I like the central character in this cozy mystery series. Rei Shimura is a Japanese American with a fledgling antiques business in Japan. She‘s impulsive, stubborn, knowledgeable, scrupulous and fiercely independent. Aside from her Scottish lawyer boyfriend, the rest are pretty much one-note characters. The plot is improbable but gripping. The Kamakura setting holds extra interest since I visited there last year. I‘ll pick up the next #audiobook.

In Japan, Buddhism was more of an old age passion than a New Age one.

#Audiowalking by this cannabis shop today, I decided to take a photo. Pets and cannabis? 🧐

Texreader Does that mean the pets have to be over 18? In dog/cat years? 🧐 2w
Butterfinger 😂 2w
Lindy @Texreader 🤷‍♀️ 2w
julesG So I can bring my old sniffer dog, but the kids have to wait in the car? 😁 2w
Lindy @julesG Apparently. Although the signage looks like it was lettered by a child. 🙃 2w

#readingeurope2020 @squirrelbrain & other UK littens only (sorry!)

These are the books on my shelves that I have planned for this challenge - do we match on any and are any of them ones you need to get? I'd also be willing to send on after I've read it.

@BarbaraBB @Librarybelle

Librarybelle That‘s so nice of you! It looks like good titles to read for the challenge, too! 2mo
squirrelbrain Ha! This spreadsheet thing is catching! None match mine at the moment, but I can always change my mind 😁 Loved loved loved Hedgehog! Thanks for the card and bookmark too! 😘 2mo

This was just perfect and simple detective story to listen to! I've been getting to know the war time Helsinki better lately and this was set in the correct time period (few years after war). I know these characters already from my childhood and it was nice to get to know them in the book form as well. I'm used to seeing them in movies. 😊

Next up a Finnish classic. Old and pessimistic detective works on a murder case. This has been sitting on my shelf for ages and now I'm using my Bookbeat deal to go through books in audio form and decide wheter I'd like to keep them. I feel good about my plan to clean up some room for new finds. 📚 😊

I re-read this after many years and it still makes me feel hollow. Van Der Valk is bored. A young man is hired by a jewelry /antique boutique by chance. Something doesn‘t seem right so he goes to the police for advice and help. It‘s not a case, no overt crime,but Van Der Valk is curious as a cat, and begins to investigate on his own; all quite unofficial. It goes all wrong, and it is devastating.

My first Tana French book — I read somewhere that I should her her series in a specific order and decided to follow that. What I can say is: WOW! Amazing book! I‘m in love and will certainly read her other Murders Squad stories.
