I‘ve always been a sucker for a “buddy road trip” comedy, so I quite enjoyed this one. I also liked that it was set up to be a potential romance but then took a hard left turn away from that and was mostly about friendship.

Book show post 3. I finally found a good edition of The Tin Woodman. And I was so excited that I accidentally grabbed The Land of Oz instead of The Magic of Oz which was on my list.

Someone points out to the Tin Woodman that maybe he should check on that woman that he loved that was the slave of the witch that cursed his axe to chop him up and he‘s like “Sure, whatevs.” On his quest he meets a Tin Soldier who fell for the SAME WOMAN and who was chopped up by his own sword.
Long story short, they find her but she‘s ALREADY MARRIED TO A MAN MADE OF A COMPOSITE OF THEIR BODY PARTS HELD TOGETHER BY “MEAT GLUE”!
To get over a deep ravine, the Scarecrow allows the long-necked Hip-po-gy-raf to EAT THE STRAW OUT OF HIS BODY so that it will lift him and his friends across. He is essentially a sentient sack for awhile until they can refill him.

Here‘s the Tin Woodman talking to his former head. Like the head when he was a meat person. Which is still fully sentient (and a little rude because he is not connected to a heart either) and sitting in a cupboard of Ku-Klip the tinsmith who built his tin body.

When every book is so packed full of oddity it‘s hard to name a winner, but Book 12 is shaping up to be the weirdest Oz book yet.
You see the TW started out as a woodcutter who fell in love with the Wicked Witch of the East‘s servant girl. The WWotE enchanted his axe to chop off his body parts, so he replaced everything he lost with tin, finally replacing his head.
But the head was kept by the tinsmith in a cupboard and it still works!
