. I‘m very afraid of losing my hearing in my other ear. BTW the author is also Deaf and didn‘t learn to sign until she was a teenager like the MC. She offers ways to help Deaf people when you encounter them. It‘s very good. 4mo

EadieB @Allylu My husband has bad hearing and I thought he was just tuning me out until he finally got hearing aids. 4mo
Allylu @EadieB My husband just got hearing aids, too! Now he has no excuse not to hear me! 4mo

A range of disabled writers share the variety of emotions, from fear to joy, humor to frustration, sparked by their circumstances.

An essay on living with Tourette‘s had me questioning medications not to improve health, but to make a patient palatable to society. ‘Intimacy Without Touch‘ had me in tears at the beauty in being disabled.

When disabled people express themselves, society often covers its ears. This collection is a chance to listen.

tenar Hi Litsy, I‘ve missed you! I‘m back from some of my own challenges with disability and am belatedly reviewing what I read for the #DisabilityReadathon in April. I hope you all have been as well as possible lately 🌼 8mo

Read 15 books in April! Still way ahead of where I used to be. Not as much fun as #MiddleGradeMarch, but a successful #YApril in my opinion. I read 9 YA books, finished 5 of the 6 prompts for Spring #BOOKED2021, 3 books for the #DisabilityReadathon and decided to continue reading books with disabled authors or MC each month, read 6 of the 7 prompts for #ThankfulAthon. Also added 15 books to my quest of reading 100 books this year! A good month!

Isn‘t that cover gorgeous? So, this is volume 2 in the Cursebreakers series by Brigid Kemmerer and returning to Emberfall seems like coming home. This one is focused on Gray and he has a problem with an unlikely set of companions to aid him. Lots of adventure, magic, treachery and romance. #100YEARS100BOOKS #56 #BookSpinBingo #23 #BFC21 #SERIES2021 #YApril #5 #DisabilityReadathon #ThankfulAthon #AwesomeApril

DONE!! This is such a great series! The characters are great, the computer stuff is great, the space maneuvers are great! Lots of action and the thing I love best is that it hooks you and you can‘t put it down. #100YEARS100BOOKS #BookSpinBingo #3 #BFC21 #SERIES2021 #YApril #DisabilityReadathon #AwesomeApril

#YApril book #1 This is the sequel to Dread Nation and it picks up where Jane and Katherine are running for their lives, as usual. The exciting action continues as they fight the Dead and move from place to place. That‘s all I can say without spoiling it. The audiobook doesn‘t disappoint! #100YEARS100BOOKS (halfway there!) #BookSpinBingo #2 #BFC21 #SERIES2021 #YApril #DISABILITYREADATHON #ThankfulAthon

During #MGMarch, Echo by Pam Munez Ryan affected me the most. It‘s a beautiful story. I love reading on the porch in the Spring! I am hosting #YApril and I will do any Readathons that @Andrew65 does, #BookSpinBingo, our local library‘s #100YEARS100BOOKS, #BFC21 and #BOOKED2021. I am looking at the #ThankfulAThon, possibly the #DisabilityReadathon, and the #Buzzwordathon. Those are on Twitter.

Andrew65 Always great to have you with us 😊 10mo

I‘m back from outer space just in time for April and the #DisabilityReadathon! The only requirement to join is to pick up an #OwnVoices book inclusive of disability during the next month.

Here‘s what I‘ve got checked out in anticipation:
About Us: Essays from the Disability Series of the NYT, Being Heumann, a memoir from Judith Heumann (who you may have seen in Netflix‘s Crip Camp), The Pretty One, and My Dyslexia, from a Pulitzer-winning poet.

tenar To find prompts, sprints, and recommendations, check out the readathon‘s Twitter here:

tenar @ishan0986 It has been a while, and I so appreciate you checking in! My reading groove got totally thrown off by other parts of my life, but I think I‘m starting to get back in the swing of things. I am still on page 600 of an 800 page U.K. LeGuin collection I started in January, so your diagnosis is correct! 😂 How are you enjoying your Kindle? 8mo
ishan0986 @tenar Happy to hear that you are getting your groove back. Buying the Kindle was the best decision this year. I do love books but the portability it offers really is amazing. 8mo
tenar @ishan0986 I‘m so glad you‘re loving it! It might be my favorite gadget. Thanks again for checking in on me! 8mo
ishan0986 @tenar Hey no need to thank me. This is one of the most amazing community and everyone here looks out of one another. I am just returning the favor. You people made this place special for me. This is the least I can do.😅🤗 8mo
tenar @ishan0986 You‘ve made me smile! This really is one of the nicest corners of the internet I‘ve ever come across. ☺️ Let‘s both try our best to give and receive that kindness. You‘re already doing it well! 8mo

Late post for Oct #DisabilityReadathon!

This feels like a debut both in that it‘s rather unpolished and it‘s very fresh. Julia is a Deaf graffiti artist struggling after being transferred to a mainstream school. She‘s an authentic teen character - brash, fiery, self-centered, with a chip on her shoulder - and the direct & unadorned writing style conveys her intense personality. A delight: artwork in the novel, including graffiti, is illustrated!

9 hours for #Deweys24HourReadathon! Now time for bed. 💤

But first, points. Today was also the last day of #Ghostathon20 & #FraterFestRAT. I also finished the tagged book and Disfigured by Amanda LeDuc for #DisabilityReadathon. It was fantastic! So so good. Definitely worthy of its own review when I‘m less tired. In total, +1,176 points.

Night, Littens! Hope your #readathon-ing is going well! ✨
