Children plus dog explore the island in the cove where one of them lives and look for treasure.

Pure nostalgia with the book which is my earliest memory of owning a book. Read in memory of my uncle who gave it to me and who died last week.

Ruthiella Sorry to hear about your uncle. That is a lovely way to commemorate his memory. ❤️ 7h

Proud to share that I have a new reader in the house - Beatrice Lynn arrived on June 5 weighing 7 lbs, 13 oz. Am enamored with her and can‘t wait to introduce her to books! For now though, we‘re focused on basic survival of the newborn phase and I‘m on a reading hiatus 😅 Hoping to at least get through some audiobooks soon!

Pollyanna Grows Up | Eleanor Hodgman Porter
Pickpick

Well, Litsy won't let up upload an image today. Ah well. This sequel to Pollyanna is almost like two books in one. The first half takes place only about a year after the first book ended. P is able to walk again and is happily living with Aunt Polly & her husband. When Aunt P & Dr end up going abroad, P goes to stay with a woman in Boston, and we kind of get a repeat of book 1, with P spreading sunshine and happiness to all and sundry. However, ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) there is still a lot of charm here. Second half of the book opens several years later with P now a young woman. She has been abroad with Aunt P & Dr for most of that time (I honestly found it hard to believe that she hadn't come back to visit in all that time...) & Porter decided to make a plot decision that really annoys me every time (spoiler below). Here we get a little love story with everyone pairing off just right. If you enjoyed ⬇ 2d
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) the first book, you'll probably like the second as well.

@BarbaraJean - I think you mentioned something about being concerned about a potential weird age-gap romance but I can reassure you that that is not remotely an issue 😁
2d
TheAromaofBooks For some reason, Porter decides to kill off Dr. Chilton, leaving Aunt Polly a bitter widow! I think the idea is that we have to have Pollyanna in “reduced circumstances“ etc but honestly it makes me mad every time! At the end of the book, literally everyone else is happily paired off except freaking poor Aunt P who apparently only gets to have 2d

BarbaraJean Haha—I need to read this now! 2d
TheAromaofBooks @BarbaraJean - I think you would enjoy it!! I also really wanted to post the picture because I have a 1940s hardcover edition that still has the jacket cover - and it's impressive how many times Page managed to fit “Trademarked“ onto it 😂 I don't know how he ended up with the rights to Pollyanna/Glad books after Porter's death, but knowing him, it was something shyster-y! 19h

#doublespin done - another fun Famous Five book - so much food in this book 😆 also I know it‘s old but I found it hard to believe that anyone would let 4 children go off in a horse drawn caravan by themselves 🤯 Good fun - trying to teach Gary to #bemoretimmy

TheAromaofBooks I haven't read these, but I just finished rereading one of the Swallows & Amazons books (Coot Club) wherein two sets of parents let their children go off in a sailboat with a random stranger and the two children she had staying with her 😂 She had met the parents ONCE and they are just like “oh sure a multi-day sailing/camping adventure sounds like a great time for everyone“ soooo crazy to me! 2d

I love this fresh take on Osamu Tezuka's classic story! The art is so smooth and really doesn't divert too far from its inspiration source in terms of design. I can't wait for the sequel to release and hope this graphic novel gets the love it deserves ❤

I have had this on loop all day. 250 years later, and we're still fighting this. Thanks to all who went out there today to fight the good fight. I got blindsided with a hellacious cold and didn't want to spread my germs, but I've been there in spirit. #resist 💙✊🏻♥️

If you've never seen Schoolhouse Rock, especially this one, it's worth 3 minutes of your time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WvOZs3g3qIo

ChaoticMissAdventures I live in Portland Oregon so we are pretty learned in the protest ways. I was Bail Friend today. Meaning I hang out, all my friends have my number written on their arm and if they get arrested or sent to hospital I am in charge of organizing their release. We rotate Bail Friend duties. It has been a quiet day and all my people are done for the day so that feels good. 3d

This was a really lovely middlegrade read. Ellen is on a class trip to Barcelona. She's Jewish, she's autistic, & she has a great dad. But she feels like her best friend is pulling away from her. When they get put on different teams for a group project, she has to learn how to make new friends & set boundaries in her relationships. There's also a new classmate who uses they pronouns, who makes Ellen think outside the binary categories shes used to

Cute book and even cuter illustrations. This book is about a girl trying to find the fairies since she knows they are for real. I love the hidden fairies throughout the book and of course the rhymes as well.
