#DynamicDs Day 7: I loved seeing how the two friends were able to tell each other about the things they love through their dancing hands. The Afterword provides information about Filipino Sign Language and how it is distinct from American Sign Language. People tend to assume homogeneity among the non-speaking, #differentlyabled communities, and this book shows how this is not the case. My review of this award-winning book: https://wp.me/pDlzr-r64

Sorry, Sorry, Sorry: The Case for Good Apologies | Marjorie Ingall, Susan McCarthy
post image

Dear Littens,

#BookedInTime and #WhatTheDickens I am struggling to catch up due to some new meds. I had hoped to post questions for both groups this weekend and I think I may have to switch to next weekend as I adjust to the medication. Apologies.

I fell into the hype with this. Mostly it‘s what I already knew: find common ground, make connections with people rather than talking “at” them, practice active listening.
I think I mistakenly assumed this would help me crawl out of my introvert shell, but no book is likely to work that miracle! Not a bad book, and definitely one many people should read to help to understand each other better. We need more of that these days.

The author mentions that shifting out of first person language also helps with calming one's nerves before public speaking.

...driver of saying no is something more permanent; it's an entrenched attitude. And rather than being external, or someone or something else that is preventing us from doing what we want, now the locus of control is more internal.

..."because" was probably some sort of external constraint.
