#RedRoseSeptember
These two books I read this past year both featured a #ChippyTea in them, so being a fish-and-chip lover, I had to make it for my book tour review recipe pairing. One with caper mayo & the other with mushy peas. 😋🐟🍟🍽

LeahBergen Yum!! 5y
arlenefinnigan Controversial opinion: mushy peas are disgusting. 5y
RamsFan1963 @arlenefinnigan No you're right, mushy peas are an abomination!! 5y

Well, it‘s not really a #ChippyTea ... it‘s more of a “lazy lunch at home” tea. 😆

Aimeesue Love the teacup and saucer! 😍 5y

rubyslippersreads Looks yummy! 5y
LeahBergen @Aimeesue Thanks! 😘 5y
LeahBergen @saresmoore A nice, strong Scottish Breakfast tea. 😄 5y
writerlibrarian Ditto the ☕️ so lovely 5y
Melissa_J Oh, I do so love that mug 🥰. I have an order coming in from Murchies next week. I love the Prince Charles and Golden Jubilee black tea blends, plus I have some Canadian Breakfast coming too. 5y
LeahBergen @writerlibrarian Thank you! 😘 5y
LeahBergen @Melissa_J I love Prince Charles (the tea 😉) and Golden Jubilee, too. I‘m not a big fan of Canadian Breakfast, though. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I am so about the plain old black teas right now (in my latest tea phase 😆😆). 5y
Melissa_J I totally understand! I‘ve given up on David‘s Tea because so much of their stuff doesn‘t actually seem like tea anymore. I‘m predominantly drinking plain old black teas myself at the moment, at least until the Canadian Breakfast arrives. I do like that hint of maple 🍁 5y
LeahBergen @Melissa_J Exactly! I was just thinking the same thing about David‘s Tea. I was looking at an email and thinking, “what ARE these flavours??”. I haven‘t ordered from them in ages! 5y
Cathythoughts And ofcorse you have tea cups & saucers with book designs on them 👍🏻♥️beautiful 5y
Amiable I am also a black tea fanatic, @LeahBergen 👍🏼👍🏼 5y
LeahBergen @Amiable It‘s the best! 😄 5y
Cinfhen Amazing convo @Melissa_J @LeahBergen I‘m so mad, I meant to buy David‘s Tea when I was in Canada and I totally forgot 🤬 5y
Cinfhen Also that teacup!!!!!! 5y
Melissa_J @Cinfhen have you had it before? What kinds of flavours do you like? I can send you some 😊 5y
LeahBergen @Cinfhen I‘ll send you some! Where did you go in Canada when you were on this side of the pond?? 5y
Cinfhen You guys are both awesome 😘 @LeahBergen @Melissa_J I‘ve only tried a few flavors but I‘m willing to try any and all ☺️I‘ve had cinnamon, peppermint and a fruity one and they were all fantastic. I was in Ontario, Toronto, Montreal and Quebec City. We had such a great time. 5y

#RedRoseSeptember #day6 #ChippyTea DI Vera Stanhope is extremely fond of a chippy tea, even though she‘s supposed to be on a restricted diet for her health. You‘ll often find her sitting on a bench with a paper cone of chips and maybe a piece of battered fish to go with them. I must give the challenge creator a shoutout, you almost had me stumped for this one!👏👏👏

arlenefinnigan Hehehehe. It is a bit niche, isn't it 😉 5y

#RedRoseSeptember Day 6: #ChippyTea reminded me of this novel reviewed by Fats: “If you‘re into tea, then you might like this book. I‘m not big on tea but, given the way that the story was “packaged,” I would be pouring myself a cup in no time. The layout of the story is what stood out for me. Each chapter begins with a tea-related quote, and I‘m a sucker for quotes.” Her full review: https://wp.me/pDlzr-7SW

arlenefinnigan Nice 😉 5y
LeahBergen I love that old tea ad! 5y

The prompt #chippytea makes me think of one of my favorite Booktubers Amy at From the Dusty Bookshelf, whose nickname from another booktuber (Erica at The Perks of Books) is “Chippy Cup”. What I love about Amy is she reads way outside the mainstream. From deep dives into Simone de Beauvoir‘s complete works to Lesbian pulp fiction...she marches to the beat of her own drummer! Totally unpretentious, she is a joy to listen to.

#RedroseSeptember

HardcoverHearts She is great! Good choice. 5y
Ruthiella @HardcoverHearts Thanks! I love how deep and broad her reading interests go! 5y
thebluestocking Thanks for the recommendation. I‘m always looking for booktubers who do more than read YA. 5y

Cinfhen Thanks for sharing a BookTuber!! That‘s a great idea 💡 we should highlight more BookTubers on Litsy!!! 5y
Ruthiella @thebluestocking OMG I will send you a list via goodreads. There are lots of lit-fic booktubers. 5y
Ruthiella @Cinfhen We actually have a few Littens who are already booktubers like Butterflyamore and HardcoverHearts😍 (edited) 5y
Cinfhen And @shawnmooney who goes by Shawn the Book Maniac 💕💕💕💕 5y
Ruthiella @Cinfhen Oh yes! I forgot about Shawn! He is not my friend in Litsy but I do watch his vlogs. 😀 5y
thebluestocking @Ruthiella Thank you! I follow a few, but “need” more!! 💙 5y

(Day 6 - #ChippyTea)

*I learn so much on Litsy, e.g., chippy tea—who knew—fish & chips for supper! Wow! I‘ve read way too many Dashiell Hammett, Raymond Chandler, & Mickey Spillane novels, because the first thing I think of when I hear the word chippy (and never mind the tea!) is a “cheap dame,” or a “promiscuous broad,” or a prostitute. Actual quote from the tagged book: “You oughta see the chippy he got up there.” Chippy ⬇️

gradcat ⬆️ (Cont.) tea is nicer somehow. ♥️ 5y
arlenefinnigan My. Puts a whole new slant on the song 😂 5y
Cinfhen #LiveAndLearn 😄it‘s happening ALL day on Litsy 🎉😜 5y

squirrelbrain I love this! Of course you wouldn‘t have heard of a chippy tea... with bread and butter of course as well! 5y
gradcat @arlenefinnigan I know, right? I was almost afraid of offending people by highlighting the sensibilities of the hard-boiled detective novelists of the first half of the 20th century...a bit dated, right? 🤣 5y
gradcat @squirrelbrain I‘d certainly heard of a “chippy,” and I know what “tea” means to you Brits, but I had never heard that phrase, nor the song, I‘m embarrassed to admit. But I really do like the phrase: it sums it all up in a kind of cutely diminutive way, if you get my drift...♥️ 5y
CarolynM Just to throw another curveball your way, a "chippie" is Australian slang for a carpenter. 5y
gradcat @CarolynM I did know that, but I‘ve never heard an American use it that way...can you believe that one little (slang) word has so many (slang) meanings? 🤣♥️ 5y

Admittedly, I‘m unfamiliar with the term #chippytea . But, as per usual, there‘s a Jane Austen related book for a prompt! Wilson offers tea related recipes, quotes, and history insights into all things tea in Austen‘s novels and in her world. It‘s a treat! #redroseseptember

Cinfhen I KNOW this is a MUST for @LeahBergen and @CrowCAH 5y
CrowCAH @Cinfhen aye, tis already part of the Jane Austen themed books on the shelf! 5y
arlenefinnigan Pretty cover! 5y
LeahBergen @Cinfhen I still need this one! I‘ve had it stacked for ages. 😄 5y

Growing up near Brighton, every Friday night we had a #Chippytea picked up by my dad on his way home from work, and eaten straight from the newspaper at the kitchen table, dowsed in lots of onion vinegar (the vinegar from the picked onion jar)😋🐟📰
So in honor of my dad, this is the first book in his favorite local detective series, still going strong at book #26! I‘ll read it #oneday, seeing as it‘s set where I‘m from.😊

Cathythoughts Brilliant post 👍🏻♥️ 5y
Ms_T Lots of nostalgia for you there! Great post 😃 5y
Cinfhen Awwww, I‘m missing home for you❤️I‘d love to visit you in Brighton and hang with your dad 😁 5y

EadieB @Cinfhen I‘ve read that one and getting ready to read book 2. 5y
KarenUK @cinfhen ..... now that would be lovely! 💕 5y
Cinfhen Wouldn‘t it !?!?!?! (edited) 5y
gradcat @KarenUK & @Cinfhen Great Post! I‘ve read the first three of them, but then I guess I got sidetracked. I can‘t believe there are 26!! I had no idea! ♥️ (edited) 5y
Crazeedi @Cinfhen @gradcat @EadieB @Andrew65 @TrishB @KarenUK great post, and I haven't read this series! 5y
TrishB Lovely post ❤️ I am up to date in this series @Cinfhen 🎉🎉 5y
Andrew65 Love this book series, one of my favourites. Unfortunately as currently suffering with gall bladder issues cannot have fish and chips and I so love them, and especially by the sea! 5y
Andrew65 @Crazeedi @gradcat @EadieB @TrishB @KarenUK @Cinfhen Unfortunately I am totally up to date on this series. 5y
EadieB @Andrew65 so the problem is your gall bladder? 5y
gradcat @Andrew65 Poor you! 5y
Andrew65 @EadieB It looks like that! Testing for biliary colic and gall stones! Which are both affecting the liver. Did second set of blood tests this week today, got another blood test next week. Waiting for ultra sound scan date and got endoscopy next Saturday so feeling a bit sorry for myself, not to mention the pain. 😔 5y
Andrew65 @gradcat Thanks, but possibly feeling too sorry for myself! At least when at work kept busy and keeps my mind off it. 5y
EadieB @Andrew65 So sorry to hear that you have to go through all of those tests etc. Not fun! Hope they solve your problem and you are feeling better soon! 5y
Andrew65 @EadieB Yes, fingers crossed, and thanks. Hope they can solve it quickly. Not the best thing on the first week of a school year! 5y
EadieB @Andrew65 Definitely not! Good that you have your deputy to help you. But bad that she is so new and probably needs your direction. 5y
Andrew65 @EadieB Thankfully so far just been missing for small bits of the day for tests. Just not as far on as I‘d like to be. Better now than last year. (edited) 5y
LeahBergen Yum!! I‘m craving a chippy tea now! 5y
Crazeedi @Andrew65 oh man that is no fun, I had that and needed up have gall bladder removed. Hope you find some answers 5y
Andrew65 @Crazeedi Thanks, definitely agree about being no fun! Just in waiting game for scan at moment. Apparently urgent only means likely to be some time in the next two weeks! 5y
gradcat @Andrew65 I hope you get seen to sooner rather than later...isn‘t that painful? 😣 5y
Andrew65 @gradcat Thanks. Yes! Although pain going up and down. Bigger problem is what can develop from it. 🤞 Eating a very bland diet which will hopefully be less painful. 5y
